Still only December and I hate to admit it, but this may be the year that the Blues go deep into the playoffs.

No real reason other than that's my gut feeling. So there.

Now that they have Ryan Miller, the other west teams could have a real case of the Blues
Their previous goalie can't be too happy about Miller's arrival -- they weren't hurting before the trade
Let's go Bruins

Scary to read about what happened to Rich Peverly. Here's an article. There is video on NHL website.

DALLAS -- Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench immediately after he left the ice 5:50 into the first period of a game Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets at American Airlines Center.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff quickly called for a doctor, and a group of medical personnel picked up Peverley and took him away from the bench area and into a hallway leading to the Dallas locker room.

"I was scared," Ruff admitted in a press conference afterward. "My first emotion was we need somebody here real quick. When he dropped, it was red alert, don't worry about the game, don't worry about anything else; just turn around and scream for a doctor and that's all. It was just let's get him the help he needs, and they came and got him the help. For me, it was something I don't want to witness again."

The League released the following statement: "Dallas player Rich Peverley is doing well and is in stable condition. He has been transported to the hospital. As a result of the emotional state of the players on both teams caused by the medical emergency, the game is being postponed. We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank the fans."

A decision about the remainder of the game will be made at a later date by the NHL.

Once in the hallway behind the Dallas bench, medical personnel provided Peverley with oxygen, administered an IV, performed chest compressions and defibrillated him, restoring a rhythm to his heart on the first attempt, according to Dr. Gil Salazar, part of the emergency medicine team at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Salazar, who was part of the team rendering aid to Peverley, called the success on the first attempt "reassuring."

"What I know so far is he slumped on the bench. He was brought back to the hallway for treatment, where we treated him for a cardiac event, successfully treated with standard therapy. As soon as we treated him, he regained consciousness," Salazar said. "He was alert and awake talking to us after the event and quickly transported to the hospital. At this point, I was able to talk to him in the back of the ambulance, and he was able to tell me where he was and he actually wanted to get back in the game."

Peverley was transported to UT Southwestern's St. Paul University Hospital for further evaluation.

When Peverley collapsed, his teammates frantically banged their sticks on the boards to signal for the officials to stop the game, and at 6:23 of the first period, the game was halted.

After about 15 minutes, each team returned to its locker room.

Glad he is ok, that is scary stuff. The local radio guys were saying this morning that he has had some heart murmur issues going on over the last week or so and didn't travel with the team to a recent game because he wasn't feeling well. Hopefully they can get him diagnosed.

very scary glad he seems to be recovering.

amazing finish shaping up for the playoff races. It is crazy in the east. after pittsburgh and boston, all else is still up for grabs. you just have to keep on getting those points.

games are great to watch and better to attend.

Leafs topped one of the big dogs out west last night, now Habs have exact-same thing in mind tmrw. nite against us in east -- yes we've gained a little space on them/TB, but can't-yet call it good -- div. is secondary anyway, home-ice advntge on Pitts. in conf. finals would be crucial/mayb deciding factor -- that's a Stanley cup final-worthy series all its own

the leafs and hans will go home quick as usual. if either face the Rangers (a good chance) they will not advance past round 1. The Bruins will come out of the East without much problem IMO. Not many eastern teams can physically play with Boston and they have a fine goaltender as well.

The West is a crapshoot IMO.

Playoffs are a way off but Round 1 s/b exceptional to watch. There will be few if any walkthroughs

I think the season will go down to last 2 or 3 games for about 5 playoff spots in the east. Race is sooooo tight.

Whatever ya do, don't bogart that joint
I need a toke

...Dustin Tokarski?? Never heard of em -- Tuukka must be hurt
C'mon Bruins, it's no time to try out rookies in this time of year, esp against Habs
Let's go Bruins -- whither Tuukka

edit, they posted it funny on ESPN, it looked like Tokarski for the Bruins -- calm down S

Tuukka is sharp so far (3-0 end of 2nd per.)

The battle for home ice will keep both B's & Pitts. sharp down the stretch & into their [projected] conf. finals

things upside down in west -- after killin' it during the season Anaheim suddenly sitting ducks -- falling fast while SJ & Colo have moved past them & it shouldn't be any different tonite in LA (Colo. over standing-Ducks)
but now it's St.L -- their previous goalie, Karl Lentonen, got hurt, that's how they got Miller
yes, as fensranger alluded to before, a Cup-caliber team will be bounced out in the first round of the west playoffs -- harsh

"the 1st round of the west playoffs, and a B's-Pitts. conf final, will be the two-best series of the 2014 playoff season, Cup finals included"

I think I may be drnkign too much coffee as I had heard there was a new format but thought about it alot today at work and it must be 1 vs 8 and so on. Not sure why but I thought I read they we're mixing things up to have more divisional rival playdowns instead of having Anaheim at Nashville in the first round.

Rangers are far from the talk of the town but would walk over the Leafs in the playoffs. Montreal would be a tight series.

Well, under the baleful stare of the newly-unveiled statue of Fred Shero from across the street on the site of the old Spectrum building -- sure enough, Flyers played like the Broad St. Bullies themselves shutting out Pitts. (thank you Flyiz) -- mayb they can dupilcate it this aftrn in Pitts

that game last nite could set Habs on fire -- they'll throw caution to the winds the rest of the way knowing the hockey gods (ie Jean Beliveau, Toe Blake, Guy Lafeur, Howie Morentz, Rocket Richard, Larry Robinson -- & on...) will be in their corner -- watch out for Habs

we'll see them both down the stretch (Phila twice) -- -- ya, 8 straight -- BROONZ, baby

No hockey gods we're involved in last nights mugging of the Sens. Terrible job calling the game by refs throughout the game.
Yes Sens should have hit the open net but the way the refs we're calling game against them that wouldn't have helped.

If playoffs started today Leafs would be at Rangers. I wouild like to see who gets their facewashed in this series.

LEAFS!!!!
