I saw a woman put a Handicap Parking permit on the rearview mirror of her vehicle. She hopped out of her car and ran inside the fitness center we were at. I notified the front desk and they found her.....she was late for her spinning class. They made her move the vehicle. There were plenty of spots within 100' she could have parked in. Those spots are used by truly handicapped people who come to the center for therapy.

I waited and told her I was the one who complained about her. She snarled at me and called me a, 'effin ahole'

I told her 'thank you' and promised I would be on the lookout for her in the future.

I see it all the time. People using another family members permit. They are what is wrong with this country. People are self absorbed pigs. Road rage incidents. Black Friday stampedes and violence. Adults beating up sandlot athletes on opposing teams. People buying their kids violent video games. And on and on and on. This country is going down the toilet.

We are no longer a decent society and the chickens are coming home to roost.

Sadly it may be too late. On a personal note I think that people have separated themselves from a God. Too many people fill the void with pleasures of the earth which are attractive and pleasurable but offer no meaning in the long run. Unhappy people being mean to others.

Last week at our local supermarket a woman quickly backed out of her parking spot and hit a store employee knocking him to the ground. He was dazed but not hurt. He is a teenager and was fast enough to avoid most of the blow. A number of people witnessed it. She never got out of her car and he yelled out (no vulgarity), 'Hey lady you just hit me. You need to watch where you are going'

He goes into work. About ten minutes later he is approached by the store manager and the woman is with him.

She tells the manager, 'He yelled at me in public and I want him reprimanded'
The kid defends himself and the mgr. asks her if she hit him and she has the frakin nerve to say, 'Yes I did but that does not give him the right to yell at me'

The manager told her that the boy would not be reprimanded and that she should use her mirrors and back out slowly as it is hard to see people sometimes.

She stormed out of the store.

I really worry about our country. Years ago when I was a kid I used to read how the United States would be defeated from within. I thought the poeple who wrote that were nuts. Now I see what they mean.

I still have hope even if it is just blind hope.

(maybe I am spending too much time in parking lots)

It is people like that who make me question my pro gun control stance.

In college there was a rich brat with a Ferrari who used to park sideways over multiple spots to keep from getting his car scratched. One day a bunch of us boxed his car in for several days. That was just someone being an a-h; this is someone being an fin-a-h. There should be mandatory community service included with the fines.

I'm not defending the woman in question, she sounds like she's perfectly healthy, but I would like to suggest that I've seen a number of people who looked phealthy with handicap license plates. I never know if they have heart desease or some other illness that requires them to walk only short distances. I know there are days when I try to park a ways away and walk to the store for exercise and days when my knees are hurting so much that I need to use my plaque and park in the handicap slot and I know I look just fine.

If you have no sticker and park you are damned to hell. If you have a sticker for a family member you are damned to worse if you abuse the privelege as you shoukd have greater empathy. If it is your sticker for yourself no one would question.

I would remind folks that not every handicapped person is visible to the untrained eye.

Lots of folks with neuropathy, arthritis, fibromylagia and other disorders don't always show it.
Yet they can be in great pain that too much activity makes much worse.

Caution on the side of compassion.

Hassling these people does not help their health any either.

As if we did not know that. I am talking about a 30 something female who was in an advanced spinning class. You ever watch one of the advanced classes? You get tired just watching them.

Well I am one of those people and have received some nasty looks and comments. So Not everyone gets the message.

but I appreciate you sticking up for folks that need these spots. I would have called a cop and let her get a ticket.

I don't have a handicapped sticker, but there are days I wish I did. In Bibb County there was a program where wheelchair bound residents were deputized and given a special ticket book. Everything was filled out except for date, time, location, tag #, and description of the car.

Local TV, radio, newspapers, and billboards advertised that the special squads were to be giving out the tickets
for several months in advance. Each ticket was $50, and points. Didn't take too long before the project was paying for itself, and getting a little extra in revenue.

Some folks thought it a joke and tried to fight, then found out about a few little things called arraignment hearing, court date, court dockets, summons to appear, and court costs.
Since the only way to get out of the ticket was to bring a valid handicapped permit, dated before the ticket was given, not even a handful got off.
Those who fought had to pay at least $200 court costs, the $50 fine, lawyers fees if they used one, and time away from work.

Way to go Bibb County. That should be a program every municipality follows.
Thanks for that post.

Since the dawn of man, there have been AH's. There will continue to be AH's until man is no more. The best thing is not become one and do the right thing. It's nothing to lose sleep over.

One day you might need one of those parking spaces, and some inconsiderate SOB who doesn't need that space has parked there. Then see if your attitude changes or you think of it as a "money grab".

Not saying it was or wasn't a money grab. But it defiantly isn't out of the realm of possibility in Bibb Co. This is no longer being enforced and hasn't been for a while.........

That's why the first line had the two words "There was"

There was a Sanford & Son when Lena Horne guested. Fred tricked her by talking about his Lame son Lamont. Upon meeting him Lena said: "This is Lame little Lamont?" Fred said "You don't have to be lame in the leg; you can be lame in the head."

These young ladies should be given a parking sticker for mental incompetence.

How about parking for a train in a huge commuter lot and running to catch it already idling at the station only to see a car with handicap plates pull into the parking area and into a close handicap space and have the owner jump out and start running alongside of you? these people just plain suck.

it reminds me of the Seinfeld episode. These spots are for folks who need them. I know that where i live, i had knee surgery and wanted a spot for a week or so as i hobbled onto the train into NYC where i work. The folks at parking office told me i had to go somewhere in the county and fill out all types of forms. They saw me on crutches but would not help me or give me a spot.

In addition, there were several empty handicapped spots. Anyhow just venting about an instance i had once. The spots need to be there for those in need and someone like that women should be fined heavily or better yet given 2 weeks of community service.
