You may have heard Alex Jones was banned from several media sites, including Facebook and You Tube.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/facebook-apple-youtube-and-spotif y-ban-infowars-alex-jones/ar-BBLz2Da?OCID=ansmsnnews11

I know that many on this site do not like him, but there are questions regarding freedom of speech, beliefs etc. After watching the Zuckerberg hearings in D. C. when Mark Zuckerberg was questioned about Cambridge Analytica etc. I had a better understanding of what his vision for Facebook was. He wants it to be a happy, wholesome community. He does not want it to be used for tirades or political causes that rile people up, rally them to participate in destructive acts.

All those things come under fundamental rights in our Constitution, freedom of speech, the right to assemble, the right to protest, etc. etc. Facebook has a right to state what it's standards and rules are and if people do not want to adhere to them, they need a different forum.

I do think that You Tube should reverse it's decision because You Tube has always stood out as a place for any and all information. People need a censorship free You Tube.

Alex can get a little intense, but with all that is going on in the world today, it would be difficult not to have divergent opinions sometimes. I guess the old phrase "the revolution will not be televised" is prophetic. It won't be televised because the 6 companies that own and control the media will not allow people to know what is going on.

Internet? The Dept of Defense developed a kill switch to take it down globally if or when they feel they need to. They developed it, they have the keys to the kingdom.

As for Alex, he needs to learn about VPN's. Virtual Private Networks, or get hosted by a friendly country.

So the topic for debate is, should some forms of media allow free speech in the press and media?

He’s a nut but censorship isn’t the answer.

He is a loon but censorship is a dangerous path to go down.
Ignore him.

It is not censorship. These sites have terms of use and they feel that Jones violated them. These sites have removed content and users from their sites in the past. He is free to start his own site and spew his garbage.

Those site selectively remove content.
That is censorship.

As these are privately owned web sites, they can allow or remove whatever content they wish. Anything on a private site is not protected by the First Amendment. Anyone may start their own site put whatever they want on it.

Let me ask you something. Let’s just look at Facebook for a minute. They have terms and conditions that anyone who has an account there agrees to. So Facebook deletes things like porn and threatening posts from users. Ids that ok with you? Or are you ok with threats of physical harm? What if it was against Trump? Or you, for that matter?

True. Same as it is censorship when threads here on Whipping Post go over the top and the webmaster deletes them. Privately hosted social sites state their terms and if folks break the rules the webmasters are free to selectively censor, and ban whomever they wish.

This is not a 1st Amendment issue.

It's ironic that anyone on the right would cry censorship, since they were the ones who supported doing away with net neutrality. Without net neutrality Internet service providers are free to block absolutely anything they want, for any reason. Anybody who supported the Republicans when they voted to repeal net neutrality have zero right to complain abut censorship on the Internet - ever!

Mule sounds liberal - he is saying private companies shouldn’t be able to make their own policies and decisions. What’s next, you want the government to force them to post content on their site that they don’t want? Are you part of Antifa?

Well, since you gonna go and get all legal with it, I agree. Censorship is a bit strong. I guess I just don’t like it.

Remember when the Democrats supported free speech?

Hard-left Dems demand Silicon Valley giants implement more censorship.

Sounds like the Senator’s “survival of our democracy depends on it” is his way of saying survival of the Democrat party depends on it.

Keeping their followers ignorant is essential.

An informed electorate is one of the Dems greatest fears.

President Trump was referring to the people that the left looks down on.
Why is it you are incapable of understanding simple direct statements?

After a couple of people explain what terms of use means and why it is not censorship, mule posts this. So, is mule dumb or is just trolling? It has to be one or the other, he doesn't really want to have a discussion.

So Mule, I have a question for you.

- Do you think Roland is unfairly censoring you when you abandon your sociopathic droning monotone and occasionally freak out and show your true colors, in all your toxic glory?

It has happened several times, when your radiator blows and you spew off into patriotic frenzy. It is always hilarious, but I can see why Roland cuts you off.

Especially your classic "Kiss my godfearing guntoting flagwaving American Patriot @ss". That was pure comedy gold, unforgettable.

Do you feel it was unfair to have that deleted?

I cannot speak for Rowland, but he might have just wanted to avoid a big scene cyber confrontation.

I see nothing wrong with what you quoted other than telling another poster to kiss someone's ass is not the best behavior, but there is nothing wrong with having a belief in God, or being in support of the second amendment right to bear arms, and being a patriot was never something objectionable either.

Alex Jone$ can always run a subscription website where he establishes his own TOS and continue to say what he wants.

If he's such a harbinger of truth and information, he should do well.

Is this where we wait for Kellyanne to talk about "alternative truth"?

Alex Jones spreads lies for profit, and he got called on it, certainly in the case of Sandy Hook. The US government has made no attempt to censor him, but a private company has no obligation to host him. Anyone who misses his brand of entertainment can get the same quality junk from reading the bathroom wall.

Yep, that's what Honest Don does best - performs, entertains, and incites. Those are his skills; governing, leading, and speaking the truth - not so much.

The corrupt liberal media is the enemy of the people when they choose to be the corrupt liberal media.

They can choose to follow the journalistic responsibilities and ethics of reporting the news to the people and holding the government accountable or, as they do now, push a far left-wing biased opinion-based reporting.
