A group in Arizona led by Jim Ritzheimer, a former Marine, and biker plans to have contests on drawing Muhammad, peace be upon him, the Prophet of Islam at two masjids Friday May 29th. Friday is equivalent to the Sabbath day for Jews (Saturday), and Sunday for Christians. It is a holy day. Friday is the day Adam was created. The masjids have said that they have received threats against their members.

https://reverbpress.com/news/arizona-biker-gang-plans-armed-peaceful-protes t-mohammed-cartoon-contest-mosque/

Why anyone wants to start this at a house of prayer on the day when the people go to pray, is a direct provocation. Here in the land of religious freedom, that should not happen. The Quran says do not fight them (those who are against you) at the masjid, unless they fight you there.

Here in the land fo religious freedom is exactly WHERE it should happen. Those who want tne enjoy American freedom of religion need to accept the American freedom of expression even when it offends them. Even if its blasphemous.

That's great and I agree, but here's the thing. Why poke the bear? Is "because I can" really a good enough answer? Nobody seems to have an issue with criticizing (putting it mildly) Westboro Baptist Church for exercising their free speech rights, but as soon as anyone criticizes these people they are called unAmerican freedom haters because after all it is nothing but a bunch of innocuous cartoons.

Yeah the F*&% ISLAM shirts, the call to bring firearms and the invite to all motorcycle gang members to attend should really be defended under the guise of "freedom of expression." These people are the scum of the earth and so are those who defend them. The Muslim community, the true Muslim community, will be asked to turn a blind eye to the "freedom of expression" in front of them. These poor devout individuals will be terrified in their own house of worship. The defense of "freedom of expression" does not apply.

Most Muslims are not radical. But re: the radical sect I have sat through many discussions here where people said things like "If the US didn't support Israel they would stop attacking us." The bottom line is the radical sects are going to find something to kill someone over no matter what. They are not rational and are looking for opportunities just like these to strike

The concept of freedom of expression is right on. What is your explanation in those instances where people end up shot or killed in these types of events? Is it just collateral damage and one of those throw away prices paid for freedom?

I bet those Marines and bikers are Christians who believe in the Bible.....the Bible that states a devastating flood is the result of God's wrath on a people that sinned. How would they describe what's going on in TX and OK? I think it's ironic that a Marine, who fights for our Constitution, created an anti-religion based event.

I doubt that there are many sane folk here among us who will argue that the stager of this latest "Draw Mohamed" show is a first rate @sshole and moron (or moran - depending on ones lexicon).

"Doing it because you can ..."? As stupid as that actually sounds - well, yeah that's part of the whole point.

There seems to be a large part of our immediate populace who think that this display should not be allowed because it is blatantly offensive to a certain religious group. I get this.

The same laws that protect people from burning our nations flag or hanging politicians in effigy protect these morons and allow them to stage their pathetic event.

Offending religious groups? If we're going to start playing to that logic then we must cave to the demands and sensitivities of ALL the religious groups. Are you really ready for this?

The hard core Christians oppose abortion and gay (same sex) marriage. Some of the fringe wackos from these groups have already shot doctors and blown up clinics. So, if we are to deny a person the opportunity to stage a senseless display of pseudo art on the basis that it offends Islam, then it would be conceivable that we should also deny abortion and gay marriage because it offends the minions of other religions. Right?

My problems with Islam is the same as my problems with most of the centuries old religions - they are simply outdated and archaic and they prey on the ovine mentality. I stick to my original post that these Islamic guys just need to grow a thicker skin. Catholicism is certainly archaic, yet the new Pope is displaying levels of tolerance and acceptance unseen in his flock for centuries.

I know it's hard for you to swallow, but a "Draw Mohamed" event is just another form of peaceful protest - which can certainly get out of hand and go awry, depending on the actions of the participants and the reactors. Welcome to the land of the free. Peace.

You know what? Being told we shouldn't our can't do this makes Americans want to do it more. It's funny how being provacative (like dipping Jesus in Urine or excrement) is considered high art to so many on the left until it's Islam that is the subject of it. I think not being intimidated by fear of violence is in and of itself an excellent reason to do something in this country which supposedly treasures free expression.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. The fact that you believe this (and so do millions of others) is frightening to the future of free expression in this country.

You are such a liar. Name me a liberal who thinks dipping Jesus in urine or excrement is high art. Name just one! And then show me that the person does not believe in free anti-Islam speech.

I don't think there is a single person alive who has ever made a statement as disingenuous as the statement you just made.

In my opinion and in many local statutes it already is...

Threat of harm generally involves a perception of injury. Harm is physical or mental damage, an act or instance of injury, or a material and tangible detriment or loss to a person.

You may argue that no direct threat was made but I will counter that if you wear a shirt that says F*&% your beliefs, you ask those coming with you to arm themselves and invite a demographic of individuals known for violence that a reasonable threat was made.

x2. God is about relationships, not religious dogma.

But he had rules and he gave them to EACH group, first the Jews, then the Christians, then the Muslims. There is only One God. There is no Muslim that tells you his God is better than your God, because they know there is only ONE God, the rest of the world doesn't seem to understand this. If and when it does, then there might be some meaningful dialogue, with the ultimate goal of bring ALL religions under one banner, which is what Jesus will do when he gets back on Earth, after secular governmental regimes are taken out of power. This is why the anti-Christ will be able to rise and rule the world, because he will take down ALL other governments, then he will hand the world back to God once he has sifted the evil from the good. The ones who will follow the anti-Christ and agree to be misled will have signed their own death warrants. That is all Satan asked for, to get respite for awhile, and to mislead any souls who would go with him, he told God he would help weed out the evil people who do not belong in God's kingdom. God agreed to let him do that. That is the test for mankind, do you want the pleasures of this world, Satan can make sure you get them, just give him your soul, what do you need it for anyway, he will convince you there is no afterlife, all there is what is here right now. Many accept that. The others, the Afghans who will not give in to corruption and greed, live pious, poor lives, but their hereafter guarantees them paradise. They are harder to mislead, so Satan sends other Muslims to try to entice them, they will not go along with anyone who is not living according to the laws they know to be the truth.

You have extremists in Islam, you have extremist rednecks, skinheads and others. All of them need an education rather than just reacting to fear. Going to a place or worship to threaten people is WRONG. Each person is allowed to practice their religion, they have a right to pray in peace. Freedom of expression does not give anyone the right to harass someone at a house of prayer. Harassment is Harassment.
