wonder if this'll work -- if so, it's the greatest feat of all times

Thanks Rusty -- now this much I know I can do! (cut&paste)
Frank "Hondo" Howard's gargantuan stature comes across in this photo -- here's a story about the dentally challenged slugger told by Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson in the latter's 1969 autobiog -- they're at an offseason golf tournament in San Diego -- Howard called Ken Fab, not Hawk

"Hondo roomed with me at the 1967 tournament at LaCosta. I had a buddy from Savannah in the navy there, Jerome Henry, who had just gotten married. He phoned to ask if he could bring his wife and another coupkle up to see me. I told him come on up but neglected to tell him I had a roomate and neglected to tell Hondo they were coming.

"When the two couples arrived about 9 in the evening, Hondo was taking a nap. The five of us were having drinks in the kitchen when Hondo woke up. Before I had a chance to warn him, he came strolling in from the bedroom in his boxer shorts.

"Hondo is a sight to behold under any circumstances. It isn't just his height -- I know a lot of guys 6-7 and over -- nor his weight -- I know plenty of football players around 275. It's the whole ensemble that gets you. He's just big all over, and at LaCosta he was bigger than usual -- must have weighed 300 pounds.

"As he came walking in, yawning and stretching, all these people could see was a practically naked monster with only four widely-spaced teeth showing. He was rubbing his eyes as he said, 'C'mon Fab, let's get something to eat'. Without his choppers, his speech was a confused grunt, and he looked like a gigantic blond ape straight out of the jungle. He would have scared his own grandmother.

"When he saw I had company, he turned and ran back to the bedroom to put some clothes on. At the same time, Jerome, who stands about 5-3 and weighs 110 soaking wet, took one look at this monstrous, mumbling apparition and ran out the door so fast that I had to chase him all the way to the 13th green before I caught him. I never saw a guy so scared. He thought Hondo was a giant maniac who had come in to kill us all."

As the Astrodome was nearing completion in late 1964, Satchel Paige was brought in to test the effect throwing indoors would have on breaking pitches.

Satchel Paige & Josh Gibson

In my opinion, Josh Gibson was the greatest catcher of all time.

Although he is in the HOF, I think he kind of flew under the radar. Underrated. I remember him mostly for the cocaine bust coming in or out of Canada (I can't remember which way it was).

He shows up at a lot of events here at Wrigley Field and he is a good ambassador for the game.

That's sad. He was a hoss for the Cubs for many years. Started a lot of games and pitched a ton of innings.
