Was there a message to be taken away from that "address" last night?

The message that I received was, "I want to drop some bombs on Syria, so please don't nobody stop me."

The question that I have: "who stands to profit from this war?". There's got to be money in it somewhere for somebody.

These are two of our ENEMIES fighting each other. I can't justify running to the defense of someone who doesn't like me. I'm liable to end up with somebody's knife in my chest if I do. I say, let one of the mighty military forces of that region take care of this.

If Putin will let him.

Why don't he just give the GPS coordinates of the targets?

What a miserable excuse of a leader.

Agreed. This is all about the selling of war. You should have heard one the Presidents sycophants on "Face the Nation" Sunday morning..."It's the humanitarian thing to do" he almost pleaded."They are killing children"...Heart wrenching, it really is.

On a different slant, (and kind of out there) but I often wonder what "Alien beings" who may or may not be watching us from afar think of our, "Rules of war" and the "accepted ways" we have of killing each other. Indiscriminate bombing of women and children contains an "acceptable loss" factor. Torture has the Geneva convention and so on....but use gas....Like WE wouldn't use it on our enemies if our sovereign soil was invaded and WE were close to total defeat.....right.

'I am a very strong President with a great deal of credibility. I am not afraid to use military force so you are safe. However, unlike the last President I respect the opinion of the average American so I will let you decide. If you say yes, I look good. If you say no, I can blame you. And if we buy into Putin's plan I can say I was strong and forced the hand of our enemy and most of all, I can now say that I am even slicker than Bill (get my knob cleaned in the White House) Clinton.'

Seriously?

Seventy-two percent were in favor of the Iraq Invasion, 59% strongly in favor.

Yes seriously is what he is trying to get us to believe. I am not talking about polling the average person but their opinion as represented by Congress. (which is a farce by the way)

For every poll you can document I can find a poll that is the opposite. Let's not bring polls into this.

we were lied to about Iraq- the purpose of the mission (mushroom cloud in NYC), the links to al-queda operations there, the oil would cover the costs, the Iraqui cizilians would welcome US forces with flowers.

It all went horribly wrong and in Obamas defense no one wants to start this crap all over in another part of the middle east.

You will never see any more poll numbers like that supporting the GWB doctrine.

Yeah, based on bogus and untrue intelligence and because of that debacle nobody trusts us or our intelligence. So in a world that would have reacted and would have punished Assad together before the Iraq fiasco now even allies like the Brits won't agree to join us and Assad and all of his allies are watching and will take this as a sign that any further use of chemical weapons won't lead to any international punishment.

Bingo!!!!! The American people along with most of the rest of the world including allies like Britain are saying 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'. Now we can't get the backing and world support to punish a dictator who deserves to be punished and that the world would have come together and punished before the Iraq fiasco.

We are not the ONLY country in this "International" community.

It is just not our responsibility to police the world. Not when we are broke and have so many issues here.

Someone else needs to step up.

I didn't even support the Iraq invasion because I didn't think it would be worth the money...

HOWEVER, it doesn't matter how many Democrats and Bush-bashers claim that Bush lied or whatever, or that intel was falsified, or that Bush pressured the intelligence agencies....nothing was ever proven. Those claims were never substantiated because the evidence against Bush simply doesn't exist.

If you disagree with that statement, show us the proof. I've been waiting a long time to see some evidence, and not from somewhere like Mother Jones so don't bother posting conjecture from some Left wing site. Show us some real proof.

On the other side of the coin, is there ANY PROOF that WMDs were ever there?

I agree and normally and before the Iraq mess the whole International community would have been with us in punishing Assad. We are always the ones in the lead but nobody else will step up and join us now after the Iraq debacle and how we were led into it.

Here is your proof and don't give me any cr@p about lame stream media and fabrication. This is all based on fact. I am posting this now because you asked for proof. Now the onus falls on you to disprove what is being stated in this documentary. I haven't even heard Bush/ Cheney/ Rumsfeld/ Rice or anyone else deny these facts. Now go ahead and blame the messenger of facts.

I think Obama is being cautious about the whole situation instead of rushing into things, and whats wrong with that?. lots of BAD things could happen if we rush into this without looking what the aftermath will be. [see cheney/bush iraq war] of course most of the right wing chicken-hawk a$$-clowns who posted in this thread would find fault with obama, if he came up with a cure for cancer.

100% true.

The international community will bitch & complain, but in the end do nothing. They won't pursue any actions & will wait to let the USA do the dirty work.

The only exception I can see to that is Israel, and in this case I doubt they'd do anything unless attacked. If attacked, Israel has the balls & technology to remove Syria from the map.

Accurate.

It's pretty evident that opinion is far more important than fact or detail. Seems to be a common denominator.

I have a grandson just starting high school and he signed up for ROTC. I have to admit it makes my stomach knot up when I think about him going into the military. I don't trust our government to make wise decisions when sending our children and grandchildren into harm's way and I haven't invested a lifetime of love and care into someone just to be cannon fodder. I didn't watch the address last night because I don't care what anyone says about the situation. I don't think we need to allow the deaths of 400 children...tragic deaths to be sure...to lead us into a situation where we will lose over four thousand of our children like has happened already. And I won't even go into how the government has failed to keep the faith with those who served and returned.
