Good, Lucero's music keeps evolving. After 20 years of albums and hard touring they are starting to make some money & progress. Ben Nichols keeps writing great songs. This album is a bit more laid back. It's not 1372 Overton Park but it's still good, just different.

Thanks! I "discovered" Lucero through 1372 Overton Park and since then i picked up their live 2CD.
Any other recommendations from their back catalogue?

I'm crazy about everything. Lucero is one of my 3 favorite bands that is still putting out new albums. I wish they'd let Brian Venable extend his guitar solos a bit more. He's a very solid player but even in concert the wraps never really come off. Rick Steff is a monster player and plays multiple instruments from accordion, piano & organ.

After 1372 Overton, they added a horn section on Women & Work and expanded beyond a hard alt country sound. I love the evolution but moving away from Country really infuriated some of the long time fans but it was a great move by Ben Nichols. He, Jason Isbell and Patterson Hood are the 3 best songwriters out there now in my humble opinion in the Roots/Americana area.

After Women & Work, they really evolved with All A Man Should Do. The new album continues. You might want to go to AllMusic to read more about the albums.

They tour hard (200 nights, plus) and I'm lucky to see them at least once a year, often twice.

Social Distortion: Somewhere Between Heaven & Hell

Mix of country, punk & roots.

If you like Lucero, this might be a good band to listen to.

Thanks for all the info!

And with regards to your other recent post: i'm really diggin' Social Distortion for more than 25 years. Have all their CD's. Many years pass between album releases but Mike Ness and his bands still deliver. Really liked their last studio album. Also Mike Ness's 2 solo releases kick ass, especially the 1st one (Cheatin' At Sollitaire).

Since we both dig SD, Lucero and The Drive-by Truckers: do you know Slobberbone from Denton, TX?
Made 4 studio albums and than morphed into The Drams but in recent years they are giggin' again.
Especially their first 2 releases (Crow Pot Pie and Barrel Chested) are on my desert island list and i consider them genre classics. Brent Best wrote some awesome songs.

Yes I also love his two solo albums and agree that Cheatin' At Sollitaire is fantastic.

Same with Brent Best & Slobberbone. He has also produced a ton of albums. I didn't know they were touring again. Slobberbone is also putting out a Greatest Hits album soon. Patterson Hood is writing the liner notes according to the Slobberbone website.

Hey Strat do you like this version of The Weight? I'm glad you posted it today even though it's my least favorite version I've ever heard.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just curious if you like the version or are posting in her memory.

Here is an article discussing best covers of the song. Comments were upset Duane & Aretha were not on the list. I can see why after listening to some of their picks.

It's not my favorite but Aretha, Duane, et al are Rocking it in their own way. Works for me! The Band's version will always be tops.

BTW, you're not being a dick. You and everyone else who participates on this thread make it fun to visit and post. My mantra especially when it comes to music is "we just agree to disagree". (Except when it comes to Claptonestas ) Cheers!
