Jam fans in south Florida have likely heard of Music Jam Productions. They have put on 1-2 Jam-related shows in West Boca since 2016. Last Winter Warren Haynes stepped in after the headliner, Dr. John, had to bail due to health issues. Last Fall Warren again stepped in after Dickey Betts & co moved their show to Pompano (which was eventually canceled due to Dickey's health issues).

Well, this month's show, which was set to feature Jaimoe and Oteil, has silently been canceled with no notice. From what I've seen, the promoter has been pretty terrible. Literally begging people to buy tickets and passive aggressively shaming people who don't. Dickey got a lot of flack for bailing on this guy's event, but I couldn't really blame him.

Thus far, I haven't seen any notice of a refund or a formal announcement (I didn't buy tickets). Event pages and websites have been removed. Any one buy tickets and hear anything? The ticket page has this passive aggressive statement regarding the event.

quote:
FLORIDA JAZZ AND BLUES JAM 2019 Saturday January 26, 2019 is no longer happening because there was not enough support from Florida in the ticket sales.

I have a house in Boca so I am familiar with this promoter. When Dickey was rescheduled the promoter was prompt in getting back to me with a refund. He also had some issues in the past with the weather playing havoc and it was necessary to change the dates of shows.

Having said that the lineup for the show that was cancelled was very weak. It was Jaimoe, Sonny Landreth, and Taz Niesenhauer. I am leaving out somebody else. Just a poor lineup and unfortunately poorly planned out. It is a shame as Govt Mule headlined last year and it was a fun festival in a small mellow venue.

Yeah, that was Dickey's Spring date, which was then rescheduled to the Fall before Dickey switched his show to Pompano.

Live for Live Music is on the case:

Florida Jazz And Blues Jam Cancels 2019 Event With Jaimoe, Oteil, Taz, & More
Kendall Deflin | Wednesday, January 9th, 2019

The Florida Jazz and Blues Jam will not be returning to Sunset Cove Amphitheatre in Boca Raton, FL on January 26th, 2019, as the event has officially been cancelled. Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Oteil Burbridge, Larry Carlton Quintet, Sonny Landreth, and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer were all scheduled to perform, with the latest artist announcement being made a mere seven days ago.

Today, the event ticketing link was mysteriously updated to say: “FLORIDA JAZZ AND BLUES JAM 2019 Saturday January 26, 2019 is no longer happening because there was not enough support from Florida in the ticket sales.” A bold explanation, indeed, as the Florida promoter blames his faithful Florida market for the event’s failure. With only 115 people RSVP’d to the official Facebook event, perhaps it’s true that South Floridians have lost their “support” for the promoter.

Produced by Music Jam Productions, the event’s website and social media pages have all been scrubbed of the 2019 event information, yet no official statement has been provided to the public regarding previously purchased tickets. However, the Eventbrite page clearly states “no refunds” for the event’s policy.

Strangely, this is not the first time that Music Jam Productions has been forced to pull the plug on one of their events. The fact that they’ve continued to plan events for this long is surprising to local jam fans who have continuously been screwed over by cancellations, lineup changes, sound issues, and general disorganization.

In 2018 alone, Florida Jazz and Blues Jam was forced to replace legendary NOLA headliner Dr. John with Gov’t Mule a mere two days before the January event took place. The spring iteration of Florida Jam, another event produced by Music Jam Productions, was forced to cancel due to weather, and was re-scheduled five months later to mid-October. Unfortunately, the event’s headliner Dickey Betts pulled out and was once again replaced by Gov’t Mule, citing “drama” and unprofessionalism from the original Allman Brothers Band guitarist’s camp. The Devon Allman Project + Duane Betts were also absent from the re-scheduled event, despite having a Florida gig down the road at the Funky Biscuit a few days prior.

We’ll update you with official cancellation information and statements as they become available.

The promoter responded in his typical, dramatic, finger-pointing way. I guess it's our fault, we didn't deserve him. I think this guy needs a social media intern.

This show is canceled. Despite the incredible line up and a significant buzz talk about this show, once again South Florida failed to show up and support this show. The Betts cancel in 2018 was a big hit to take financially, and also probably I am sure on my reputation. Let me be clear, on every show I have done in the past 6 years everyone has made money but Music Jam Productions. I did not post this until I emailed and initiated total refunds to those that DID support this show.I let the supporters know first of course as they are the ones who count and deserve the respect at the same time of the artists. Due to paypal it will take 7 to 10 days for the credit to show up in the purchasers' account. Worthy to note, I have also had major disagreements with how the venue I typically use handles business. I won't share facts on that, as I remain professional, but its been an increasing issue for me with just cause. I am a business man and know when it is time to move on. Don't listen to gossipers who have posted that we are not offering refunds. That is 100% false information and I asked her to remove that post and to this moment she has not. Why? And confirmation of the sad state of affairs of the live music scene down here when you all pile up on a false post complaining such as hers about refunds not being issued when you didn't even buy a ticket, not much has changed since I played the circuits down here in the 80s. DRAMA. So...on you go....pay the high fees to Live Nation and AEG, I gave this a good run and may take it up elsewhere...the positive comments I received over the years far outweigh the negativity, those who dwell in drama and hate. My shows were never intended for those types anyway. Carry on. A very special thank you to those that have supported and attended the shows over the years.
