TOOOOOOK
Happy Birthday, Tuukka Rask

Yep he's gone off again -- 16-0-3 -- when Tuukka is going good, the guys in front of him pick up on that and their own level picks up -- we've seen that many times before, and now w/out David Pastrnak

David's thumb injury is worse than first thought, obviously
But no worries -- We Got Tuukka

At 42, still playing at a level to match his towering 6-11 (on skates) height
Anchors the rock solid D on the second best team in the league
How many other players have there ever been in the NHL like that -- few

ZDENO
Happy Birthday Zdeno Chara -- watta guy, he's tremendous, even the most militant of anti-Bostons would have to offer ups
David P still sidelined & there's growing concern-- let's go Broonz

Why are the only posts on this thread about the Boston Bruins? I like Boston but where do you think they are going this year? If they get out of the first round agains a slumping Toronto team, i dont see them in any way taking down Tampa this season.

The Caps should prevail in their conference and I think whoever wins the Tampa -Washington series will have no problem taking down whoever comes out of the West which is a complete crap shoot with all 8 playoff teams having a shot IMO.

must disagree, there's frequent mention of Toronto, Habs, the div races w/Wnpg-Nshvl, SJ-Calgary, LIslndrs-Wash -- old timer stuff like O-6 teams, the WHA era etc etc is mentioned --

the same people who used to post here still do on other threads, but don't here -- am an almost lifelong Bruins fan -- have tried to temper enthusiasm/keep it respectful -- but people Hate Boston teams & their fans

we're in your neck of the woods tonite -- 2 great teams, let's go Broonz, thinking we'll find cavernous Nassau Colesium to our liking

thanks bro for mentioning that, sure didn't have you in mind in previous post, know ya don't dislike Boston teams, did think ya mite be an Islndrs fan too, but know for sure the Broadway Blueshirts are numero uno -- you helped us b4 beating Tor, hopefully the same again Sat

game du jour tonite, Flyiz-ChiHawks -- Flyiz are 6 pts out, ChiHawks 4 --
after early struggles, both have adopted their new coaches' systems -- Flyiz couldn't handle Habs Tues, bettin they'll get similar O6 treatment in Windy City tonight -- ChiHawks are charging, they're 16-6-1
finally, ChiHawks-Flyiz open next season in Prague

Habs' playoffs have begun (same other teams) -- 1 point out, host 2nite an Islanders team desperate to keep pace w/Wash -- we found Nassau Colesium Much to our liking Tues, Tuukka only had to make 13 saves

Wattabout AZ -- 1st half of season near cellar, but now they've heated up along w/the weather down there & from outta nowhere the wily Coyotes are making em forget the Phoenix Roadrunners and are 1 of the WCs

Let's Go Brooonz -- really have no idea how playoffs will go -- it's Tor, & is likely to again go 7 games -- it's a sensational 1st rounder -- this stretch-run slate of games is even betr

For me it's more how far we've come this year than how far we can go -- but I know what you mean, TB really has no weaknesses, they're off the charts -- it could-easy play out same as last year where we oust Tor in 1st round, then beaten by TB

-- we play TB Lightning Monday -- they have 120 points, will likely end up with second-most regular-season points of all time -- They Own It This Season Alright, can't see Caps eliminating them -- Habs maybe, but they have to make it 1st

There's something about our team this year -- we've been awesome -- will likely bust 100 pts tmrw in Fla

ChiHawks have a wknd home & home w/Colo -- who they trail by 4 pts -- that's a mini-playoff as it were, aka a play-in

Flyiz came up big in Chicago, now a Saturday matinee du jour w/Islanders in town -- NYI has stumbled (L2) & it's a 3-way race in Met Div now w/Pitts -- that's stretch-run hockey, blink & you're set back a ways -- let's go Broonz

Habs close out w/top teams -- TB tmrw nite, then Wash & Tor -- Habs need to run the table to qualify -- it's between Canadiens, Columbus & Carolina for the WCs

we had chances to sew up 2nd place over the wknd against non playoff teams -- & didn't
what an irony -- Brad Marchand set the team record for shorthanded goals last nite in Det. -- & we're tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals allowed

Torrid races in Met & Centl -- SJ Sharks & LVGK have slumped out west -- nothing will be decided until after the final game, then after that w/teams that finished tied

games du jour tonite, Wnpg>ChiHawks, and St.L>Colo -- if ChiHawks & St. L win, it's a 3-way tie at 94 points atop Centl div --
& ChiHawks keep alive hopes of extending their season -- weather they do or don't, they've had a good 2nd half of season

also Tor vs NYI at cavernous Nassau Colesium, luckily for us Leafs have cooled off some too -- Let's go Broonz

Call him what ya want -- then digest this -- pretty good company to have your name mentioned in I'd say

"Brad Marchand became the first Bruin in 16 seasons to reach 100 points when he assisted on David Pastrnak's third-period goal during a 6-2 victory in Columbus Tuesday night.

"Joe Thornton had 36 goals and 65 assists for the Bruins in 2002-03.

"Marchand's assist, combined with his 36th goal earlier in the game, made him the 11th different Bruin to hit the century mark. Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr each did it six times."

Yeah pretty good company for Marchand but I am thinking #4 and #7 think he is a face licking douche just like most of the league and its fans.

GLG!!!

Yikes, just picking the 1st round is quite the plateful
double and triple OT games sap a squad of its long-term endurance -- would rather wait until 1st round is over for the rest of it -- victorious teams could also be exhausted/banged up

TB over Columbus -- would've taken Habs as a sleeper pick -- as it is Habs finished w/96 points, tying the record set last year by Fla for most points by a non playoff team

WASH over Carolina -- they showed how good they are in that 2-1 win last week in Montreal that bounced Habs

NY over Pitts, but a coin flip -- read somewhere NYI plays 1st round in Uniondale -- then they move in-town to their other rink, Barclays in Brooklyn, for the next round (if they win) -- 2 home rinks -- a 1st for everything -- Islanders went from allowing the most goals last year, to the fewest this year

CALGARY over Colorado
NSHVL over Dallas
ST.L VS. WNPG -- both 99 points -- ITP IMO (impossible to pick) -- Blues were dead-last w/34 points as of Jan. 3, article said -- but then, Blues really blew after changing coaches (also w/rookie goalie sensation Binnington's arrival) -- every bit as compelling as B's-Tor (that pick latr) -- great year for both, pick is WNPG

SJ over LVGK -- Erik Karlsson is back for Sharks -- that's large -- also Martin Jones played better in last 2 weeks, article said -- mainly SJ is a veteran squad w/many great players who've been there a long time -- they should have a very good chance to make finals -- w/33 pts Joe has 3rd-most points on the Shahks since mid Jan or so

They go back decades, a half century, centuries, when/wherever pucks have been dropped
The outcome of last year's 7th game left Bs-Tor lifetime playoff record at 38-37-1 -- couldn't be much different overall either
Pick? no thanks
Both teams are cut from the same cloth & a mirror image -- they had a collective 217 reg. season points, a record for a 1st-rounder, in last year's series
At 207 it's 10 less this year, but upper-echelon -- B's t2 w/Calgary, Leafs t6 w/Pitts & Nshvl
usually people say, the regular season means nothing in the playoffs -- have never bought that, we beat them 3-of-4, that means plenty to 1 fan

A half-century was mentioned -- alllllright-then
in honor of the Big Bad Bruins, my pick is SWEEP4 -- duplicating the outcome of Broonz-Leafs 1968-69 series

April 2 1969 is still considered probably the wildest scene ever at BostnGahdn
Only quick action by his teammates & Boston police saved Pat Quinn from being mauled by an enraged mob of fans as he sat in the penalty box, after he knocked Bobby Orr unconscious w/a shoulder-elbow check, & Bobby had to be carried off on a stretcher -- only plexiglass separated Quinn from fans, and when they smashed that to pieces.....teammates rushed over & cops arrived about the same time

then there was their pug Forbes Kennedy, who snapped & went around starting fights -- at 1 point Gerry Cheevers, who's seen enough of this kid's act, throws off his mask &, cumbersome goalie equipment & all, goes after Kennedy -- they square off but are quickly separated

what little Youtube there is shows this part of it, also a fan punching Kennedy as he skates by
then, just as things are starting to settle down, the Leaf punk completely suckerpunches John McKenzie, who was just standing there, & they have a fierce go

.....In short, the condition of Forbes' face as he was led off the ice to the trainer's room/psychiatric ward, was mute testimony to his notion of getting macho w/the Big Bad Bruins at BostnGahdn -- half the rosters of both teams were ejected, it was as much Pier 6 pandemonium as pucks, & lost in all the mayhem was Phll Esposito setting a single-game playoff record for points

The bloodthirsty chant of "Get Quinn Get Quinn Get Quinn Get Quinn" is all I remember watching it on TV -- Pat was quoted years later (in an online article) that, "I'm proud I survived that night." Indeed.

Johnny Bower also recalled extensively about this game years later, when he was in Boston for the Garden's 1995 closing -- interviewed by various TV/media
....in a long career of playing in every rink in North America, Johnny, who was 44 at the time of the game, said he'd never seen anything like April 2 1969 -- Johnny retired after this season

But we won the game 10-0 en route to a 4-game sweep, and 4 himself was back for the next game, something that would never happen today

there should be some sort of MVP recognition for the Red Wings' Dylan Larkin
In the storied history of this august franchise, he did something this season no other Wing -- not Stevie Y, Alex Delvecchio, Niklas Lidstrom, Sid Abel, Ted Lindsey, heck even Mr Hockey himself -- ever did

article said Larkin, 22, "became the first player in franchise history to lead the team in goals, assists and penalty minutes in same season since 1927."

Finally, coming back to present -- that was then, this is now....just wanted to write about that 1969 B's-Leafs game
OFFICIAL PICK, B's IN 7, let the coin flip where it might -- BROONZ

as usual crazy playoffs. I thought Tampa would roll through to the Cup and they are out in a complete blowout. Unreal.

The Islanders surprised at how easy as well. Penguins are old looked very uninterested in moving on.

Sharks as usual look beaten. That team never goes anywhere and Vegas is playing great.

Boston, Winnipeg, Nashville series are all crapshoots as expected.

Caps will move on and with Tampa now gone they have a great shot to repeat IMO

amazing Vegas/San Jose game. I went to bed before the OT but what a third period. 4 goals on one major power play!!!! I personally thought it was a good call. It was a cross check and for better or worse Pavelski got badly injured as a result of the illegal hit.

That being said, Vegas fell apart and letting San Jose pile on 4 goals should have not been acceptable. Vegas can complain about the call but their lack of composure during that power play was terrible.

After Sharks go ahead, Vegas pounded back until they tied the game. San Jose played way too passively at that point.

Anyhow i woke up to see that Sharks had won. I am glad because i still hold it against the league for allowing an expansion team like Vegas to walk into the league and be better than 90% of the teams. I just dont understand how that happens.

I thought the five minute major was a bit excessive, refs handed the game to SJ.

Two minute minor, yes.

Five and a game?

No way.

After the first PPG I went to bed, knew what was going to happen.

Just surprised to read it went to OT.

its an interesting dilemma. There was a cross check. Pavelski ended up unconscious and bleeding and obviously did not return to the game. So even though under normal circumstances it did not warrant a major, the Sharks lost one of their best players for the game due to the illegal play. So i can understand the Major Penalty being assessed.

Tough one. And Vegas giving up 4 goals!!!! Inexcusable.
