Next month, I'm going with my mom & brother, and we're taking a vacation to Cozumel for about 5 days or so. My mom booked the trip yesterday online. We're staying at an all inclusive resort called Sabor, or Sabor Cozumel, something like that. Has anyone else stayed at this resort, and if so, what was your experience like? Please let me know, thanks.

If you hate thong and French cut swim suits you will hate the place. Girls in those suits are everywhere. The prices were dirt cheap years ago. BUT do not leave the main areas. By the way the diving is great also. Have fun.

I was in Cozumel about 9-10 years ago and we went all over the island. We rented mopeds and took it to the southern tip. There was a tiki hut bar down there that was like something out of a movie it was so isolated. The island at that time was not super developed and it attracted alot of divers and snorkelers. I had no issues venturing around, but times may have changed.

Here's a link with lots of info and reviews of Sabor Cozumel. Don't let negative reviews totally freak you out. It appears to be rated good/well above average for resorts on Cozumel. Have fun!!

I've been on the Cozumel island 20 years ago and really loved it. Have no experience with that or any other all inclusive resorts because i don't like those places. Only reason ever going to a resort like that would be winning enough cash to afford a trip to a Mule Island Exodus. Don't forget to visit the nearby Tulum on the main land!

When I was there we ate at a place recomended by locals after snorkeling in the water park- it was a roadside shack with a spectacular view called Ernestos Fajitas. Best darn fajitas and cervesas ever! Probably a parking lot for an all inclusive resort now....

My wife and I were in Cozemel about 15 years ago. We loved it! We also rented scooters and went exploring outside the city. We snorkled at a beautiful reef. Hung out at a beautiful beach. Ate a lot of great food. We stayed at a modest but very nice and clean hotel, so I can't give you any info about the resorts there. I am hoping that development has not spoiled its simple but elagant beauty back then.

One music related memory. We were eating at a relatively modest restaurant that had simply wonderful food, and a group of three performers, two singers and a guitarist/singer were working the tables. They asked if they could play a song for my wife and I. Of course I said yes. I remember their harmonies were wonderful.

I guess I ended up tipping a bit more than what was required because they ended up playing more for us than for the other couples there. It was still a bargain though.

Later that night , as we were walking back to our hotel, we met them again out on a corner playing for the people walkng by. When they saw us they recognized us from the restauarant and they all smiled and waved at us . One of the singers yelled out "Amigos !" Magic moment.

If you do go, the trip down to Tulum is more than worth it . I'm very glad we did

And if you do like to dive/snorkle ask to see the underwater airplane. There is an old airplane a few hundred feet out that some locals will tell you crashed there, but I think I remember reading that it it was actually placed there deliberately to film a movie scene years and years ago. I snorkled out and I do remember it was very cool to see first hand.

Oh, just like les_paul_sunburst we rented scooters as well . Had lot's of fun touring the island. Not sure if traffic has increased but back then it was very relaxed. Recommended.

I have never been to Cozumel but if there's a compound (also called a "resort") I personally would not leave it, be careful of the water that you drink including ice unless you want Montezuma's revenge, and if you go to the pyramids or anywhere on the mainland go on a tour with other people and possibly ask about security too.

I have friends who are Mexican and they used to go all over Mexico including to the Yucatan and now they don't go to Mexico anymore since it's dangerous there.

Can't recall the name of the resort we stayed at back in 2000, but the reef is the 2nd largest in the world after the great barrier reef. Went out on a boat to the reef and then went snorkeling. Beautiful! The east side of the island is basically uninhabited and we went on a tour of it with a guide. We all had our own 4-wheelers. It was awesome, on the northern most tip of the island is a small Inca ruin right by the ocean. We arrived there at dusk and you couldn't walk anywhere without stepping on crunchy crabs. Good time!

Was lucky enough to go to Jamaica and Cozumel in '88.....about a month after hurricane Gilbert decimated both islands.
After the 17' storm surge had receded, the beach which was hundreds of yards from the main road, was on the other side of where the road had been!
We walked all over Cozumel, and it was a complete ghost town.
