This should get interesting.

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Arizona authorities can enforce the most contentious section of the state's immigration law, which critics have dubbed the "show me your papers" provision.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton clears the way for police to carry out the requirement that officers, while enforcing other laws, question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally.

The provision has been at the center of a two-year legal battle that resulted in a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June upholding the requirement, ruling against the Obama administration, which filed the initial challenge.

The Obama administration declared a measure of victory at the time, as the court said local police cannot detain anyone on an immigration violation unless federal immigration officials say so.

After the nation's highest court weighed in, opponents asked Bolton to block the provision outright by arguing that it would lead to systematic racial profiling and unreasonably long detentions of Latinos if it's enforced.

Lawyers for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, however, urged the judge to let the requirement go into effect, saying the law's opponents were merely speculating in their racial profiling claims. The Republican governor's office also said police have received training to avoid discriminatory practices and that officers must have reasonable suspicion that a person is in the country illegally to trigger the requirement.

In her ruling, Bolton said the court will not ignore the clear direction from the Supreme Court that the provision "cannot be challenged further on its face before the law takes effect." She reiterated the high court's interpretation that the law might be able to be challenged as unconstitutional on other grounds.

.The Obama administration's case was based on the argument that federal immigration law trumped Arizona law. The challenge didn't confront racial profiling.

Arizona's law, known as SB1070, was passed in 2010 amid voter frustration with the state's role as the busiest illegal entry point into the country. Five other states Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah have adopted variations.

To the supporters, the questioning requirement was the most important part of Arizona's law, which aimed to reduce the problems associated with illegal immigration through enforcement of the state's policy.

Immigrant rights groups say the requirement presents the most opportunities for civil rights abuses.

Shortly before the law was to take effect in July 2010, Bolton prevented police from enforcing the questioning requirement and other parts of the statute, ruling the Obama administration would likely succeed in its challenge.

Brewer, who signed the measure, appealed the ruling, lost at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and took her case to the Supreme Court.

Less controversial sections of the law have been in effect since late July 2010, but have rarely been used.

Brewer's office said the law is expected to go into effect shortly.

I am all for the USA closing borders from Mexico AND Europe AND The Middle East . We aint' got no more room. No more money.

I am not for illegals.
Thing is,
"The ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton clears the way for police to carry out the requirement that officers, while enforcing other laws, question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally.'

How does one's eye determine who to stop?
This is the bar. Your eye.
How can you determine who is illegal and who is not?
Looks?
Many people look like this to you and not like that to you.
Some Mexicans look White. They got more of the European people of Spain in their bloodline and less of the Mayas, Aztecs.

You are waiting here for a problem to happen.
I know someone many years ago who was Black American and went to Mexico for vacation crossing the border.
This person was stopped by the border and really detained because of how this person looked, Mexican. Nevermind person had US DL, govt. work ID, still. It was funny. It was back in the early 1980's.

Judge OKs Arizona's show-me-your-papers law

Excellent. This is a private party. You are welcome to attend, when you are legally invited. In this case "legally invited" means following the rules. Stand in line, follow procedure. Do the paperwork. Be LEGAL. Things are tough in Mexico?..tough sh*t. Stay home, make your country better. It is not our problem. I've financial issues too, don't we all. I don't care if its pennies on the dollar, I wish not to pay for ANY thing that benefits a group who CHOOSE to BREAK the first LAW they encounter. The law of LEGAL entry. Lat time I checked, there was a border between Mexico and the USA. If you can't ask for I.D. how else do you find these people?... What a convenient excuse... Just stand up and shout RACISM!...and PROFILING!......Horsesh*t, pure and simple.

You go Arizona!

The key words her SG are "while enforcing other laws". There are no part of the law that says the police are to hunt down illegals, just that they are to check the immigration status of those they have encountered while on normal duty, such as speeders, loud noise complaints, theft, and other various sundry things that would cause you to come in contact with the law.

"You pulled him over because he looked Hispanic"....

"No Sir, I pulled him over for expired plates and since he was here Illegally, he's gettin' a free trip home"..

"Racist"!

You go Arizona!

They don't really want to close the borders, they want to create the North American Trade Corridor whereby Canada and Mexico join us and we become one big nation, labored by the slaves that will come from Mexico.

They started by getting cheaper goods from countries in Asia, the Middle East and US jobs disappeared because they could open factories elsewhere, pay the workers little money and make nice profits. Well they are still at it. Now they want to add oil and other things to those markets and get it from Mexico to Canada as well as all thru the US. It will create jobs but somehow I doubt we will pay less a the pump or anywhere else for that matter.

Yeah, if you get stopped for a busted tail light, weaving along the road, throwing trash out the window--yeah, you've been profiled, as a lawbreaker. License and registration please. Sorry I don't speak Spanish. Anyone in the car speak English? Sir, why do I hear pounding on your trunk lid? Why do you have eight people hiding in the trunk of your Toyota? May I see your papers, PLEASE?
