That's because we don't have a president....we don't have a leader....talk about a ship without a rudder or a sail....yesterdays events and the response shows me that he really couldn't care less....that is his base

I'm not for this form of protest, but I guess it's not as bad as colluding with a foreign nation to influence an American election. Disrespect of American isn't as bad as selling out America.

Hey, after pondering Your sensible reply 2112, I would say that in normal times and a rational environment, I would certainly agree with You, these are FAR from normal times, so what would be the appropriate way of letting his feelings be know, maybe write to his Congressmen? Complain to the State Reps?..........Peace.........joe

It is perfectly and honorably American to exercise your right to express your opinion in any way that is not harmful to others. We should be filled with pride and honor to see that man sitting on that bench. That is because of our intelligence, toughness and daring, and bravery, not just our military, but our courage as a nation, left, right, middle, whatever color or creed, that man on the bench is US.

Look how many people sat during the national anthem at Woodstock. The greatest rendition of our national anthem ever performed, for and by a free people in a free environment.

It is decidedly un-American to deny or infringe upon another's right to demonstrate, and the day we don't see a man sitting on a bench is the day we will be a nation of cowards and prisoners.

While I agree that it is "honorably American to exercise your right to express your opinion in any way that is not harmful to others."...I personally abhor any form of protest that disrespects the Flag or those who died in support of all it stands for. These clowns are Millionaires, you want someone to take your views seriously? Take a stand by putting your money where your heart is, help those in need, bring attention to the things you deem important by donating your efforts and your time.

What a fool.

In what way does sitting during the anthem disrespect the flag or what it stands for, if what the flag stands for is the right to sit during the national anthem? It would seem to be the opposite, that it is a disrespect to not exercise the freedom that so much blood has been spilled to protect.

Catch 22.

Excellent links pops and Hemp, in contrast a guy I work with here in the good old Hoosier State, mailed Trump $100 during the campaign, hard to fathom, in a 3 block radius of my house, there are at least 2 houses where the occupants are using the confederate flag as window curtains, I think with our current "president" in charge, feeding these paranoid, racist, dillusional obsessions, I think civil war is as real a possibility as world war???.......Peace......joe

That's actually an appropriate use of the Confederate flag, to block the light.

Civil war in the traditional sense would be problematic to conduct, as the battle lines can't be drawn geographically - the new Mason Dixon line is in our minds at this point, the interior landscape of the American psyche.

The new revolution has to be worked out in our hearts, individuals have to figure it out for themselves. Victory or defeat will be apparent in the karma we reap in our lives. If we find anger hatred, superstition, fear, and ignorance reflected on ourselves we will know we have lost.

So you and BrerRabbit don't think others can display a flag as part of their protest?

Do you actually know what the Confederate flag looks like? Most folks don't.

Really don't know how you come up with that steamer.

I don't give a flying f*ck what anyone does with any flag. That includes your precious Confederate flag. The beauty of the American flag to me is it symbolizes a country where I got to grow up not being compelled to worship ANY flag. So, it is a flag to end all flags, in my sight. A good thing.

The Flag Desecration Rag

They tried to pass an amendment in the U.S. Congress
Seems these thugs have some grievance to redress
They said we all must pledge allegiance, 'cause that is what they need
We may not desecrate their symbol of hypocrisy and greed

But the flag is just a rag
The flag is just a rag
Just a worn-out, tired, dirty, blood-soaked rag

Pledge allegiance to the symbol, well how about the deed
Allegiance to democracy or blind authority
It's a flag of war from L.A. to Vietnam
It desecrates itself each time the Air Force drops a bomb

But the flag is just a rag
The flag is just a rag
Just a worn-out, tired, dirty, blood-soaked rag

Like they say in Mexico, "Yankee Go Home"
Uncle Sam and his club thinks the world's there to roam
And to make the point well they do the traditional thing
Light a match and let freedom ring

But the flag is just a rag
The flag is just a rag
Just a worn-out, tired, dirty, blood-soaked rag

So burn it, stomp it, tear it up or at least hang it upside down
Tie it to your foot and drag it on the ground
Let everybody know how many lives are gone
'Cause of idiots who said, "My country right or wrong"

But the flag is just a rag
The flag is just a rag
Just a worn-out, tired, dirty, blood-soaked rag

The only time a flag is a rag is when you no longer believe in it, defend it, or follow it.

I asked the question, do you know what the Confederate flag actually is, how many official versions there were, or have you followed the Hollywood story about the Confederate Naval Battle Flag?

Fact that they got the flag image wrong here, he was referring to the original white flag design aside:

So you are a white supremacist.

At least one of you is honest, the rest of you guys just hang around hinting at it, gets really irritating.

Yep, they got the flag wrong, like many other people do.
Don't know who you are referring to as being a white supremacist.
I'm a Georgian who traces his roots back to New Jersey.

Refers to anyone who identifies with the Confederate flag. Its original meaning was as stated in the quote above by the designer of the flag, William Thompson. If you love that flag for some other reason, you don't know your history.

You are absolutely wrong on that part. The quote is what the designer believes, not others. There are a lot of families down here that have original flags held onto because of the family history associated with it. Not because of what the designer thought. Also, Thompson didn't design the Confederate flag, he was an editor of the Savannah Morning News and with William Ross Postell (a blockade runner) wrote an editorial about the need for "a white mans' flag". He didn't like the First National Flag, (four versions of that one) and proposed a solid white flag.
That didn't go over too good with the military. The St. Andrews cross was added into the upper left corner.
That was named the "Stainless banner. There were two versions of that (Second National) flag.
The "Blood Stained Banner" had the same design as the Second National except a red stripe was added to the right end of the flag. There were two variations of that flag.
The Army of Northern Virginia used a square banner with the St. Andrews cross when the two similar flags of the Union and Confederacy were used in battle. Forrests Cavalry used a similar one during maneuvers.
Most units used the state and unit flags rather than the national colors.

Did I tell you I'm a history buff, with special interest in the War of 1860-1865 and later wars.
PS. My grandfather was 10 years old when it ended.

I have all 171 volumes of the "official records" if you wish to discuss specific items. Note: what is referred to as the "official records" has the title of:
"The War Of Rebellion: A Compilation Of The Official Records Of The Union And Confederate Armies"
published by the Government Printing Office
Washington, D.C.

They were printed between 1880 and 1901

See, now you've done it, gone and introduced history and facts to a group who were just happy throwing the label "racist" around because that is what the current leftist media has made politically correct. Let's re-write history, tear down memorials and shout down all who think otherwise. What a joke and these same people still do not fully grasp that it was this mentality that put Trump in the White House in the first place.

quote:

Are you kidding?...Are we not all Americans?....Is it so much to ask to stand in respect for those who have given their lives for that Flag?.....Evidently. Freedom?...Of course, you are free to do whatever you please in this Republic, but there are consequences for every action. But what hypocrisy to sit down while the anthem plays and the Flag waves; pick your battles wisely, exercise your "rights" daily....Would this include flipping off a Veteran?...I mean, it is your "right".....

Kaepernick and Lynch?......I will gladly help pay for a one way plane ticket to the country of their choice
