I'm interviewing Chris Robinson live on stage in NYC on 5/16. Will sell out.
Get your tickets: http://bit.ly/2pdAcle

This is part of the great BackStory series for which I interviewed Warren a couple of years ago when Ashes & Dust came out. We will discuss the new Chris Robinson Brotherhood album and much more. Will finish with an intimate acoustic performance by Chris and Neal Casal. I'm excited. Spread the word.

Al, I hope you are able to get Chris to open up and express his thoughts. I understand he is notoriously shy and introverted, not inclined to say much, fearful of the public eye.

Oh wait, it's not April Fools Day.

Can't be there Alan, but I have to ask will the subject of the Black Crowes come up? I'm sure I'm not the only fan who felt slighted that they/he couldn't have found a way for at the very least a farewell tour. I can respect him wanting to play guitar. Do his own thing ... However, because of the fact of the way the Black Crowes ended, he will never receive a nickle more from me for his fake hippy dippy BS.

Well, I'm not going to ask questions in that vein, but it will be discussed. Everyone has the right to spend their money and time as they see fit. I just think you should follow the music you love, so if you find it hippy dippy BS, by all means, stay away. Some people signed off the ABB after the Dickey parting and they sure missed a lot of great music.

Apples and oranges Alan. I loved the music of the Black Crowes. They had replaced the ABB as my favorite band mainly by releasing new and quality music. And ... they gave the illusion they cared about the fans ... that it was really and truely about the music and the "brotherhood." I bought the first CRB cds and attended several shows. I think Neal Casal is great. (I believe I caught him when he was in Blackfoot.) However, when Rich's allegations which were confirmed by Steve Gorman that Chris wouldn't do a 25th anniversary BC tour unless he got all the money, then I had to wash my hands of his phony ass. Too much LSD and too much time in La La Land isn't good for a Southern boy. Just ask Gregg. Anyway you do what you've got to do, but CR is where he is because of the Black Crowes and their fans who he sold out. You know it. I know it. And he ought to know it.

Charles,

I'm not really disagreeing with you, actually. It's just that the truth is always more complicated than it seems.

Over the years, I have had professional disputed with Rich, Chris and the Black Crowes organization. Arguments over magazine covers, who will be in a story, deals made and reneged on (and not by me). I couldn't listen tot he BC for a while. Eventually I realized I like the music. In the end, that wins out. These type of things are a hazard of my job, and the BC are far from alone in this regard. Yet in all my personal dealings with both Rich and Chris, they've been really nice, thoughtful, easy to talk to.

The comparison I meant to make was more along the lines of this: fans wanted Dickey to return for final shows. it would have been emotionally satisfying for them (us), but the idea overlooked the emotional and realistic needs of those involved. I have no idea what went down with the BC, but it was clearly an emotionally complex and volatile situation.

Have seen Crowes back years ago, a couple times, and listened to new stuff on youtube. I like the mojo and feel of what he does, but I have trouble getting into his singing ability and style. But he puts a good flavor on it.....

Music is very personal to us all, but unless you're directly involved with the band, why take any band's personal conflicts (especially familial bands) or short comings to heart yourself? Seems like a waste of energy to me.

Ask him why he is such an a hole, and why he wanted to turn the BC into a
GD wanna be band. He is the last person I would ever want to interview. Good Luck!

Dang, tough crowd, but the internet is where our id shouts things our mouths probably wouldn't. I'll just say I hope it goes well and I'll get the word to my NYC-area peeps.

I listened to a a podcast recently that had Rich on it and he mentioned something about the direction of the BC going/leaning towards GD style music on the last couple of releases. Did not sound to keen on it.

A Rich or Magpie Salute interview would be cool!!

Tried for Guitar world and it didn't work out. Really wanted to do a nice story.

(Edited to remove more specifics, which I thought better of.)

Hey jzfunk the new Guitar Player has Rich and Marc on the cover and a pretty decent interview. No shade thrown on Chris either.

I've seen CRB 3 times in person and heard several recordings and I feel like the keys are always really high in the mix and almost the lead instrument. If it was more of an organ then I wouldn't mind as much, but I feel they are going for a more Brent Mydland late 80's era Dead sound. If Chris grew up on 80's Dead, then that makes more sense. I think Neal isn't used to his fullest potential in this band, and I say that as a fan of the band.

Adam is no Eddie on the keys.

I'd want to know what the first record he bought was and who turned him on to the stuff he plays on his Jam On show.

Please ask him why he and his brother loved to copy the Rolling Stones' music or riffs, and imitate Mick and Keith's personal lives, and why he's such an **** that Warren Haynes wrote the song Mr. High and mighty about him.

Thank you.
