I noticed it didn't take long for Hagar to chime in and speculate about the in's and out's of the current Van Halen line-up and tour. I'll give him this much, the guy never lets an opportunity go by to piss on the VH brothers and take advantage of free publicity for one of his own projects.

I like Sammy ,but you are right.I just wished he would keep his mouth shut. It just makes him look kinda bad. I am not sure if he is bitter or likes drama or what.

I used to like him, and still like much of the Van Hagar material, but the past few years he's come across as sort an opportunist and a whine a$$ at the same time. I think he's bitter partly because he'll never be as big as he was in Van Halen no matter how good of a guitarist and songwriter he teams up with. Despite all his talent, success, and wealth, he knows he'll never be playing in front of 15-20,000 people a night, every night. Just my theory....

Yeah, but a reporter did call him and ask his opinion...

Historically, bad blood amongst musicians runs pretty deep...

So glad I saw these guys put on a great show in Chicago very early in the tour this year.

would like to know how a band can just postpone a tour without a valid reason such as illness, death or an act of God. I would think that most bands would be liable for flaking out on the bookings and would certainly face legal action. VH must have a team of lawyers and quite the contract to sign. I bet the promoter must clear when he can take a dump with VH legal counsel beforehand and get approval on what TP to use.

I'm sure they are making a ton of money for everyone involved. If they need a rest to recharge their batteries so they can keep going even longer, I'm sure people are happy to oblige.

A million a night minimum for VH probably affords all sorts of things, including as you suggest, a potent legal team. Probably a clause in their contract as well. And given the tour is selling very well and could go on for 2 years, I'd bet everyone involved is seeing the big picture here and is probably agreeable to shuffling some dates around to ensure the cash cow can still be milked over the long haul. Either way, I'm glad to hear it doesn't appear to be a health issue with EVH.

I think it's more that Sammy is pissed of that in 2004 when he did the reunion tour with Van Halen, he got an Eddie Van Halen that's probably 15% the level of what the 2012 EVH is playing at. I think Sammy is bitter that Dave is getting a healthy sober Eddie that is playing more at the level that people expect from him than the shell of Eddie that Sammy got in 2004.

While I do wish he would just say "no comment", I don't blame him for having some bitterness towards the situation, because he did get the really short end of the stick when it comes to the health of the guitarist.

At least they didn't cancel the shows due to lack of ticket sales um... I mean because of "Family Reasons"

I suppose you're right. However, it's not like Hagar didn't know the shape Ed was in well before the tour began in 2004. But I can also see your point about the envy Hagar probably feels at what an astounding recovery EVH has made and just how well he's playing and what a great album "A Different Kind Of Truth" compared with those two crappy tunes they recorded back in 2004. He certainly didn't get the current EVH songwriter or performer.

You are right in many ways and might be how sammy feels. But then again without EVH and VH, we wouldn't even be talking about Sammy Hagar who was a career opener before joining VH. He is much richer anf far more famous then he believed would happen just one day before he joined the band originally.

Plus to be fair to Sammy, the VH boys are not the easiest to get along with. There are also many similarities between Sammy's history with them and Dave's.

Just nothing to be gained by sounding like a jealous old girlfriend whic is how he comes across.

Better PR response would have been when asked about the reunion with Dave, "I hope for the fans sake that it kicks ass and I wish them well.". Keeps more of those many fans on your side and should be an honest sentiment as many of those VH fans are his and he owes his success to them.

The jealous old girlfriend analogy works for me, thumbs up James.

My take is Sammy has issues with his old band playing arenas and doing well and he is doing casinos and theaters. Wish both camps the best !

I'm glad all sounds well within the band and Ed's health.

Will patiently await the next leg.

As for Sammy, try taking the high road for once.

I had gotten scalped for tix for the VH reunion w/Dave a couple years back for their show @ the Izod Arena in NJ, I got 15th Row side stage for my son & I. Well Eddie had some issues then, The show got postponed due to him and it was rescheduled. I blew the rescheduled date as I was on night shift working only realizing that I missed the show hearing talk of it on the radio driving home in the morning, Not happy was the kid.
