Happening quick - chips in credit cards, smart meters for utilities, and on and on - interested in hearing folks' thoughts. Watching a film right now where it is eyescans, fingerprints, implant chips, everything, and thinking screw that.

I believe it was the city of San Francisco that just voted to limit facial recognition technology in various parts of the city as the public felt it was too intrusive and violates peoples right to privacy. Some think this may lead to other municipalities following their lead. We shall see I suppose.

Agreed.

Scary stuff, indeed. It hit me several years ago when I was offered car insurance at a reduced rate if I allowed the insurer to install a device that would measure my braking patterns. Shock. My response was "That's a bit too Big Brother for me" & of course, the sales rep had zero idea what I meant.

I think we've pretty much surrendered to it. Technology wins again. I used to be surprised that almost every city in England & Scotland has continuous surveillance. It will come here under the guise of crime deterrence & investigation.

haha, yeah I dont know either. Its unavoidable really. But I am dragging my feet. Just "opted out" of an electric utility smart meter install - not that it makes much difference, there are 50 of them in a 200 yard radius on other residences, also a massive celltower 100 yards off, so RF emissions are blasting away, one little smartmeter means nothing.

It was a symbolic resistance for me, power company charging me a stiff fee to manually check my old analog meter, 35$ per reading. I did some reading up, didnt like the risks, fire, constant rapidfire RF pulse as opposed to sporadic bursts from cellphone etc, noise in audio circuits (big one for me), also the gear in place for upgrades to other possibly more invasive smart tech in future.

Mentioned it to my neighbor, who just gave me that are you crazy look, then started talking about the Dead playing in the Gorge.

So for me it is turnaround point, where I am actually paying to NOT have tech, rather than paying for upgrades. Here you get the upgrade free but get shanked for refusing the new tech.

https://www.smartcompany.com.au/people-human-resources/human-resources/fing erprints-fair-work-appeal/

Queensland-based sawmill Superior Wood, owned by the Finlayson Group, fired a casual factory hand in February last year after he refused to register his fingerprints for use in a new biometric scanner.

The worker filed for unfair dismissal, claiming the sawmillís attendance policy was unlawful because his fingerprints are sensitive information under privacy legislation and his employer could not compel him to provide them.

Dont know where it leads, but by god I kept that damn smart meter off the place. Paying for it too. Paying for the privilege of refusing a privilege. Go figure.

I donít think any of us realize how much data is harvested by our smartphones.

We know they listen to us, we know thatís connected to social media algorithms.

Set your smartphone on a table and have a conversation about oh, taking a trip to Jamaica. Discuss it a bit.

Wait about 15 minutes and open Facebook. Donít be surprised if thereís a sponsored link advertisement offering deals on a trip to Jamaica.

Personally, I think the electronics are following a primary time honored tradition...selling us more stuff.

I have actually reset my phone back to factory specs after my wife got on Facebook while riding down the road.
Showed her why a few minutes later when she checked my e-mail for a confirmation on a room she booked on my phone.
Dozens of requests of people wanting me to "friend" them on my non-existing Facebook account.
All got the "mark as spam and delete" treatment.
No Facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram, or other "social media" gets on my phone or computers. I don't even click on links to those sites.

I have spent too much time repairing computers infested with crap from "social media", and I don't understand why people would post where they are (vacation, trip) so crooks would know that it's time to break into their house.

And yes, I occasionally unplug the FireStick and pull the batteries out of the Alexa enabled remote in the bedroom

Hahaha, the pic in that article is hilarious. Damn strange news. What the hell did you type in the search to come up with that.

Also for sure creepy to get targeted ads for stuff you did not search or browse for. The phones are picking up trigger words. Have gotten some real weird stuff spin off from Whipping Post. Real weird.

I am not technophobic, Im a gearhead - and I dont care a damn about commercial privacy, I have always seen the matrix as a hostile mercenary entity where there are no rights.

My big concern is what the physical and mental effects are, if it is being weaponized, mind control, cellular tissue deterioration, Folks go on about Russians on Facebook - that is nothing compared to brainwave manipulation via RF strobe, targeted spikes in radiation, suggestion implanting, human programming..... anyone else notice folks acting strange the last ten years or so?

Lol, that should generate some fun ads!

It is actually a tech/IT/developer website that sometimes has articles that are weird, but have some relationship with tech/IT/coding.
Did you read the comments sections?
A few years ago there was an article about a guy who asked his girlfriend why she had a headphone wire going inside her skirt. When she described what it was attached to, and where the attachment was inserted, and what
the attachment did when the phone rang or music with a lot of bass came through.
Well, the IT angle came through that article when he left the room (dinner at his place), got on a computer and sent her an email with a link to a continuous low C bass note.
When she opened the email, he described it as similar to the When Harry Met Sally restaurant scene, but with food scattered across the floor and ceiling, and a lot more favorable ending for him.

Well if they wanted that I guess the response to them would have to be 'let me sit on your face' and give them a sample of you know what!

"Because the Lush is no ordinary vibrator: a couple can download the company's Body Chat app and then one partner Ė the one without the sex toy inserted Ė can send intensity commands over the internet to the other person's phone, which then transmits that message via Bluetooth to the device."

I thought it had blue tooth so someone could warn her if her husband was coming home early! Sending inensity commands over the internet? What is wrong with these people?

Kids rummage through Moms' bedside table.
What's this?
I don know. Push that blue button.
(Mom giggling in kitchen)
Might be a remote.
Push Channel 5.
(Mom humming and gripping breakfast bar.)
Try 7.
(A distant thud is heard in the kitchen.)
Let's do 8.
(Distinct scraping along the hallway floor is heard.)
I wonder if it works on the satellite dish. Put in 27.
((The noise in the hallway turn into a constant staccato of feet drumming on the floor.)
Mom. Whatcha doing on the floor? Can we go outside and play?
(YYYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSS bbuutttt tttuurrnn thththththeeeeee dddaamn thththththiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggg oooooffffffffff.)
But we were going to see if we could get channel 380!!
