Ditto -- a classy gesture indeed -- an estimated 2 million ChiHawks fans attended the parade today in Chicago (according to ESPN) -- happy for all of them -- it was a real good series

I imagine they haven't slept much in the last few days.

The Stanley Cup is making the rounds:

Daniel Carcillo took it the Rush concert Friday ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DLKEeddhlE

Patrick Kane took it to see Jimmy Buffet last night .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDT_HcvgHjM

As they are Leafs fans and Toronto natives, that's the closest they'll ever get to the Cup.

Once again Lou L. shows he's the classiest GM in hockey.

What a great thing to do to let your franchise goalie announce the draft of his son.

Bruins have signed goaltender Tuukka Rask to an 8 year contract, $56M contract. It is worth an annual cap hit of $7M. Let's hope his strong play in 2013 wasn't a fluke.

Totally shocked to read this this morning -

NJ Devils Ilya Kovalchuk has retired from the NHL to return home to play in Russia, leaving $77M on the table. Lou said he knew this was coming since right before draft day.

He will make the $77 million in Russia. Early reports are that he will make upwards of $15 million a season.

Lock up Rask with a long term deal. Check.
Lock up Bergeron with a long term deal. Check.
Find a hard-nose player to replace the under-performing Seguin. Check.

Good offseason so far for the Bs!

Signing Bergy means that his wife will be sticking around Boston as well, which is a good thing.

Beat me to it!

I think they were nuts with Seguin. Time will tell I guess.

Bergeron is good but one hit away from career ending.

There was no way Lou was going to give him that kind of contract, and I believe the Leafs paid way too much for him. That's quite a cap hit over the next 7 yrs. What puzzles me is that IMO Lou made a knee jerk reaction to losing Clarkson by turning around and overpaying for Ryane Clowe. Don't get that.

That said, many players that fit this mold (mid level numbers, but loaded with intangibles that just seem to make a team that much better) appear to be commanding and getting big bucks from several teams. Brandon Prust to the Habs last season is a perfect example. Did the Rangers miss him last season? Yup. Do I wish he was still a Ranger? Hell Yeah. At that expense? Hmmmm.....

Devs sign Jagr to a one year contract. To fill the void left by Kovalchuk's retirement. Right. Devils a mess right now. Looks like the Martin Brodeur retirement tour will be a year too late.

Regular season less than a month away! Oct 1st, Leafs vs Habs to get it started.

Nice to see Gregory Campbell back on the ice for captain's practices this week after suffering that nasty broken leg from a Malkin slapshot during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals and finishing the shift on one leg.
