Now that Gregg is going on wifey # 6 (tied with Elizabeth Taylor, I believe) has your opinion of the man changed ? Fanwise, musically, morally, etc.

I think most folks would be more apt to judge her. He says he's in love so more power to him. On the other hand, if this is the sort of cardiovascular workout he needs to regain some strength...

Just sayin'

My opinion is the same as it has been since the mid 70's....Gregg has a good voice for singing.

Yeah, if he can still get a 24 year old hottie, I say more power to him. And Shannon will be his 7th wife, not his 6th. Although Gregg says, "She's the first".

Not at all.

I respect Gregg as a musician.
But not so much as person who gives a **** about his fans.

And it has nothing to do with who he's been married to or who he's marrying next I could care less.

As near as I can tell from past experience, Gregg has a lot of 'fiances' that he never marries. As I said before, until there's actually a ring on her finger, she's his 'girlfriend.'

Ironically that is the one question Piers Morgan did not ask - to see the ring! My opinion has not changed - he is still the same talented musician and I love his music

A person's personal life can be totally effed up he or she can still excell at what they do for a living. Without the book, I don't think Gregg's personal life would be that much topic of conversation and has nothing to do with being a great singer, player and songwriter.

Bingo!

So much has come out since the book & interviews. Lots of rewrites of history & fans changing opinions or being shocked or disappointed. I've always tried to separate the performer from the person. Everybody puts on their pants one leg at a time, no one better than anyone else, etc. To me, it's all about the music & leave the personal stuff & expectations of people at the door.

The engagement is more amusing than anything, but I remain disgusted by the dishonesty of the autopen matter. He can fool around w/ whoever he wants, but don't screw people who are willing to pay for your signature. HTN is the biggest victim though.

Speaking of dishonesty, Shannon is 23, not 24.

Ah, that makes more sense. I was thinking 24 was getting a little old for him.

I agree. I have no personal opinion of Gregg nor do I care what he does outside of the concert hall/recording studio. I lost my false hope of musicians being decent people a long time ago.

I like Gregg as a musician/performer/tunesmith I have no opinion of him as a person.[I dont know him, and never will] a bass player friend of mine hates his guts, [Gregg stole his girlfriend at grants lounge in 1973 ] Ill bet if you met some of your "musical hero's", they would not be your "hero's" anymore.

I soured on Gregg back in the mid-1970s when he sh*t the bed and slept in with such sustained thoroughness that it bogges the mind. His vocals are awesome and he has written some great songs, but he has never been the main driving force of this band. And there are reasons for it. In the beginning it was Duane. After that it was Dickey. Getting back together for the first time in 1979 - Dickey. And Dangerous Dan Toler was big part of bringing the twin guitar sound back yet he is pathetically ignored by the ABB during all of the recent accolades. (And I still love the Enlightened Rogues abum). And bringing Warren into the ABB after rolling hard with the Pattern Disruptive album in 1989 - Dickey. Not that Dickey can't be a d*ck because I know it. But concerning Gregg, it is almost like there aren't many folks left who were around back in the mid-70s and the years after. Now were staring at 10 years without a new album under the Gregg-Butch regime. There s nothing new with the tone of this book. Zero.

But, with this 24 year old, having an affair with an older man is one thing, and she is a grown-ass woman so go for it. Have at it. But if Gregg makes it legal, he's a fool. When Gregg let them put his girlfriend front row on The View, you know they are going to go to her and get her on TV. And when BaBa Walters tried to clarify how old she was, Shannon smiled when they said 24 like it was so cool to be with a rock star 40 years older. I hope he is careful.

But again, I agree that you do have to seperate the personal side from the artistic side of an artist. And sometimes it is a matter of natural temperament. Jack Nicholas just didn't have it in him to deal with the fans like Arnold Palmer did and does. However, the way you treat fans does fall into the artistic side of things. And the **** s in the rock music side of things have lot to learn from the bluegrass and newgrass side of things. It is a mindset in the latter genre, a way of doing things, and it is how it should be. Warren has this mindset, and Derek does as well. I have had a ton of conversations with sound engineers and guys running the monitors at various shows who have worked with rockers in the past and when they deal with a world-class artist like a Jerry Douglas or Del McCoury or I could name a couple of hundred, and I mean the top cats, they are flippin' amazed at what the experience is like compared to dealing with the rock music side.

Under the "Gregg-Butch" regime, the band released an album within 3 years. Just for clarification sake. Anyway, as long as Gregg is sober and not hurting his family and people close to him, his choice of girlfriends does not affect my opinion of him.

Agreed. Just wish everyone would say the same about Dickey.

I think in time, the personnel of this band will be looked at differently than they have been over the last dozen years.
