On my way to work I heard Allen passed , was lucky enough to see him twice in recent years , he wrote some great songs that were covered by many , including " Get Out Of My Life Woman " and "Fortune Teller " . I had him sign a little football which he threw into the crowd and he was so soft spoken and kind , he also put on a seminar for children both times he played in Edmonton , a truly kind soul . R.I.P.

I was just thinking of getting tickets to one of his NYC shows. He's here all of the time, so easy to take it for granted.

Huge bummer, incredible loss. I first became of aware of him via his horn arrangements for The Band - what a door that opened. "Get Out of My Life Woman" is a standard for the ages.

Probably one of the most important, yet underrated, figures in 20th century music.

By design, Allen Toussaint was one of the first performers I saw my first day ever in New Orleans, at Jazzfest in 2004. It was a magic moment.

I didn't know until today that he wrote "Sneakin' Sally..."

R.I.P to an absolute TITAN of music. Visionary of Funk...psychedelic R&B, blues, rock, country, jazz, soul. Impossible to categorize. Genius producer. My wife came in from work forlorn and told me she couldn't believe I didn't text her back...I didn't even know. Kind of shocked...what a loss. We fantasized about seeing him for the 1st time in NOLA while dancin' around the living room listening to Life, Love and Faith and Southern Nights. Friends...if you don't own those two, not to mention From a Whisper to a Scream...PLEASE, do yourself the favor. TIMELESS records. Unfortunately we'll never have the opportunity. Go see the legends while you can folks. That band in heaven just got a lot funkier...RIP Mr. Toussaint...you were one of the geniuses.

He was one of the main architects of 20th Century New Orleans music. If that isn't an incredible legacy, I don't know what is.

By the way, if you're looking for songwriting credits for Toussaint, don't forget to look under Naomi Neville. That was his mother's maiden name (yes, he is related to THOSE Nevilles) and he used it for a pen name for many of his songs.

I was lucky to see him several times at Jazz Fest, and he always had a great band and put on a good show. A true pro's pro to the very end.
