ATLoop has posted a couple great pieces on the ABB in the last 2 weeks.

This one weaves Jimmy Carter and Gregg and Brothers & Sisters back to Duane and then to Enlightened Rogues to the 1989 reunion and then the Hittin the Note album and then back to Laid Back. Love articles on the ABB that discuss the magic of multiple eras of the band:

Nicely written article by someone who was clearly touched deeply by the band.

Thanks for posting

Gregg says Hitting The Note is the band's best album since Eat A Peach. In several interviews Gregg said his favorite ABB studio album is Idlewild South which predates Eat A Peach.

Hitting the Note is a good album. I liked it when it came out but it's no Eat A Peach. Also when Gregg said this it was 2002 and Butch said the same. It was clearly a dig at Dickey Betts and a dismissal of Brothers and Sisters the best selling album the band ever had. As good as Hitting the Note is, it's not a Brothers and Sisters either. Nothing on Hitting the Note tops Jessica, Ramblin Man, Southbound, Jelly, Jelly.

I agree. Never was big on the Hittin The Note album. Seemed formulaic to me and by the time it came out I was into other things. A couple good songs on it, but I almost never play it.

Count me among those that really like Hittin The Note and think it has stood the test of time these past 16 years.

Glad this author focuses on Old Before My Time.....the studio version specifically is amazing. Down right haunting.

And artists often say "this is the best thing we've done" or "best since...." But Brothers & Sisters is an all-time classic album and it's no shame to not have topped that! They recorded a bunch of classic tracks after 1973 though (Old Before My Time, High Cost, Desdemona, Old Friend among them).

Hitting the Note to me isn't close to Eat A Peach or Brothers and Sisters but with the exception of the great High Falls I like Note better than Win, Lose or Draw.

Not sure about post 1990 albums. Seven Turns, Shades of Two Worlds and Where It All Begins are as good as Note to me.
