This ain't right.

The video, well instead of reading this you get to hear the NRCC guy justify it. Amazing.

National Republican Congressional Campaign using fake Democrat websites to lure voters

Posted by CNN Special Investigations Unit Reporter Drew Griffin

(CNN) – A warning this election season: If you are searching the Web for information on Democratic congressional candidates, read the fine print.

At least 15 websites that appear to be official campaign sites for Democratic candidates, are actually the handiwork of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

In an effort to improve their online efforts this election season, the NRCC’s digital team came up with what the group believes is a great idea: get out the Republican message through fake Democrat sites.

“The idea is people who are looking for information on the candidate, one of the places we all go now is online and so this is a way for folks to find out more about the candidates and information they may not find on the candidate’s own site,” said Daniel Scarpinato, the NRCC's press secretary.

The NRCC bought up hundreds of URLs on potential weak Democratic candidates and created sites that mimic the real ones.

It may sound deceiving, but Scarpinato insists the well-thought out, well-planned program is pure genius.

”Well, we are very proud of this program.”

Montana Democratic congressional candidate John Lewis has a different opinion.

Lewis is one of the Democrats who Republicans have targeted with their own site called JohnLewis4congress.com.

”I have seen a lot of unfortunate uses of deception in the last few elections,” Lewis told CNN. “This is just another in a long list of that.”

Lewis said Montana voters will be able to “see right through a website that is based on deception.” Still he bemoans what he calls outside interests backed by “dark money” trying to trick voters in his state.

Scarpinato at the NRCC says there are no tricks at all and disputes anyone’s claim that the sites are deceptive.

“I think that sites are clear in terms of the disclosure and the content where were coming from,” Scarpinato said. “And I also think it’s important for voters to get all the perspectives on the candidates. So just as a candidate is going to put information out about themselves, we’re going to put out information about the candidate that they are not putting out that we think is important for voters to know.”

And to do that, the National Republican Congressional Campaign says it will expand its building of fake sites.

Do Democrats do it, too?

The NRCC press secretary told us the Republican strategy is cleverer, but that Democrats have done the same thing.

One day after CNN’s interview Scarpinato directed CNN to a site mocking a Republican built by the Florida State Democratic Party, which the national Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee insists it had nothing to do with.

In a statement to CNN, the DCCC wrote, “It is not the DCCC’s practice to make websites that could be confused with the opponents site.”

Undeterred, the National Republican Congressional Committee thinks it has a winner and will create more fake websites as the 2014 midterm elections draw near.

When they can't win an election without having to resort to trickery then it's a pretty sorry candidate running.

I thought this was supposed to be about Republicans.
Jerrymandering was used quite judiciously when the dems had control of the Ga legislature.
Several districts were so stretched out that they ran from Atlanta into Augusta, to Savannah, and through entire regions to make up a district that would be majority dem.
Cynthia McKinneys' district was so winding and convoluted that in some areas neighbors on both sides of you were in a different district, but the person who lived behind you was in your district. Going down some streets alternating houses were in different districts, and sometimes the only thing connecting one area of her "constituents" with another was a single house. A lot of houses in her district, one house connecting, another part of the neighborhood in her district. To give you a better idea, her district ran almost 170 miles, winding through Atlanta into rural districts, splitting some small towns, bypassing entire communities, just so a Dem could be elected.
Her district was re-drawn in 1995 due to the Supreme Court ruling the "unconstitutional gerrymandering based on racial composition of the district".

Tampering-poll workers who voted at least 6 times just so they would know that their vote would go to "Mr. Obama". But many supporters say there is no voter fraud.

Making it hard for minorities and the poor to vote-Dems were the one who put in poll taxes and "voter tests".
Also, I haven't seen any provisions spoken about that makes it any harder to vote than it does to cash a check. Have you?

I'm not a huge fan of either Donkeys or Elephants, I'm an independent, but you must remember that when you throw the crap around, somebody is there to remind you just how bad BOTH sides are.

I find it laughable that you compare what happened in your state 20 years ago to the republiklan taking conrol of the house of congress by gerrymanderering and making it hard for poor african americans to vote in the red states. congress who fillibustered the president, thus ending unemployment benefits for millions of americans despite republicans getting all the consessions thay wanted [it still wasnt enough] yeah dirty dealing has been done on both sides, but the republiklan has been way more slimy and ruthless about it. independent huh? ha ha ha!

Yep. I'm totally independent from either party. I have no masters to tell me how to think.

So you are not registered to vote as a Democrat or Republican?

Congratulations, you've proven smarter than those who toe the party line, whichever one it may be.

How do you know that? Do you have a reliable source for that info? Would love to see it...

Republican campaign group tweaks websites, makes them less misleading

Posted by
CNN's Ashley Killough
Washington (CNN) – The National Republican group whose mission is to elect GOP House members has altered some of its misleading websites for 2014 congressional candidates, making it more clear that any contributions made through the sites will be going toward defeating Democrats, not supporting them.

CNN Special Investigations Correspondent Drew Griffin featured the National Republican Congressional Committee’s strategy earlier this month. At least 15 websites that appear to be official campaign sites for Democratic candidates are actually run by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

The website changes come after Griffin interviewed one donor who thought he was contributing to Democratic Rep. John Barrow when he clicked a big, blue “donate” button on a site that looked like it was made by the Georgia congressman’s campaign. The URL read: johnbarrow2014.com.

Randy Frails, the donor, contributed $1,000 through the website, only to soon realize it was actually a site created to challenge Barrow. He didn’t see the smaller print that stated the money would go toward defeating the Democratic incumbent or the tiny disclosure at the bottom that the website was paid for by the NRCC.

Frails was able to get his money back, but the John Barrow website is one of many that uses the image of the candidate in a positive light, not the kind of image seen in attack ads. It appears at first glance to be supportive of the candidate.

The copy on the page reads like a negative ad and quickly proves that the website is not affiliated with the candidate: “Georgia families know John Barrow is not fighting for them in Washington.” NRCC spokesman Daniel Scarpinato defended the websites earlier this month, saying the “sites are clear in terms of the disclosure and the content where we're coming from.”

The home page portion of these websites still remains online, including the disclosure, but the contribution page has changed.

For example, the big “donate” button on the John Barrow website takes donors to a new page, one that looks distinctly different from the John Barrow website and explicitly states the NRCC’s name at the top.

“The National Republican Congressional Committee exists to defeat House Democrats. Chip in today to help increase the Conservative Majority in the House,” the page reads.

Here’s an example of the old shot of a contribution page for Democratic candidate Alex Sink in Florida. The donate button now takes donors to the new page.

Scarpinato confirmed Sunday the group had changed the donation portal on the websites.

"We recently updated our contribution pages, as we frequently do, to highlight our efforts to defeat House Democrats in 2014 and prevent Nancy Pelosi from ever being Speaker of the House again,” he said in an e-mail.

A photo of President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius - who are all smiling - is also displayed at the top of the new contribution page.
