Congratulations to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. This is a banner day for them, as well as all the coalition members. But most of all, congratulations to the Iraqi People. I hope that peace and security can come to their country soon and that they take their rightful place among the civilized countries of the world.

Peace Through Strength,

Tom S.

That would be the coolest, Billy. I"m sure the family and friends of soldiers over there are praying for an end to the attacks on their loved ones.

It would be, but that seems a little unlikely.

It is a good day. Saddam is captured alive. The lice-ridden Ba$tard was armed but did not go out in a blaze of glory, or became a martyr.

My condolences go out to....... Ramsey Clark, the protesters, International Answer, aiq, Peachnutt, FRance, Germany, Barbara, Susan Sarandon, the human shields, Fidel Castro, Michael Moore, and all who literally worked to have Saddam NOT removed from power. If these folks would have had their way Saddam would be relaxing in one of his palaces right this second and not in a f*cking JAIL CELL!!!That is the truth. It is not an exaggeration. The mass graves, 300,000 as we speak, would have been filled up even more. It kind of gives you a warm feeling, no?

MY guess is that they will now rally around Fidel.

What really makes me puke is the democratic cadidates today. Howard Dean calls this a "great day"???? THis from the guy that said 8 months ago that "I suppose its good that Saddam fell." Suppose???

Great job to our Intel folks and the 4th Infantry Division.

It was such a good, stupid diatribe Derek HAD to post it twice.

Yes, I know I'm off to Cuba. Because there was such mass support for Saddam the whole time. That's what it was all about.

At least you're just like Bush. Using something that should be a cause of unanimous agrement as an attack against Democrats. Has it really been that painful for you to deal with people who disagred with you about this war for a whole year? Too bad, they're not going anywhere. I hope peace comes to Iraq soon, and this is a good moment for the country. Will this be the difference? I kind of doubt it. They found no communications equipment with him and nothing to indicate he was directing the resistance. So unfortunately, I think there'll be more bombings and ambushes tomorrow. But meanwhile, this is something unambiguously good. Maybe we can compromise- can we all be dickheads and still agree on that?

Yes, we can agree. NO, it is not painful. I used to be a liberal. Voted for Carter and everything.

As far as his directing the insurgency, there is no way that saddam would have used any communication equipment. He knows that we are listening to every frequency that is possible. He was in the right position to do so. He was staying at a farm by the trees on the banks of the Tigris. He had cash and new clothes still wrapped in their packages. He was not on his own. Past that the point is simple; He would still be filling up mass graves right now and for the last 8 months and not removed from power if the appeasers had their way.

And what is wrong about wanting the International Answer protest to be held in Baghdad? I think it is important for the Iraqi's be able to stand and watch democracy in action right in front of them. Why isn't anybody calling for that? Wouldn't that be the right thing to do?

Yeah, I'm having a little fun. I believe in dissent, and it is your right to go and protest on March 20, 2004 as has been called for.

Heh, ANSWER can go to Iraq and I won't lift a finger to stop them. I just don't think it's gonna happen. Maybe if they're real nice, they'll get to take a vacation to Pyong-Yang.

The same thing I just mentioned about Saddam goes for the 'appeasers' charge: if it was wrong to oppose this war, I find it hard to believe it was less wrong than giving Saddam the weapons he used against the people of Iraq for so long.

I agree. We need to be careful who we back. But as I have said many times, the revolution in Iran at that time was the bigger threat to the region and to the Americans that were hostages for 444 days. Sometimes tough calls have to be made.We wanted to contain the Ayatollah.

I can see where that would be the case. It's too bad, to say the least, that the people of Iraq had to suffer because of that for a quarter-century.

Good point, Marley. Derek, no need to gloat (or quack, or squeal, or bray either)..... This isn't your (or the big whig administration's) victory, it clearly belongs to the soldiers who rooted him out. Please allow them to have the recognition and honor they rightly deserve.

Problem is, this capture of Saddam probably isn't going to solve the complex puzzle of peace and prosperity for Iraq any more than if he had been removed via UN policy, eventually.
It's a great by product for the Iraqi people, no doubt, that their torturous leader is now gone for good, but wasn't our original mission for invading Iraq to protect the US from immediate threats of WMD's in the war on terror? Let's not lose sight of the reason we declared war in the first place.

Or the fact that if anybody can tell us where such might be found, it would be this celebrated prisoner who is presently being interrogated right now. I have several guesses as to at least one line of questioning....

I hope they "interview" him in one of his own (secret) police stations. Use some of the same methods.

Too bad he was taken alive.

C-4 suppository would be be my holiday wish for him.

Along with the $750,000 in cash, two AK 47 machine guns and pistol found with Saddam, the U.S. intelligence official confirmed that operatives found a briefcase with Saddam that contained a letter from a Baghdad resistance leader. Contained in the message, the official said, were the minutes from a meeting of a number of resistance leaders who came together in the capital. The official said the names found on this piece of paper will be valuable and could lead to the capture of insurgency leaders around the Sunni Triangle.
