Played 1980-81 in Boston -- 25HR, 105 RBI, .275 BA in 1980 (google) -- he and Carney Lansford were great that year for us

Who is the analyst? He looks familiar.

Thanks. As a kid I remember him and Garagiola (sp?) doing the NBC Saturday game of the week. Nice memories.

I got all of this from a pretty good source, and ex-Red who was drunk enough to let it fly. The Reds clubhouse was set up with Bench and Perez at one end and Rose and Morgan at the other. These "bookends" had what looked like a friendly rivalry going but truth be told Bench and Rose couldn't stand each other. Perez was the stabilizing force in the middle of it.

He also said that, aside from Morgan, most of the Reds didn't care much for Rose in general as a person. He was about Mr. Pete Rose above all, and the hell with the rest of the guys.

Although they respected his ability, he was disliked for being a self-centered hot dog. Rose intentionally wore a batting helmet about three sizes too big so it would always be flying off as he ran the bases, a big part of his image. Stuff like that. Notice how none of the Reds spoke up for Rose when he got swept up in the gambling problems or banned from the HOF? Not one.

Now you know.

I have heard all of that. Is it true? Who knows. As a child I thought he was a dick. Couldn't stand him. What he did to Ray Fosse? My God.

Having said that, I think he should be in the HOF. He did nothing wrong as a player.

His recent comments that he thinks he will be in the HOF someday I find idiotic. If Joe Jackson isn't in after almost 100 years, I don't see Rose having a shot. Much more evidence against Rose.

My two pennies.

But he did as a manager. Betting on games he was involved in. He'll NEVER get in the HOF.

Yep, that's what I said. I don't think he WILL, I think he SHOULD.

And again, I don't like the guy. I just think his on field play merits it.

Awesome -- Red was later manager, & Stan the Man GM, when the Cards played the Sawx in the 67 WS

There was no greater fireman than Dick Radatz in 1963-64 -- scary to hit against, said Mickey Mantle

Why do I think it was Ernie Holmes of the Steel Curtain, not Otis Sistrunk who Alex Karras was referring to when he made that classic University of Mars comment -- all good/foggy brain

Marques Johnson, great player, he, Jr. Bridgeman, Sidney Moncrief, Bob Lanier, Alton Lister, Paul Mokeski, Randy Breuer, coach Don Nelson....

How I wish cut&paste would work for this thread so I could post photos -- thanks again

Click on the last icon on the right. the img thing.

Go to a picture you want on a website, right click on it. Go to properties. Copy that from the url. Then paste it between the img icons at the top.

If that doesn't work, let me know. I can walk you through it.

Oh, and Paul Mokeski? He sucked! One of the Pistons worst decisions ever.

Lee Smith is a good one. Remember when bullpen guys would throw two or three innings? Ah, the good 'ol days....

I remember those days well. If the starter got lifted and the next guy was making good pitches and getting people out you left him in there. A sensible approach IMO.
