Yep, Tiggers are four games under .500 and only a game and a half out of first. Nuts, huh?

The Giants are also 1/2 game under 500 and only 3 games out. I don't expect this to last unless Madbum comes back strong and Cueto heals quickly.

Three observations
1 - The Dodgers may have the worst team/dollar in the history of MLB
2 - Daniel Murphy is sorely missed in Washington. They keep pitching around Harper who is either going to kill himself or someone else
3- I think Didi Gregorious has a significant injury. Too long/too deep for just a slump

KC, Balt & ChiSox have same records
ChiSox 8.5 outta 1st place in Cntrl
Orioles 17 out in East -- yes an imbalance there
you never know -- they won their wknd series against lowly TX -- now, a quick sweep of low-lier Orioles, & Just Like That -- ChiSox, yep CHI-Sox -- would be in the hunt

SO WHAT -- w/JBJ, Sandy & Christian not having-yet hit, & w/Dustin back this week (hopefully)...
NY hasn't yet seen best of BoSox --
Carson blamed fatigue brought on by misuse for his return to rehab (espn article) -- refrain from comment Stephen/I don't walk in his shoes etc., & Let's Go Sawx, they love us down there (TB), "Sox-Nation" fan base solid there, time to go on a streak

Really disappointed to see Hanley DFA'd -- didn't see that coming at all -- Hanley was great & hopefully will continue to be -- let's go Sox

Yeah that surprised me. If I understand it, the Sux are still on the hook for the rest of his contract unless someone else picks him up (doubtful).

Not quite as bad as giving Sandoval all that $$$ but still...

Boy oh boy are the local papers ripping Wellington Castillo a new one. I mean, they are the worst team in baseball so I'm not sure that it really matters.

I do get a chuckle out of Rick Renteria's take on things though. He can spin any bad situation in a good light.

If I cared for the White Sux I would be really pissed with them.

I am starting to get concerned about the Flubs. They should be way over .500 and they obviously are not. I think they even took three out of four against Milwaukee last month.

Hopefully they stay at the bottom where the Cubs are supposed to be! Brew Crew are in a nice spot, they've been putting up some big numbers against decent teams in May. (And for the record, they were 1-7 against the Flubs in April but that might as well have been a lifetime ago.)

Just think if was the other way around. Or even 4 -4. Flubs would REALLY be out of it.

So my Tiggers get to face Ohtani tonight. I was supposed to go back to Detroit yesterday but I didn't go. I have to go there there Friday. Maybe he will DH and I can catch a game.

Yes, Anthony Rizzo cheated - too bad it took MLB a day or 2 to figure it out.....

I can't believe it was such big news. A guy stuck his foot out a tad? Judgement call I guess. That isn't cheating. Might call him out but he didn't cheat.

A runner ran almost six feet out of the baseline last week trying to avoid a tag at second base. Did he cheat?

And they didn't call it nor did they review that one.

Cheating may have been the wrong word, but he obviously went out of his way to clip the catcher - which is against the "new" rule that is supposed to protect catchers......

"A good team"???
AZ has **** the bed, but Clay pitches tonite -- so far so good (0-1/no discomfort) -- Clay could become a savior for skidding D-backs

they won their series against lowly Miami -- now a series w/also-lowly Cincy, & yep --
...PADS about to climb out of cellar in anemic NL west

SOME UNEASE THO -- it's the same lame injury so often seen -- "tightness in side, after a practice swing" -- but when it's Mookie -- not good -- get back quick Mookie Betts, our top player --
the left knee is bothersome, unfortunately -- But It's A Long seaon & should settle down for a long-enough period of time for DUSTIN PEDROIA to play extensively/effectively
Hanley, you are not forgotten -- now it's Houston

A career Cardinal -- managed them to the 1967-68 WS, bearing us in '67 -- Red Schoendienst as manager, Stan Musial as their GM, and Lou Brock & Curt Flood at the top of the order -- even Carl couldn't overcome them

Bartolo, 45, tied Juan Marichal on the wins list with 243 -- was thinking Juan reached 243 in less innings, but the opposite is true -- Bartolo 3,300 IP, Juan 3,500

With the bottom of the order not hitting (Sandy is starting to) and no Mookie or Dustin, we won't be able to keep it up too much longer -- let's go Sox, a big game from Steven W Tues

The Braves do still have a team -- it's 90 years ago and they got both Rogers Hornsby and George Sisler -- the town was set on its ear & the Sox in second for a summer (1928) with these two charter HOFers on the same squad -- I remember it well

Pitchers used to finish what they started. Marichal had 471 games to 550 for Colon.

Maricahl once beat Spahn 1-0 in 16 innings. When Alvin Dark wanted to remove him from the game Juan stated "I'm not coming out as long as that f**ng old man is still pitching."

Best pitcher never to win the Cy Young. Someone (Koufax; Drysdale: Gibson: Seaver) always had a season just a little bit better

Along with Koufax only pitcher with three 25 win seasons in the modern era

I think Bob Welch won 27 in 1990.

Given the way they are playing the game now, who knows if anyone could win 20. And MLB wonders why games takes so long. Fat guy waddling out of the dugout to change pitchers five or six times a game.

I think Phil Neikro won AND lost over 20 in the same season. That is something that will never happen again.

Same Steve "Lefty" Carlton, who won 27 of Phils' 59 wins in 1972 -- 346 IP, players now would sue if they had to pitch that many innings
yep, LAD used eight pitchers in a 9 inning (8.5) game Wed -- Pirates used six, game took 3:48 to play -- I would be more bored than into it at a game like that, even w/the 11-9 final score
Berrios, however, had a CG 6-hitter ystrdy (for MN) -- they've become such an overregulated politically incorrect rarity

I have always found this amazing. How many games would they have lost without him? If he could have pitched 500 innings would he have won 40? I would have pitched him every third day. Okay, probably not but you get the idea.

Ya think long time Cardinal fans think "what if?"

Too bad he kind of tarnished his legacy by sticking around too long. Even when I was a teen I thought he needed to call it a day.

Not the nicest guy in the world but a great pitcher.

Left only stayed around 2-3 years after it was over. Not horrible.

And yeah; he was a beast in 72. Perhaps the best slider ever. And I guess his trade was the Yin to the Yan when they got Lou Brock.

You have to figure he learned a few things from Gibson - who was perhaps the greatest beast of all time.

As Gibson said to Tim McCarver when Tim had the balls to come out to tell Gibson how to pitch
"The only thing you know about good pitching is that you can't hit it."
