Had a small trip on Thursday to the local shop:

Jimi Plays Berkley (2 lp) bought this new for 17.50, nice heavy 200g weight, solid packaging, records in a plastic, no scuff liner. Haven't listen to it yet, but the sound on it is suppose to be awesome.....and its Hendrix.

Used stuff;
Tapestry- Carole King, been looking for a nice clean copy for awhile, so very happy to find one.
Tumbleweed Connection- Elton John- a heavy DJM cutting from the UK, decent shape.
Steely Dan- Countdown to Ecstasy- nice and clean, really good sounding
Jethro Tull- Stand Up- not much into Tull, but I have been collecting a few of their earlier albums (up to Aqualung) pretty earthy stuff.
and I guess my surprise find was Rainbow- Finyl Vinyl, a 2 record live hits set released in '86 (except for 1 studio track) that was in excellent condition.

Over the weekend I went to the closest used record store and picked up a few:

Curtis Mayfield: Back to the World

Genesis: Invisible Touch I know some of those songs were overplayed at the time but I had forgotten how good some of the stuff is.

Emerson Lake & Palmer: Trilogy

Foreigner: Their first album. First album I ever had when I was a little kid. Still have it, all scratched to hell.

They were all in the bargain bin for 49 cents each.

You found the Mule stuff on vinyl?

I have Dose and Life Before Insanity on vinyl. I had Warren and Matt sign Life and they didn't even know either were available as records.

I guess that would be the record label at work.

Not sure - they were bought off amazon.co.uk and were still available there. Funny enough, I have been trying to track down Dose, but no success so far

Okay, not an expert here but it indeed happens more and more that stuff gets a vinyl release (180 gram, audiophile quality) and the artists themselves aren't aware of it. Those are not bootlegs but what happens is that speciality vinyl only companies get licences from the original label to produce and release them. So it's often another label than the artists own record company. One of those special vinyl labels is a Dutch company called
"Music On Vinyl". So we Dutch are not only good in building dikes and some sports but also appreciating and preserving music on vinyl haha!

they, for example, have 4 GM albums in print but also WH At Bonnaroo and a whole truckload of Rory Gallagher reissues.

here's some info:

"About Music On Vinyl
Music On Vinyl is a vinyl only record label that releases high quality 180g LP and 7" vinyl pressings of titles licensed from a wide range of record companies and artists who control their own repertoire.

These are both re-issues of classic titles, or a simultaneous vinyl release to compliment a CD/DVD release, all marketed under the Music On Vinyl brand, which vinyl lovers worldwide recognize as a trusted name providing a superb LP vinyl product.

As for our sources; We are provided with the best possible (analogue) masters available. On top of that, our sound engineer has over 35 years of experience in cutting and mastering records for (major) labels.

Music On Vinyl releases are available throughout Europe at any specialist record shop that has a customer import ordering service."

When I got back into vinyl again a few years back, the debut album from Santana was one of the first I bought, 360 Columbia sound, and I thought it was great, especially "Persuasion".

Interesting piece DutchFan - always amazes me how labyrinthine the music business is and how difficult it is to work out who is who.

The records themselves are sturdy 180g, basic packaging, but sounds amazing. Woodys bass really does grin!

I found Mule's Dose on Amazon. $696.99.

If anyone wants it for half that price, contact me. The signed Life Before Insanity will cost you more. Heh Heh...

This should be a fun auction to watch, I put up a Beatles record, the 1964 Philly concert, a souvenir..... got it in a purchase of records a couple years back grabbed it as almost an afterthought... appears to be Beatle interest out there, I had no clue.....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Beatles-Songs-Pictures-and-Stories-of-the-Fabul ous-Beatles-Concert-Souvenir-/281028545553?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4 16e9b4c11

not promoting here, just thought some might find it interesting.....

I also put up 4 King Crimson and 2 early Mothers, they may see some interest...

I have been looking for this for YEARS
My old hippie buddie from Arcata sent me a package in the mail.
It is the very first album by Krokus.....no AC/DC worship here....just a lil bit above average 70's prog rock.

Also included were some Grateful Dead vinyl bootlegs and a couple of picture discs from Heart and Styx. He siad he happened to viisit the mom n pop record shop and thopught of me.

A couple of prize ones for me this week:

Neil Young: Journey Through The Past
I love the whole side length "Words" rehearsal. Neil has never let this album out digital. Live CSNY Fillmore stuff too. Harvest outakes. TV show audio Springfield... Fun..... Anyone else ever see the stoned movie of this being the soundtrack to?

Hot Tuna: Hot Tuna
This album to me is like a favorite old pair of shoes.... love it... it never sounded right to me on CD, the warm vinyl mix is what it is meant to be, close, intimate, acoustic Jorma kickin' it, How Long Did I Hesitate buying this "
