So this was kind of the icing on the cake.
I purchased the presale "autographed" copy...to my disappointment. No reason to say more than that.
Then I say, no big deal to that. I'll get out of work early (today) and head up to Ridgewood NJ to do the book signing and even get to meet Gregg and get a picture. What a memory that will be. Well, I get there and they tell me they have sold out of books and I cannot get on line to meet Gregg, etc. I ask can't i just get on line to say hi and be on my way? Their answer "No. Because we are a book store and you need to buy the book." Really??? Well you sold out of the book...which I already purchased presale form another merchant granted...anyway you can imagine my frustration and disappointment.
Then as I walk back to my car, I end up chatting with Gregg's driver (very nice guy) and eventually a nice officer I met much later on outside. I wait out there 2 hours and as I notice the signing is winding down I am still the only fan waiting by the limo. So I'm thinking awesome. I will after all get a moment to say hi to Gregg and get a quick picture. WELL, Gregg comes out. I say "Hey Gregg. How's it going? Could I please get a quick picture with you?" Remind you I am the ONLY single person other than the driver and few officers out there. His response was "Here I am. Take a picture and he hops in the limo.". No picture with him and I simply cannot believe, being the only fan there, he could not take 5 seconds to take a picture with me that would mean more than obviously he will ever know. Very dissapointing. He did look tired but if he just signed for 300 people or whatever it was, he couldnt' take 5 seconds to take a picture and say hi? I could understand if there was a group there or even a few people but i was the ONLY person. I will always be one of the biggest fans an supporters and of course the Allmans are my favorite band and music in the world and that will never change but I'd be lying if I didn't say I am quite disappointed in how things went tonight. Sorry to vent but I am just so surprised....I'll leave it at that.

Sorry to hear that. I have seen many "stars" do similar things over the years and even worse t be honest.

No excuses make it right.

You are better than me as I would have thanked him for nothing and for screwing me with the autopen.

You deserved much better after all that.

Gregg is afraid you will sell his image on E-Bay. No wait, that only applies to Gretsch Guitars that have already been signed by Derek and Susan T........

Real Bummer I agree--I ordered the autographed book anyway...i kind of briefly met him before a show a few years ago but would have been cool to shake his hand

It also did not seem to make sense why we couldnt just pre order the book online or over the phone and then show up for the signing, i did ask them that and they said it had to be in person-why i dont get

just give me a receipt # or something....?????

oh well some of us have to work 9-5++ and you cant make it to everything

ill be happy seeing ABB this summer

Too bad to read that even a book signing can turn out very dissapointing for us fans.
I wonder how many books that DID get signed last night will end up on Ebay / Ioffer together with others signed by autopen or on a book template. Selling for $ 60,00 to $ 120,00. In a few weeks from now there are a few hundred real fans like us left with no real autographs while so called fans make an easy buck.

So sorry to hear of your disappointing experience.
This may not make you feel any better but know this -
The 12pm signing in NY had some rules - The first rule was go easy on man, he's fragile and don't smother him.
He's not a young man anymore. Refrain from showing him any tatoos you may have gotten back in the 60s or 70s in his honor.
The other rules were no book dedications allowed, No one on one photos allowed. And whenever his manager says he has to leave, that's it, he's leaving. All this was explained before his appearance at the NY signing.
If you've followed TV and the news lately his been on Piers Morgan, CBS morning news, PBS, then the NY signing, and then the New Jersey signing and I'm sure I am probably leaving something out. Finally, when the guy feels like he's finished for the day and he can go rest, he meets you in the parking lot. Just saying.
Again, so sorry to hear you had a bad experience but if you look at his schedule, maybe he had just had enough for the day.

Valid points but that said.

One guy - 30 seconds to make a positive experience - no excuse. The choice to put a positive spin or a negative one was Gregg's. All the examples that you gave are paid promotions and this one was for a fan. Speaks volumes IMO.

kinda/sorta off topic

All this crap for the sake of makin an extra buck (with integrity gettin kicked to the curb on multiple fronts) makes one wonder why they keep playing the same region over and over and over again. Something is getting played and it isn't music.

Hate to still disagree but when you get a major organ replaced from your body, and a hernia afterwards, and I'm thinking perhaps since Gregg had no idea whether the person in the parking lot might have been inside already and thought they may have been told no one on one photos, he may have assumed in his own mind that they were trying to find a way to deviate from that, who knows?
You all think what you want, I wouldn't fault him for being exhausted.

He took the time to be rude and that takes the same energy.

It took you much longer to write one of those posts than to take a picture. You are making excuses for him which is your right. But the choice to be decent was his and he chose not to. Again it takes the same amount of energy either way. The only difference is the memory and impression that is left on the fan. Gregg won't remember it either way.

The difference as I mentioned is that on the inside it was about money and the outside was about the fan.

Also I have seen Gregg walk right by people long before he was ever ill. His choice but again it is good business and decent to leave the fan with a positive experience.

Excuses don't make it right.

You have a right to express your view and you make your own valid points.

I don't make excuses for for GA or anyone. He is his own man.
I was not in Ridgewood and I was making assumptions based on what I read here, not excuses.

Furthermore, I think the book store is the real culprit.
How do you have a celebrity book signing and run out of books??
If they still had books, this fan would have gotten to see Gregg and get a signed copy like everyone else.

I also don't put celebrities that high on a pedestal. They are only people and people will fail you.

Right you are and he failed.

As for the books running out, I agree with you but if they buy too many then they will sit there till they are discounted. Gregg should have brought some of the returned autopen books.

You may only be making assumptions but they are about Gregg's possible excuses.

All this is meaningless as he made a choice and the damage is done. Either way, we are all taking more interest than Gregg ever will.

Seen that happen often....kinda rude...oh well...best to enjoy the music and not expect the musician to be more than human and possibly, less than even decent....

Yeah, he's gonna go drop a viagra and have sex with his 24 year old "grandaughter" Afterall, what else could that relationship be about ? In a few years (or sooner), she'll benefit from all of Gregg;s recent activity of questionable integrity. The pieces of the puzzle are coming together, at least in my eyes. Everyone is getting screwd so Gregg can too.

Then don't book such a hectic schedule..damn can't Gregg at least say no to the publisher when this stuff piles up like this or look at the schedule and say..no its to much.

That's your opinion.
I stand by that I make excuses for no man. You can speak for yourself, I won't judge you.

I was stating my opinion based on what I read here and my own experience at the NY signing yesterday.
My feeling was compassionate towards the person who felt slighted. But I won't waste anymore time on this thread defending what you said I said about excuses. That's just ridiculous. See ya.

I am thankful that the one time I did get to meet him, it was just him and little Jaimoe by the pool, and he was very cordial, invited me over, asked me where I was from. He said, "we're playing there!" and I told him I would be there, too. We chatted for a little while, and I apologized for cutting into his "down" time and excused myself. He shook my hand and thanked me for the support. He also signed my ticket for the show. Could not have been more friendly.

I have had a couple of very pleasant encounters with Butch, too. One was particularly funny.

If I see Gregg again and he is not friendly, I will always have that memory. I caught him at the perfect time.
