Just re-watched the Gregg Allman tribute last night ( Jack Pearson once again just blows me away!)

Seems to me like a natural thing for Dickey to receive the same honor... I would think Guitar players would line up for a crack at some of those classic instrumentals and tunes... I think the set list would be enormous.

I think that is a great idea redhouse 1969. Dickey is such a great player, and certainly had his own brilliant tone.
If they had a tribute obviously guys like jack, warren, derek and duane (Dickeys son) would want to be invited there. Other guitar players that I wish to be there are Frank hannon (Tesla and Dickeys son-in law) , vince gill. Who would you want to see and what songs played?

Great idea, and when the Gregg tribute show was released I thought exactly the same thing. No matter what has gone down personality-wise, Dickey's massive and influential history is deserving of a tribute show every bit as much as Gregg was.

I bet there are plenty of great players who would jump at the chance. Willie Nelson immediately comes to mind. I'd like to see more country guys like maybe Chris Stapleton. I'll bet many guitarists, both country and rock, would come forward and say how much they were influenced by Dickey.

And wouldn't that be a great way to mend the fence if Gregg agreed to do it?

As much as I'd like to see it, it likely would never happen on the scale of the Gregg show. Dickey doesn't have the name value that Gregg has for the marketing of the show's release.

I would love to see this happen but I'm not sure if it will?

Is there a way we can make this tribute happen?

Ween should not be invited, they're a joke band and their being there would bring the whole thing down.

Love to see Billy Joe Shaver do "ponyboy"

I think guys like Lee Roy Parnell, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban would be interesting... Willie for sure.

I also think guys like Jason Isbell, Jimmy Herring would be great as well...

A Carlos Santana/Derek Trucks -Liz Reed could be epic as well.

Everybody would love to play at a Dickey Tribute. The man is walking musical history. The roads he paved on the fretboard are constantly driven down by guitarists everywhere. Mr Betts deserves it, but doubtful it'll happen. I would love it and would make every attempt at being there.

God Bless Forrest Richard Betts.

Well, just thinking, I can't imagine any guitar player that was invited saying no to a chance to pay tribute to Dickey, I just think it could be an immense jam! Even if it was in an intimate 2,500 seat theatre, I would think the guitar players would get together for the joy of it??? I know it's all too simple and I am missing something here, somebody help me out..........Peace.......joe

How did the Gregg tribute get going? Was it a promoter's idea, or Don Was, or Gregg's manager, or ...?

Interesting a lot of people thought of country singers because my first thought was jazz players - horns on "Les Brers" and "Liz Reed". Or bluegrass like Dickey's 1974 tour - Rolling in the Hay does a great bluegrass version of "Jessica".

Great idea -- it could go on ad infinitum -- the playing on Pedro Arevalo's Pedro & Friends Too CD, for instance -- most of GS is on that -- it's sooo good -- low-key, acoustic, swinging --

players like Pedro, bro. David, of course long time members Duane, Andy, Mike Kach, Frankie Lombardi.....so many folks would want a play w/this incomparable musician -- at such an occasion, the Pickin on The Allman Brothers CD's>version of Hot Lanta, Bomb -- it's 1 of Dickey's greatest instrumental lines

PCB, the Dixie Dregs too, really burn Jessica on their California Screamin album

Don't know all of the details, but Don Was organized the Love for Levon tribute that Gregg and Warren both played at, and he seems to have been doing them ever since (Mavis Staples, Skynyrd, Warren's Last Waltz shows, etc).

Was was musical director.Barbara O'Brien was organizer and force behind Love for Levon.Barbara is a friend of mine from Woodstock-she was Levon's manager.

It is a group called Blackbird that is doing a lot of these concerts.

https://blackbirdpresents.com/blackbird-presents-once-in-a-lifetime-concert s/

I'd be glad to be wrong, but I feel that most are looking at this through ABB colored glasses. However, I feel that the people who promote these tribute shows probably think they checked off the ABB box with the Gregg show.

I just don't see a show for Dickey having the big production and promotion budget that the one for Gregg had.

The one for Dr. John worked because they did it around Jazz Fest and all of those artists were already in New Orleans so no travel was involved.

I'd love to see one for Dickey, if anything to hopefully see Dickey play one more time.

Ween has a tune called "Dickey Betts" which is a pretty awesome tribute. Seems like they ought to be invited.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg6zEamLHNo

Chuck Level, Charlie Daniels, Warren, Derek, Willie, Keith Urban, Billy Joe Shaver, Trey, Santana, Clapton lots of people could make this a keeper particularly some of the country people. I thought I saw somewhere that either Faith Hill or someone like that was a pretty regular customer at HTW.
It's too bad Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Vasser Clemens are no longer around.

I thin it is a good idea...I think Gregg would do it...but I don't think Dickey has the management to pull it off................

unsure where Gregg would fit in....but Dickey sat in w/Phil & Friends several times -- a show of a format something like that mayb -- w/Phil certainly being invited -- also Bobby, whose most recent Blue Mtn. CD is Real Nice & right up Dickey's alley -- they should be invited b4 Gregg IMHO

A Pedro & Friends format for a show for Dickey would be The Bomb -- it'd be awesome if Pedro had a key role in such a gig -- like Dickey he's a really good acoustic guitarist & slide player, it'd be so cool to see some of the Collectors stuff played onstage -- Dickey shines on that Pedro & Friends Too CD

I think Gregg should certainly be there ( Jaimoe too!) Who else better to sing no one left to run with? I would love to hear Warren open the show with Back where it all begins...

There is just a treasure trove of great tunes to draw from - all uplifting - guitar church if you will.

Great Southern was/is a great band. I'd love it if they'd get back out the road. Here's Pedro singing Hoochie Coochie Man from 3 years ago. I love Dickey's lead guitar work on it. Such a wonderful musician the man is.

Richard Betts picking on that red guitar....
