I would like to add:

Do the deed same day you get it, when the disc lands in one's mailbox it's time to get dup'ing, or pass it along and re-enlist on the vine.

Holding a vine for a week (even a few days) really sucks, ...for everybody... the postal delivery should be the only limiting factor on vines!.

In a 10 or more vine, it seems like at least 4 seem to get the disc and "forget/loose/neglect" to pass it along in a timely manner, so the effect is we all get to wait an extra 4 weeks for the damn thing to get rolling our way.

Is there any way to get our Forum administrator to make this a sticky on the top of the Vines Forum?

(who is our admin anyway?)

This and the "Trades" forum need a sticky on how to participate so we don't have to keep bumping and re-posting these same rules/guidlines continually.

Just a suggestion to forestall some unintentional "stalls" - please at least write your screen name and/or a return address on the package or indicate the vine's name on the package - I've gotten some that did not indicate it was a vine, had no indicator as to whom it had come and the title on the disc was different (sometimes slightly) than the vine name - makes for confusion and slows things down - I've been adding the vine name to the disc sleeve and package if it isn't clear, when rec'd.

Thanks to all who keep this going! Everyone have a great day!

Here's something that's been bugging me - is there an agreed-upon 'etiquette' for checking vine status?

occaisionally I've sent PM's to the next person after the last "Out on MM/DD" update which begins: "Sorry to be a pest but have you received this from XXXXX?". Sometimes I get a reply, sometimes not (as we've all seen with the dead vines out there).

is there a right way?

I've usually received a response...some cordial, some not...I feel like if a vine was sent to someone like
9. ABBFAN1***In 4/15, out 4/17***
10. ABB FAN2 pm me please

And you send a note to #10 w/ no reply - there's your vine killer...Sometimes it gets to me and other times, I just let it roll...I mean you never know what's going on in someone else's life and these vines may be least of their concern...And calling someone out can sometimes get pretty nasty and that's always a drag...Politeness and consideration would dictate that you respond to the request for status (if its reasonable)...However, to me there are plenty of other offers and great folks on here who have picked me up on things. I mean if you really want the show, try emailing someone on the vine who's already got it and propose a trade?

I would certainly say that if you happen to spot a "pattern" with one particular person - it is great when you weed those folks out.

And of course, ALL of this is just my opinion...Hope it helps...

I still say we skip the people who do not send their address to the one above them.

I know I sound like a broken record, but....

And how about a Vine Killer thread, let's be realistic about this and out the people who shouldn't be playing.

thanks for posting this so it can be seen. i'm new on here and can't wait to do this vining in the proper way. i've read about the vine killers and my suggestion is to post a site with the killers names. thatway they can be weeded out. just a suggestion, because its not fair to the ones who participate correctly.

I'm bumping this up with a comment as well...
PM=Private Message
When you sign up for a vine - PLEASE PM THE PERSON ABOVE YOU. I have yet to have a positive experience with anyone who puts their e-mail address on here as the contact. We were all assigned a private message monicker when you signed up for the website - you can't post wihout one!

All you have to do is click on the pm name (to the left of the message) of the person you want to communicate with and the private message page opens for you to post your message to them.

It's also the 8th icon down under "Community" on the left of any page on this website. I have yet to have anyone who left their e-mail address respond back to any request...Also, I've noticed a couple of vines seem to stop at folks who left e-mail addresses.

Honestly, I can't see the reason for communicating with someone regarding a vine via e-mail. I mean, if you have access to e-mail on your computer - you should have access to this website and the private messages.

Look, if I'm out of line here - go ahead and post your response and I'll check them and read them here. But if you can't communicate by pm here on this website, you shouldn't be taking up a space on one of these vines.

Can't we get the Forum Administrator/Moderator to make this thread a sticky on top?

I have posted in a few of these ABB forums trying to get in touch of an administrator or moderator (every forum has at least one)

Who is our Administrator or Moderator?

I'm getting quite frustrated over these dying vines, I'm close to writing-off the whole activity soon.

It seems that Vines attract many lame-bo's, folks who won't read the VineRules/Etiquette and participate, where as B&P's seem to get the pro-active types of folks who have follow-through, it's a shame really as I've gotten some of my favorite stuff through Vines.

Wait until someone sticks you on a b&p. That really pissed me off. You have more $ invested in postage & supplies than you do with a vine. It's a trade-off really. B&P's require more supplies & prep work. Vines require more patience.

PLEASE DO NOT mark on the mailer the contents or the name of the vine!

If anything on the mailer, just put 'HTW'.

DO NOT TEMPT ANYBODY if the vine accidently gets delivered to the wrong maibox.

Please mark the discs or the envelope the discs come in, NOT the bubble mailer!

It may have been mentioned already but I worry when I see a new person sign up for 30-40 different things at once. Can create a backup which causes people to disappear even when they had good intentions originally.

Yes, that's a problem. What can you do? The person can be a legit viner just signing on a lot of shows? You can't really tell until several vines start stopping with the vinekiller.
The problem is hard to police because this is not a solely minded "vining" board with vine moderators capable of ousting vinekillers, checking ISP numbers, and banning members, etc.

Lately I've noticed a rash of vines being posted without the format in the heading.
Especially with the audio vines.

Please keep it simple BUT vital with info!

NAME - DATE - (optional: VENUE, CITY, COUNTRY) - FORMAT (Audio, FLAC, sHN)

I also hope that if you have these shows in lossless that you preferably vine them in this format over converting to and vining in audio?
