The 12 piece TTB really seem to be in sync with each other creatively and are enjoying what they are doing. Between every tour, what the heck.....even during every tour they take giant leaps forward with their music. Their songs grow, morph, transcend as soon as they take them on the road. Really seems like a group effort of kindred spirits. I loved their show last year but friday a week ago they seem to have time travelled to a whole other galaxy when i saw them in Amsterdam. Songs like "I Want More" just blow you away. It's like the studio version of "Whipping Post" compared to the LAFE version. So it looks like all the changes were for the better and indeed it hurts sometimes when it happens but everybody that left the TTB (or didn't join them when the DTB and STB were disbanded) has changed for the better and found great new other bands / projects.

Find me a place where Derek and/or Susan "throws shade" at ANY player that has been in either of their groups.

I think maybe people are taking that phrase a little too seriously. They would never bash somebody a la ABB vs. Dickey but they did manage to make it clear they think the band is better now because some of the former horn players didn't like to practice much and that they think they're better with a more propulsive player like Tim than they were with Oteil. It has a positive spin about the band improving but there's a little bit of actual criticism there sometimes. Which doesn't mean these people hate each other - I'm sure they don't. Although I never got the sense Derek and Oteil's relationship in the ABB was the same after Oteil left the TTB, to be honest.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting this quote. It really seems to sum up something about Derek's approach to TTB....

"we didnít want to hire a bunch of sideman. Iíve always loved the stories of the early Allmans that floated around and how my Dad felt about that music -how it sounded like it was family. This is family. You want everyone to be invested and really believe in what weíre doing. Itís not just a gig. There have been times early on where weíve said to people, if this is just a gig to you, well, thereís the door. Thereís other **** you can do. Thatís not what weíre doing here."

It's not just about having the best musicians with the best chops. It's about getting that "sum is more than the parts" synergy between everyone involved. If everybody isn't "all in" then you just aren't going to get that X factor.

It says a lot about Derek and Susan that they set their heights that high. So far, the results seem to validate their approach.

It's kinda funny. The only 2 members of TTB I've ever met aren't even in the band anymore. Oteil and Maurice.

I believe the issue with Maurice is that he was inclined to speak of the pompatuse of love.

Didn't they film a beacon show in '14? Thought there was a release coming for that?
