Finally McCarthy admits what was the real purpose of the select committee on Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. The GOP conservatives doing what they do best - wasting taxpayer dollars & playing political games as opposed to doing the work of the people. They could have been doing real work but instead used a select committee as a ruse - beyond pathetic.

Kevin McCarthy gleefully admitted to Sean Hannity Tuesday night that the entire purpose of the Benghazi Select Committee was to hurt Hillary Clinton's political chances.

Reaction on Twitter was almost immediate:
ADVERTISING

Oh, I love it when they confess. Perhaps Pope Francis' visit did some good, at least.

This has always been Republicans' goal. Remember when the Groundswell group met?

In May, 2013, General Jerry Boykin said this:

"We are not backing away from our call for a special committee with subpoena power, bipartisan, to try and get to the bottom of this whole Benghazi situation. In the end, I think what we're going to find is there was malfeasance, there was ineptitude, and there was a huge deception that went on before, during and after this whole thing. And I think that what we'll find today is that Hillary Clinton made some egregious decisions and the president was basically absent from his post and did not make the decisions that as the Commander in Chief he should have been making and because he was focused on some other things so--. "

In other words, let's make this about Hillary Clinton, shall we? Later in that same meeting, Breitbart News' Steve Bannon leapt in cautioning the group to be careful not to go after Hillary too soon, but to focus on getting the Select Committee first.

Therefore, this should have come as no surprise to anyone, but because our librul media has the memory of a goat --and I may be being mean to goats-- they just carried on with all the bull **** Benghazi stories and let the likes of Joe Scarborough pick up the reins and run with the smears.

pops,

Not surprised at all. What's surprising is the admission by a congressman that wants to be the next Speaker Of The House. He's bragging on something that reflects the lies of intention of a committee. The actions of the committee are unethical to say the least. However, McCarthy is campaigning to the far right members of the GOP, and in a twisted way he sees this as a feather in his cap.

There should be a select committee to investigate the Select Committee on Benghazi and its chair, Trey Gowdy. They were searching for the truth. The truth in their minds was doing planned damage to a candidate from the opposing party running for POTUS. Great job, guys. You earned your pay.

Of course, now he's back pedaling after getting flak from the GOP.

Still, my favorite line of McCarthy was that Clinton was "untrustable." Yes, the new speaker can make up new words on the spot. Almost like Trump.

This is why I haven't chimed in on this subject. They have been going after the Clinton's for so long with so many bogus and expensive investigations and the only thing they ever got to stick was Bill's lying about his personal sex life. I take these investigations with a grain of salt. If the Democrats had investigations for everything the last administration did there wouldn't be time for anything else. How many deadly embassy attacks happened during the W Bush/Cheney years yet we never had so many costly investigations about them? I am convinced that there is no limits with the Republicans when it comes to trying to demonize and smear their opponents with falsehoods and over exaggerations.

I saw McCarthy make that statement. As a ranking member, he has vocabulary privileges. Guess we can expect even more additions to the dictionary if he becomes speaker.

This is outrageous!!

Up until now, weren't investigations of this type designed to help someone's
political career?

Gee Whiz!

Imagine what would happen if the GOP put in half the effort they make with these bogus investigations into actually governing. I think it says a lot about the GOP. They don't believe that passing their agenda will win them any votes, so better to spend their effort smearing the other side instead. Must stay in power at all cost, and they don't think their ideas will help them do it.

They started that tactic with Bill first with the Arkansas land/real estate questions, then it was that intern, who from all the accounts I read, seduced him, that really was NOT his fault. There is so much hypocrisy in Washington. It is well known that the Hay Adams Hotel has been used for decades for discreet extra marital activities including politicians, but they only point fingers at whoever is on their hit list.

The average density of the human body is roughly equal to the density of water, depending on each individual's percentage of body fat, of course. Thanks for asking!

I compared the waste of time and money of a political witch hunt under the guise of investigating Beghazi to the waste of time and money that is gridlock (which you say is normal and proper), and the thing that they have in common is congress. I can't believe I actually had to explain that.
