Madison Bumgarner gave up something like 10 hits and 7 runs in two inning the other day. I think my Giants are in trouble

Well, Opening Day is here. I like the Yankees and the Dodgers. And I think the Cubs are kind of being sold short.

Well, my two teams (Braves and Astros) are out of the gate 1-6. Great start, guys. I'm just glad the season is underway, and the best news is our cable package at work includes the MLB Nework!

Brewers took it to the Cards and Yelich continues his tear. Hope they keep it up.

Balt's pitcher was sailing along w/a no hitter -- 8 K's, 1BB thru 6 1/3
& gets pulled
the manager was worried about him getting hurt, article said
so he pulls him, & the other team comes back & almost wins
this is where MLB has gone down the toilet for me -- but also realize am a minority of one on this & know that concern for the safety, health, physical and mental well-being of the players at any cost, is accepted as more important than a no-hitter or winning a game

I read an article that said the decision to pull the guy wasn't the manager's, it was the front office but it didn't name names. And he only threw 82 pitches.

This isn't THAT unique. I recall it happening a handful of times. I think the Dodgers (I believe it was them) used four pitchers once to throw a no hitter.

Yeah it could be anything, espn account said manager wanted to take no chances -- yes probably off field pressure from upstairs too
...to allow no chance for the kid to shine & to show all he had to be babied outta the game

as a fan I come from the era when giving a pitcher the hook for no reason, but esPEcially when he had a no-no going & was at the top of his game, was not only never, Ever EVER considered, but would've been considered a fixed game -- letting the other team back in it by removing your top pitcher for a bunch of ham n eggers when he had a no hitter going
because he might get hurt....
it's lunacy, but times change

Let's Go Sox!! it'll be as fun a year as the last several have been (well less the Bobby Valentine year )

Ups to Dustin Pedroia, he's willing to take the bus trips & non 5 star hotels, to try to get back to the majors -- he's starting out in Single-A Greenville --
athletes like Dustin, Isaiah Thomas -- diminutive warriors who still think they can return to past form, and who's to say they won't -- those pint-sized packages of athletic dynamite have left it all out there

was real nice the long loud round of applause for IT when Denver was in town last week -- JumboTron played his all world highlights & IT knew he had the love....

fun season ahead, your Cubs/Tigers etc are poised, so are Sox despite slow start

You are absolutely correct about times changing. Look at how starters are only expected to throw five or six innings. I'll bet old timers like Marichal, Bob Gibson, Lolich, etc think it's crazy today. It used to be an insult to get pulled.

There was a game in the early 60's where a young Marichal and an Old Spahn each went 16 innings (Mays homered for the only run) At some point in time the Giant's manager went to pull Juan who uttered: "I'm not coming out of the game as long as that f**ng old man is still pitching."

Crazy thing no is because of the speed of the fastballs and the torque of the sliders they get injured more anyway now. I think muscles have been strengthened through legal (exercise) and illegal (steroids; PED) to the point where the tendons and ligaments cant handle it

Well my Tiggers are off to a surprisingly good start even though they went three straight games and only scored like two runs.

The Flubs are a different story. They are inventing new ways to lose. They made six, yes SIX errors the other day. No pun intended, but it is a comedy of errors.

Speaking of the Cyclones, Coney Island is one of the BEST places to catch a game. I used to spend the day a the beach, head over to Ruby's or ChaCha's or maybe the Freak Bar for a beer or 2 (or 3). Grab a dog at Nathan's and sit back to watch baseball at the beach while the rides whiz by.

Of course April 8 is one of if-not the best known of all dates
1974, & the Babe's record of 714, thought to be invincible for so long, is broken by Hank Aaron's HR off All Downing
then a year later, & Frank Robinson HRs in his first AB as player-manager of the Cleveland Indians, April 8, 1975

but gosh didn't know this one -- w/no cup, a shot like that could seriously have been fatal
April 8, 1997
In a 14-8 Mariners victory over the Indians at the Kingdome, M's pitcher Josias Manzanillo, who doesn't wear a protective cup, is hit the groin by a Manny Ramirez 107 mph line drive. Now a firm believer in the use of protective gear, the 29 year-old reliever will be put on the 15-day disabled list for surgery needed to repair a tear in his testicles.

Good one -- yep waterfront property owners can have their differences alright
great headline about current NYY injury woes:
"HURTY DOZEN:" Yanks add Sanchez to crowded IL

New one btw -- Clevinger of Cleveland -- sidelined w/a "strain of the TERES MAJOR"
teres major, anyone? one recalls Hanley's injury last year, a problem w/"the right trap muscle"

Let's go Sox

So I was going through some of my baseball collection and I have a page of old ticket stubs in one of my books. These are all Tigers ones. In 1953 it cost $1.75. They raised the price to $2.00 in 1961 & 1962. Box seats went up to $6.00 in 1979.

They used to be called "The Detroit Baseball Club".

I love these stories -- always have -- MLB pitchers have the brains & agility of a yard goat

"Matt Snell, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, suffered a fractured fourth toe on his right foot when he got out of the shower and then attempted to move a large granite item."
Matt Speaks
"It's like a three-piece set and this pole that comes up like 2, 3 feet. Went to move it, I lifted it up and it wasn't glued to the pole and the pole came crushing down."

Who will be the next hero to cut his finger on his pitching hand w/a knife in a kitchen accident
Howabout NYY -- another player has come up lame, so they've gone from the Hurty Dozen to .....
the weeny 13ny mayb?

Finally, help is on the way for Cubbies, w/comebacking Carlos Zambrano
"Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano said he thinks that he can overcome his age, his reputation and a long major league absence to make it back to the big leagues.
''Why not?'' Zambrano said Monday from Marlins Park, where the Cubs are playing this week. ''Bartolo [Colon] pitched until he was 45. I'm 37.''

Zambrano is going to play for the Chicago Dogs, an independent league team. I went to a game last year. It is in Rosemont, not far from O'Hare. Stephen you'll remember their manager from last year, Butch Hobson. He was the only guy on the field I had heard of. Pretty good third baseman in his day.

The day I went they had one dollar beer and hot dogs. Free shuttle to the park. Nice afternoon. Cheap entertainment.

Watching the Yankees this spring surprises me. All those injuries and they are still just two back of the Rays. Who knows what they will look like when they get healthy.

Anyone taking the position that the injured Yanks and fumbling Bosox would be where they are know would have broken the bank in Vegas

I dunno. As Lou Gramm used to sing with Foreigner, "It's a long, long way from home".

There's only been one month in the books so far. I must say I am impressed with Tampa though.

Thx the update on Butch -- wasn't too popular when he 1st joined in '77 as he was replacing beloved popular Rico Petrocelli -- had a good year tho w/30 HR, although he committed a ton of errors -- Rafael Devers is on pace, 9 so far this season after his 9th-inning coughup opened the floodgates for ChiSox last night

Clay is back!! he's signed up w/Tor -- is on his 1st stint on the DL w/shoulder inflammation after 24 IP this season -- a no-hitter in his 2nd big league start, who can forget that

Stephen became fastest ever to 1,500 Ks -- always figured his strikeout-to-IP ratio was real high -- due to hit DL (it's IL now, best to them) later this month

And whoa Noah! A CG?? w/a HR??? in a 1-0 win???? It's gotta be bull, but no, both Ed Kranepool and Daryl Strawberry would've been impressed

better late than never -- knew I was forgetting something, sure sign of a softening squash etc etc...
Who wlse but PABLO could do something that hasn't been done in 114 years -- stole 3rd like a speedster, hit one over the fence like Willie Mays -- & needed just 10 pitches, incl a game ending double play, in hurling like Cy Young himself -- watta guy
yeah he heard "won't you please come to Boston" which he did -- but Pablo left his heart in SF
Let's Go Sox, watta team
