I don't know how much news has gotten out to the rest of you so far this morning, but we got clobbered last night by that front that brought a 2nd day of close to 100 degree temperatures to where I live in Ohio. Late in the afternoon, it turned into a monster thunderstorm with winds peaking at 85 miles per hour.

My neighborhood has quite a few downed trees as well as downed electric lines, and the power is off. 300.000 folks in my area are without power and it is looking like a replay of when the remnants of Hurricane Ike hit us a few years back. It may be 5-7 days before everyone is back on.

Thankfully, my wife and family are all OK.

I am typing this at a public library on the other side of town.

Hoping that everyone in the ABB community got through it OK as well....

Got home from a long exhausting day yesterday eveing and was woken up by 80 mile hour winds. Scared the hell out of me for a few minutes I thought a tornado was coming.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the damage up your way, especially knowing so many people are out of power in this horrible heat. I'm just glad everyone seems to be okay so far.

I was without power for 7 days after one of the '04 hurricanes.
Guess I should be happy it was only in the mid '90's during that week with no air conditioning!
Hope things are better for you brother Andrew.

I'm back at the public library. The one nearest to me now has power again so I am here checking my emails and checking in. I am going through PC withdrawl for sure ...

You should see this place. There are more people here today than I have ever seen. Every library PC is being used. I had to wait 20 minutes for my turn at one. The library staff has extra tables set up for folks to bring in their laptops (there must be a Wi-Fi) and many people are sharing every available electric outlet to recharge their cell phones.

I was able to find ice today but struck out on D batteries. I hit 8 different stores and everyone is out. My fault for not having them stocked or for grabbing some early. We need them for our flashlights and lantern . We do have plenty of candles. And we have plenty of canned food. We also have a propane grill so we I may do some grilling later, if I can find some fresh meat...

There are stores here and there that have power but they are in pockets and my wife found out yesterday, most of them are too busy to answer the phones so finding them is either by just driving around and getting lucky or finding out from friends and neighbors .

Overall, things are OK. An inconvienence to be sure but still bearable.

According to our power company, 90% of us will have our power back in 5-7 days , what ever that means . Sounds like their PR department trying to minamize the severity of the damage .

From what news I've been able to get from the portable radio and newspaper, the Washinton DC area and parts of the East coast got hit pretty hard as well.

Well. Monday morning should be interesting as I still need to make it in to work as they do have power...

Hey Andrew, hope things are getting better for ya.

We lost power as soon as the winds hit the area. Was out for maybe 23 hours. So not bad at all, they were saying 2-3 days before the lights and Ac came back on.

Bummer is watching and hopeing the freezer full of food stays cold. Lost a couple of items in the frig, my fault, couldn't help myself grabbing a beer. LOl

My daughter were sitting on the back porch as the storm rolled through, we have alot of flashlights and lanterns. But like alwsy when the lights go out boy you better be prepared. Dawned on me i did not have many spare batteries, no generator , which are a god send on hot days without AC.

Since we got lucky and power is back on, it brought to the front is be prepared.

Lantern, batteries, water, canned food, camp stove , propane tank etc. It was a scary storm that started out in Iowa. Miss Kitty you stirring up a storm out there. LOL, just kidding.

Hope everyone is safe and power is restored soon. Bluesky's to ya.

I live just north of DC and the immediate area where I live didn't get hit that hard but the further away you get there is tons more damage. My electricity went out just after 10:00 PM friday and the latest report from PEPCO estimates that I "should" have my electricity restored by 11:00 PM Friday.

I've never been so eager to get to work where we have a/c and internet access.

Hey Ya'all !

Power came back on over night last night...!!! The hallway lights we forgot to turn off woke me up around 2 am.

I could not have been happier about it ...

Only three days this time ...after Ike it was five ...

Man. That was a bit of an ordeal with the 95 + temps all week ...

Feels good to be back on my own PC..

Hoping that others here still afflicted are back up and running ASAP...

The power was restored here about eleven hours ago, the downside is that there are about 92,000 PEPCO customers in the DC area and thousands of other people west of here and up and down the east coast, that are still have no power.

Tip of the day from my girl Sandra who knows her stuff - If in the recent power outages, your refrigerator has picked up unacceptable odors, try putting a bowl or two of coffee grounds (unbrewed) and some balled up newspaper in the frig. Leave for a day or so... it saved our frig after a 9 day power outage while we were on vacation. I learned it from the refrigerator repairman who also had to deal with refrigerators left less-than-wholesome by college students.

Thanks Matt...

I did not realize how lucky we were. My wife told me after I returned from work yesterday that all our neighbors across the street from us are still out!

It seems the dividing line was right down the middle of our street !

They were still out when we went to bed last night...
