For a Yank unfamiliar with UK music venues, why choose Holmfirth or Bristol markets? Would not something like Birmingham or Manchester be bigger draws?

Just curious - thanks

EnglishDarren thanks a million! You made my day. Excellent news indeed.

"Saturday 07 May 2016
Moulin Blues Festival Grounds, Ospel, Netherlands"

that happens to be my favorite blues festival in the Benelux which i have been visiting annually since 1988!
Well except for 3 editions in the early nineties which i missed. Jason Ricci, Dewolff and Ian Siegal also have been confirmed by the Festival organisation so it looks like this 2 day festival is getting a great edition this year!

And there's also an option to go to that other Dutch gig on sunday.

Good question!

There is a network of venues in the UK for Blues tours. Sometimes these aren't in major conurbations but in relatively obscure places where people travel from miles around.

For example, the Picturedrome in Holmfirth, The Flowerpot in Derby, The Robin 2 in Bilston, Mr Kyps in Poole, the Boom Boom Club in Sutton, The Cluny in Newcastle etc.

I think some venues just specialise in certain types of music and are of the right size for the acts in question. Some UK cities have large concert halls but not necessarily a thriving club scene.

Some of the biggest Blues festivals are in even smaller towns!

That's my best response!

Thanks. Very insightful --- makes sense to just choose the best handful of venues and the people will come, especially given that travel times and mass transit are so much more hospitable relative to the States.

Is "y'all" one of those English expressions stolen by the Americans?

The Cluny in Newcastle

Holmfirth for me. Been looking for a good reason to visit this venue for a while as I've read many good things about it. Hotel, The Old Bridge Inn, right behind the gig too, it seems. Not seen The Mule since 2009 so really looking forward to this.

Just booked my hotel for London. We will drive to Holmefirth, its a bit of a trek over the Woodhead pass with some real tight corners and steep drop-offs so you have to have your wits about you when driving. its worse when its dark after the gig coming back.
