I don't think any band has had a run of latter day replacement leads like Haynes, Pearson, Trucks, Herring. Great eye for talent Dickey and Gregg. That run is bananas. But what other bands have had to replace lead guitar multiple times and hit home runs every time like that? I know you guys will have some.

The Stones replaced Brian Jones with Mick Taylor, who is amazing. On their records, they got guest spots from Ry Cooder and then later Wayne Perkins that were clutch.

Ronnie Wood had a tough job trying to replace Mick Taylor, but the Stones have been pleased with him.

Ha Ha. Good one. Years ago I ran into an acquaintance at a Crowes show. He had a local blues band in Detroit. I asked him what he was doing there. He said his bass player left him and was playing for the Crowes. He said "Hey, it's a better gig".

Doing a flow chart on them could take a lot of work.

Going to see Rich Robinson & Marc Ford in a few months.

Ha! Ha! Lee your friend would've been talking about Eddie Harsch. And his band I'm assuming would've been the Detroit Cobras? As the huge fan of the Black Crowes as I think y'all know I am ... Let me take a shot at the BC guitar slot. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Rich Robinson, Jeff Cease - Marc Ford - Auldley Freed - Paul Stacy - Marc Ford - Luther Dickinson - Jackie Green.
There maybe a space between MF and Luther that I'm forgetting about without checking. Not as impressive as the Yardbirds or John Mayall but all unique players, all still playing and making new music.

I've always wondered - has Warren Haynes ever been recruited to play in the Black Crowes?

Close - Marc Ford was back in the Crowes before being replaced by Paul Stacy (when Marc abruptly quit on the eve of a tour), so Robinson-Cease-Ford-Freed-Ford-Stacy-Dickinson-Green.

Also Mick Taylor, who played for Bob in 1983-1984 to excellent effect.

Good one !

One of the Zappa albums with Steve Vai, in the credits Vai is listed as - Stunt Guitar - if my memory is right.

Chris -

You are probably right about Eddie. I thought it was bass, maybe keys. Anyway, I racked my brain and it was Robert Noll and the Blues Mission. Been a long time. He told me some cool stories about Albert Collins. If you ever get to Detroit for some reason and he is playing, check him out. He is REALLY good.
