I just this on FB, Absolutely wonderful news. I've heard he sounds great and is in a good place in general. God bless him, I wonder when that DVD is coming out.

As far as the article, I love the less of a client and more of a very dear and treasured friend sentiment.

Virtually same info...

Keep in mind, this Dan Rather interview was filmed months ago before his health issues.

Nothing but class, dignity, genius, and kindness. He said, ďI make music by trying to relate to people who donít make music.Ē Amazing.

I never heard the story of him punching out a drug dealer onto Bob Dylanís lap while he slept. Hilarious!

And a baby eating cigarette butts? Poor child, lol.

Well there ya have it Dickey Betts as Boyton said. Heís always been the same .. I have a lump in my throat itís emotioally overwhelming to know he suffered so much from a fall .
The updates are few but I think heís recovering .
That was the best interview .... Iíve been a DB fan 45 46 yrs now heís the best . The Allman Brothers band ..... Dickey Betts , Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks , Jai Johnny , Gregg Allman, and Im Duane Allman .
There hasnít been a band that effected me so much as ABB ....I feel blessed that I get it .Dickey spoke about his brothers in the band with such deep respect and love ❤️ amazing
I heard all those stories and even more and DB always tells the truth itís his life ....very kool
I look forward to the repeats
Its times like this I miss our friend Elizabeth elagura . She had some great stories , photos and Willie dedicated his book to her . I hope sheís dancing with the band in heaven

As for the firing - he graciously stated he didnít want to tarnish the bandís legacy or any deceased members by inserting his negative memories of it - a perfect answer. Without mentioning names, he said the band viewed him as an obstacle in the way of their success. He did mention something about a difference of opinion on side businesses, and he became the odd man out. Dan Rather also hinted that Dickey was making too much money and there wasnít enough being spread around.

Reading between the lines, sounds like the band had new ideas they wanted to explore, and Dickey fought against them and wanted to shut them down. Combine that with the extra income, it became a logical business decision to part ways, especially with Warren and Derek skyrocketing at the time, and the future best players on the planet ready to take over. Itís sad whenever a marriage has to end.

This was probably my biggest takeaway from the interview. He doesnít have a single negative thought about any of them, despite a very traumatic experience of being kicked out of your second family after 40 years. What a great person.

Or at least if he does, heís smart enough not to say it publicly. He may still own a percentage of the ABB pie which might still generate some income, so why shoot the golden goose. In the longrun, despite his mercurial reputation, Dickey is probably a smarter and more astute businessman than all of them put together. He earned it the hard way.

Dickey gets royalties every time Ramblin' Man, Blue Sky and Jessica are played on the radio. Think about it, that's got to be some significant regular income.

Think Dickey certainly enjoyed his time with Dan Rather. Did come across as a true gentleman in his thoughts about his musical brothers. Also seemed to have some pretty good perspective on personal issues like letting his anger get out of control. Of course everyone wanted to hear his take on the band breakup. On this Rather never pushed or even mentioned to Dickey about how alcoholism, abusive behavior and the request for rehabilitation also figured in. Would have liked to have heard him address what has had to be such a major issue in his life.

Dickey seemed to be speaking from his heart and remained consistent in his response about the firing.

It was real nice to hear his effusive praise for Chuck. I know there was time constraints but I would have liked to have heard a bit about the various guitar players that stepped in next to him over the years.

actually I think Dan mentioned at least 3 times that he had a lot of questions and knew he couldnít get to it all. You absolutely got the impression that Dan wanted to get more but no time .
Iíve watched Dan a few times with these interviews and I truly came away from this with the feeling that Dan was really diggin Dickey Betts . How could you not ....it just makes you want more .....DB you need to write book about your life and music your fans would love that .

I always find it amusing in ABB documentaries or interviews when they show footage from the Arista era of the early 80s, when the band was at an absolute nadir. Last nights interview featured an abundance of clips from that truly wretched period. Wish there was some way to erase that footage from the vault.

It would have been interesting to hear that. I got the feeling that Dan was also a fan and didn't want to upset his guest.

Really like the interview and Dickey's take on things, his love and respect for Duane, Gregg, and the band in general. He did a good job of not pointing fingers, beyond mentioning something about "one of the drummers"

Enjoyed it. Danís questions werent all that interesting, though. Almost Famous, the story behind Liz Reed, & his song Jessica are all topics that have been covered by so many people interviewing Dickey in the past. I dont think we will ever get a book from Dickey. He keeps things pretty close to the vest. A book about him growing up, learning to play, some happy, funny road stories would be great. I dont need a tell-all about drugs and the break up of the band, just a little more insight into what makes the guy tick. Heís an interesting cat.

One of the funniest Dickey stories Iíve heard is the one that inspired ďPony BoyĒ about his uncle (or some elder family member) who had a penchant for imbibing the night away at his favorite watering hole. Apparently after getting busted a few times for intoxicated driving on the way home he decided to solve the problem for good by driving his horse to the bar instead of the car. Classic!!

We all know Dickey.
So imagine that guy backstage telling Dickey he's gonna take him outside?
I bet Ronnie Van Zandt got a lot of that too.
Dickey defended himself well.
He could still drop a guy like that today right into Bob Dylan's lap.
Keep praying for good health for Dickey.
He's one tough guy and he's battling for sure after this year.
