Greeting all, hope you don't mind another!

read through most of this thread and I think it may be the kick start I need to get over the winter doldrums. Last year this time I did a "biggest loser" type thing at work. I tried the south beach diet phase 1 & 2, joined a gym and started running. I also play hockey 2 times a week. From April to Memorial Day I lost 39 lbs !

I haven't had a soda or any fast food since then. and was able to run 4/5 miles every few days. I even ran 3 5Ks last fall. The changes were amazing in how I feel and look.

I have more work to do and gained a few pounds back over the holidays (about a dozen). I finally started getting outside to run but it's been hard to get going again. I barely made it through 3 miles on Tuesday. I want to get back into a healthier diet and exercise program because I can afford to lose another 30. I am 5'10" and was 271 last year (not a pretty site on the ice). I got down to 232. I'm at 240 now since I started up again and looking to get in the 2 teens.

Thanks for the inspiration - I'm hopeful it will get me back on track!

I've been swimming in an outdoor fifty yard pool for the past three weeks. I am now doing one thousand yards, or twenty laps, in about thrity five minutes, all freestyle, and am working on minimizing my rests in between laps. I will be doing my PT test Monday night and am opting to do the 450 yard swim in twelve minutes vice the mile and a half run in 13:23. Also have to do twenty four push ups in less than sixty seconds and thirty eight sit ups in less than sixty seconds. Wish me luck!

Back at it today with heavy arms, shoulders, back, and abs. Topped off with 45 min on the elliptical. Probably need to hod off running for a couple of more days and let the ankle heal up a little more. You guys are inspiring!

Good job guys
Ease back in Doug, ease back in.

Ramping up my workouts quite a bit this week. Added some intensity on the elliptical and bike. Used the stairclimber more often.

7 days till by first 5K.. Getting psyched.
I did the 3.1 miles 3 times this week on the treadmill. Best time is 43 mins, with 25 of it running. Trying to improve on that.

And here is something I came across tonight. Pretty basic, but will help if someone is struggling with this part..

Smart Tip - Eat 4 times a day every 4 hours to maintain your energy level, stabilize blood sugar & optimize health. This should look as follows: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner. Do NOT eat every two hours, snack often or graze throughout the day. Contrary to to popular belief, eating often does NOT "rev metabolism". It actually inhibits fat metabolism & elevates insulin levels

I had to take a couple days off this week and it made me a little upset , which is a good thing IMO. You know you are back on a program when not being able to go makes you feel like your routine is being disrupted.

Not in an obsessive way of course but you all know what I mean I'm sure.

Did 50 hard minutes on the staionary Bike Thursday and again Friday. Burned 400 calories both times according to the meter which is an average based on weight and number of revs/miles.

May not be that much but I like seeing it on the dispaly at the end of the workout so I'll take it...

I stained my chest muscles just a bit Wednesday doing weight training so I opted not to weight train Friday which is why I did the bike thing two days in a row, I usually alternate weight training with aerobic.

I had to take last night off as we went to dinner and I ran short of time earlier in the day ... all the better as I wanted one more rest day anyway. But weight training is on the agenda for today.

Keep up the good work everyone ....

Thanks for this Chuck. I may be eating too much then as I was following the 2 hour rule at work....

The ankle is still alittle sore and swollen this am., so I'll hold off on the running for another couple of days and stick witht he elliptical and bike. Today will be light chest, arms, shoulders, and abs with 45 min. on the eliptical.

Got 4 miles in yesterday. Took it easy since I slept like crap the night before. The best part was just getting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Today will be yoga.

Keep up the good work everyone. Enjoy your health!

You got it Chuck! Keep on keepin' on!

I did my PT Test last night. I swam a 450 in 8:10 (I had 12:00 to pass); twenty four push ups in twenty two seconds; 42 sit ups in forty five seconds. I feel really good about the swim. I intenitonally went light on the push ups and sit ups to make sure I didn't expend too much energy before the swim.

Kids are out of town for a few days so I'm taking advantage of that. I put in 7 miles last night + 50 minutes at the gym (bicep, lats, abs).

I may do an 8K race on Saturday morning....but it's a 7:30am start after the Tedeschi Trucks Band Friday night show...(in my drinking days that wouldn't be an option)

Walking my 4 miles last night, got my headphones in, moving along to a tasty Shakedown Street from '79 and...

...almost got splattered by a car. Went to cross the street and didn't look, car was making a right turn behind my left shoulder. Bumper was about 6 inches from my legs.

I figured it this way, I could either stop listening to music while walking, or, I could not be a total dumba$$ and look before I cross the street.
