After reading this I have a lot more respect for Jason Isbell. Making music for the right reasons and hopefully he has continued success.

The Allmans' spontaneity came from "magic mushrooms that grow on cow **** in Macon"?

Quite sure that's only part of the equation...

It's also only one sentence and while he's definitely not wrong, it's kind of pointless to dissect one sentence from a 3 page article.

Pointless to dissect? ---- what else are we supposed to do around here?

And I'm down with the fungus as much as the next guy (((( someone cue the BWIAB album cover ))))) but I just thought to attribute it all to that without being mindful of the countless jazz records, the counterculture era, and the inherent playfulness and curiosity the band members seemed to possess wasn't painting the full picture....

Maybe Isbell was just f'n around --- I hope he really doesn't believe that

I can't believe that anyone would take that comment as anything more than Isbell was joking with the interviewer.

Isbell has a great sense of humor. I think he's mostly kidding there. It indicated he laughed. It's cool that he has a great appreciation for the Brothers. I'm not surprised.

I will add that Isbell's band right now has never sounded better. Sadler Vaden is an ABB level guitarist and that isn't hyberbole. His shows aren't a jam band concert, but there is very tasty playing happening by both Jason & Sadler and Sadler gets a chance to stretch it out and get creative at many spots in the show. Though I wish Isbell would give us a little more of his early solo material (first 3 solo albums are excellent), I saw a great 2 hour set from them last week in Atlanta. Jason & the 400 Unit are at the top of their game and not to be missed.
