I like the shootout vs ending in a tie. Losing in OT or in a shootout counts the same in the standings (not a "true" loss) and the losing team gets a point which I think is what each team got for a tie, but now at least one team is always going to get 2 points from every game.

The Bs and Devils shootout the other night went six rounds (six and a half if you count the re-do of Segin's shot when some knucklehead threw a sausage on the ice that went sliding through the crease just as he was shooting and scoring...fortunately he netted the do-over as well) and I thought it was pretty exciting, much moreso than ending in a tie.

Oh and by the way, the Bruins have yet to lose in regulation.

Carry on.

How about two 5 minute overtime periods...5 minutes of 4 on 4 and 5 minutes of 3 on 3?

I've always thought it was funny that the old 5 minutes of OT then tie format was kept decades after the original purpose was rendered obsolete.

Must have been tough Montreal played what 3 games in 5 nights?

The NHL season this year is a gamblers paradise, teams playing too many games per week, several back to backs game followed by one night off then they play again, makes for some easy picken's.

You folks keep watching, Gary loves sheep like you. BAAAAAAAAA

At least it would still be a form of hockey. Shoot outs are just not the game and the worst part is that they become 3 point games which make the standings foolish at times with teams not deserving making the playoffs.

As for the argument that people love it and it is exciting then watch how excited they would be if you had 5 fights to decide the game instead.

As for what Gary and the players think about us sheep, screw them. Like Bhawk, they are not getting a cent from me.

Oh and Buffalo ended that Bruins streak.

Carry on.

Yeah I know but the NHL Network freebie preview is over tonight. It was cool to watch 4 different games every night. Similiar to the playoffs with games all over the dial.

I'd pay the 48 bucks for the rest of the season but I'd never leave the couch. Baaaaaahhhh

Leafs youth movement is looking good, Frattin, Kelemin and Khadri look great togerther. Van Reamsdike looks great and sadly it looks like Burke was on to something in trading Schenn.

Agreed. The whole shootout thing reminds me of the overtime fiasco they put in for college football. What a joke.

Yep, they sure did. The Bs played too sloppy in their own end at times and the Sabres took advantage. Nice hat trick for Vanek.

John Scott (he's a monster) absolutely pounded Sean Thornton in a fight early in the game, which is not easy to do. Thorton never returned after serving his 5-minute fighting penalty and may have a concussion. If he's going to be out then that would be a significant loss, not only as the team's primary enforecer but as the leader of a high-energy 4th line that seems to have a knack for providing a great spark to the rest of the team at times right when they seem to need it.

The end of this game was very interesting. Lindsey Ruff said before the game that the bad blood that developed last year between these two teams was behind them, but then he calls a time out with 14 seconds left after an empty net goal made it 7-4, preseumably just to make the Bs have to look at the scoreboard a bit longer. I'm sure that left a bad taste and is something that the Bs will remember when they face off again next weekend.

PS - San Jose still undefeated at 7-0, very impressive start. If it is a sign of things to come, then the San Fran area stands a good chance to own the World Series, Super Bowl, and Stanley Cup champs all at the same time.

Funny to hear the Bruins announcer saying that Thornton lost a skte edge for why he went down.

Funny I thought it was the repeated punches to the head.

You are right though, he is a tough guy and definitely gets the team going when energy is down sometimes. He will be back and swinging away. Credit to him as Scott is huge. Lucic sure didn't want any part of that. Nice to see these two teams getting that rivalry back like the old days.

Aweseome. When I think of it Lindsay Ruffalo has been involved in NHL hockey since what 1975???? Amazing longevity as a coach and player. He has seen a lot.

Leafs look like the 20 through 30 team they are when they play a top ten team again.

Boston played as hard as they had to last night and came out with a shutout. I think the 3rd or 4th shutout in 7 of the last meetings against the leafs.

Van Reamsdyke was missing, Kessel was trying but B's are a good team. I think the Khadri line needs some more ice time. They hustle and at least attempt to be creative.

B's Rangers eastern final would be awesome.

Go Blackhawks!

Tried not to blink during the first 12 minutes of last nights game against San Jose..... 6 goals in less than 12 minutes - 3-3 tie after the Hawks were down 3-1. Scored one goal 8 seconds after San Jose did.

I went to bed with the Hawks up 4-3 with 8 minutes left, and they scored one more to make it 5-3. This 6 game road trip will be a real test for them - so far I like what I see - like getting totally outplayed by Calgary, give up a goal with 35 seconds left, and then score with 2.1 seconds left to send it into overtime - and win in a shootout.......

I watched that game last night, B's had nothing for the first period, woke up a bit in the second and then dominated the third.

Entertaining game.

They really missed Marchand (the little ball of hate) and Thorton last night, especially at the start. Rask kept them in it. Claude changed up his line combinations to start the 3rd and it payed immediate dividends. Hard to believe Montreal fired that guy!

It still goes, even if they did trade him -- rock on Tim Thomas, continue to follow your muse bro -- you know he was all smiles as Tuukka was standing on his head last night in Montreal

Hockey Day in Canada tomorrow for Peterborough, Ontario. Great town with some legendary watering holes.

Had me some fun in the Peterpatch back in the day.

Saw the Pete's play there once many moons ago and Stompin Tom. Oh and the Liftlock is cool.

A visit to the memorial arena in Peterborough should be on every hockey fans bucket list. That team has produced some of the best the NHL has to offer including Gainey, Yzerman and Pronger.

It was been sweet. After Sundays game in Nashville they will play their next 7 games at home. I'm going March 5th to watch them play the Wild.
