Great show by Gregg last night at the Alabama theater!

We had the pleasure of an unannounced opening set by Birmingham's own, Fisher/Greene ensemble. Fisher/Greene is anchored by trombonist, Chad Fisher. An unusual grouping of an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, a trombone and a saxophone. They play some N'awlin's soundin' stuff most reminiscent of the Preservation Hall band. They even played a Hank Williams tune! They were wonderful!

Gregg sounded a lot stronger than when I heard him with the ABB in Atlanta recently or than in his show in Montgomery last Spring. Very few vocal slip-ups (only 2 minor ones!).

A very strange night of excellent music -disturbed only by a major fight/near riot right at the end of "Melissa".

Setlist was something like:

I'm No Angel
Statesboro Blues
Tears In My Eye (correct title?)
You Must Be Crazy (Floyd Miles)
Lucille (Floyd Miles)
Queen of Hearts

(after this, my list gets a little out of order - RB)

These Days
Can't be Satisfied (correct title?)
Melissa
Before the Bullets Fly
Going Back to Daytona (Floyd)
Midnight Rider

Encore
Floating Bridge
Whippin Post

I probably left something out - pretty sure I did. My favorite parts were "Queen of Hearts" (which had been requested loudly and repeatedly by the fans) and Floyd singing Little Richard's, "Lucille"!

I always feel my aggression levels rising as the audience is whipped up by the rabble-rouser that is Melissa!

WTF?!

That's what was so strange about it! I can see a bunch of rednecks flaunting their Budweiser consumption to something along the lines of "No Angel", "Whippin' Post", maybe even - but fisticuffs during "Melissa"?

Didn't see the start/cause/effect, etc. but one of the participants looked to be about 6'-12" and BIG! It took every bouncer in the building to get him out, as he apparently did not want to go. An almost as big woman was ejected along with him. Don't know if they were fighting each other or just everybody in their section. Larger than usual round of applause following "Melissa" - just in case the band wants to know why!

All in all, an excellent show! Gregg and band in tip-top form at the Alabama theater last night!

Sounds like a sasquatch or two made it to the show. I've heard they are in Florida, but this is the first I've heard of in Alabama.

The fight was about three rows behind my wife and me. It was the old stand vs. sit argument. The big guy and his girlfriend or mother (not sure which, but as mentioned, she was better than decent sized) wanted to stand and the people behind them took exception. Security asked them to sit a couple of times, but said they have the right to stand. Someone behind must have said something to escalate it to a push and shove session. I think in the end it was two guys and four women involved.

Hey, what more can you ask for. A great GA show and mixed gender MMA bout. Great night. I love America.

You were close. It's "Tears, Tears, Tears" from Low Country Blues. Great slow blues, and Gregg sings the hell out of it (as he does everything on that record). Thanks for the review.

Four women and two men pushing and shoving and cussin' to the serenading of Melissa?

Somebody needs to send this to Jimmy Fallon....

Wow. When you think you've heard of everything... Melissa isn't my favorite either... usually I wait until I get home before I kill something to relieve the burden that the playing of Melissa brings... The Road Goes On Forever!

I'm sure it was agreat show Rusty. And I'm glad you had a good time. But from where I sit it seems as if the fight might be the only thing special about it.
