Been a little MIA. I found out the hard way that running shoes and ice don't mix. I ended up with a dislocated shoulder. Of course I had just had a great swim workout the day before and was having a great run... oh well...

Fortunately, I'm on the mend and getting out now. I'm back in the pool but taking it easy. Doing a lot of breast stroke because it's easier on the shoulder plus it's good re-hab. The running is okay except for the damn wind. I don't think there's a single leaf left on any of the trees.

Keep chugging along everyone!

Wharfy yer crazy man, river jumpin' in winter and all! Shrinkage!

Missed 12 days due to having some bug that had me tired all the time, no energy for workouts so I didn't. went back yesterday and just did shoulders and was only 85% at best, felt lousy lifting. But the blood through all the body effect was just what I needed. So today felt pretty good after waking, like pretty normal. So it was squat day, I was bummed because my last work out before sick I hit a new squat max and thought, no way could I repeat today, would have to train back up. Well, this makes no sense what happened..... I did a 405 double last time, first ever, and today not only did I do that weight again, I hit a triple and could have done four. So I figure 425 next week and see what gives...... worst can happen is never walk again

almost 56 years old, 198lbs, arthritic, rotten knees, on the way to 500lb lift. btw, I do use knee wraps and belt if wondering

Cold out here in So Cal too. Fortunately, the annoying Santa Ana winds have stopped... for a while...

Heading out for a couple of miles this a.m. No hurry. It's nice being out and about watching it get light.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Had another great workout today. Adding the exrta days of cardio has doubled my cardio work and it only takes @ 45 minutes a day. I can really tell the difference, especially now that my legs are getting used to the increased work. I like it. You guys are awesome.

Go Dug go!

Once you get in a good routine, it definately gets easier to "amp it up"

Up to a 5.5 speed on the dreadmill. I can do short bursts at 6.5 though

Well the pool workouts for the week are done. Not bad a week but I've got some catching up to do.

Unfortunately the goofy winds are back... ever see air go a million miles an hour...

No run tomorrow but a Christmas Eve'er for sure.

Merry Christmas to all the ABB fans and to all those working out and staying in shape. Here's to a Healthy and Hearty 2012! The Road Goes On Forever...

Christmas Eve day workout did new personal squat best. I decided above the 400 mark for first try at higher weights I will use spotters, one each side. So I recruited some young guys. I feel great at 405 now no spot, but I threw a couple tens on also. At this weight every 20 up is a lot since I am pushing my personal envelope beyond what I used to think were my boundaries.

Got 425 for a double, so probably could get a 440 single. I smell 500 by June!

Way to rock Bird! Impressive. And congrats to all who have continued to train as the temps have gotten colder and daylight shorter each day.

I am recovering from my first marathon on Dec 10 in Huntsville, AL. I did 3:09 and was very pleased. Took 9th in the 40-44 age group, and 51st overall out of 1200+. I stuck with the 3:10 pace group then passed our pacer (and the 1 other runner still with him) at mile 23. I put in a lot of training so it was a good first experience for me.

Thinking of doing the Albany GA marathon on March 3, but I'm nursing a sore hamstring right now. I did an an ill-advised 8 miler yesterday in 60 minutes (including 4 straight sub 7 min miles) when I should just be logging slow recovery miles until January. I was getting jealous of my friends who were putting hard workouts, some who had raced recently. I have to remind myself that I'm not used to this level of running and others can bounce back quicker.

My groin soreness has gotten better but not completely healed yet (not back to pull ups). My weight training has trailed off recently but I want to make sure I'm doing a minimum of twice a week during marathon training to maintain the upper body gains from the last few years. Takes more discipline than I have right now!

Well finishing up 2011 with a good swim workout. Getting back in the pool is the highlight of 2011. I sure feel good when I'm done plus I have cool speedo tan!

Congrats hotlantatime! That is a heck of a time for your first marathon! Good job!

Here's to a healthy and happy 2012 for all of us ABB fitness fanatics! Keep up the good work everyone!

Only a few more days until the Resolutioners take over all the fitness centers for 3 weeks. Wipe off the machines when you are done, you freaks!

After starting oh, about 2 years ago now, I've lost 35 pounds with 20 more to go. Started off walking on the treadmill at home, then moved outdoors, then we joined our local community center. I now have a serious elliptical machine addiction.

haha, so true! Every gym I ever went to had the same ritual post Jan 1 for sure. All except the one hole in the wall pro wrestler gym I found in Oregon in the back of some desolete strip mall. Now THAT was a cool gym.

It is pretty amusing. Most of them are gone in 6 to 8 weeks. It's all about making exercise part of our lifestyle and not a number on a scale. Hope everybody has a great 2012 full of personal bests!

Got in a solid 5 miler this morning. Nothing like running in a tank top at 8 a.m. on January 2nd.

5 miles is awesome dudes! Since increasing my workload to include cardio everyday I've had to battle some soreness and stiffness in my legs, and on a couple of day they've been really heavy and tired, but I'm getting through it. I've resigned myself to the fact hat I'm going to have to diet if I really want to lase any weight. I hate the very thought! But I think if I could bite the bullet for about 3-4 months I'd be where I want, and then maintaining my current workload would allow me to maintain that weight pretty easily. Gym was packed last night with new faces.

This getting old thing is a lot harder than I thought! Gives me even more repsect for my elders. Heading out for a road run of 3.5 miles this morning while the wather is still good. I have to limit my road work to once or twice per week or I really feel it in my hops, knees, and ankles. Can't wait until the gym thins out a little again. Keep up the good work everyone.

Got the pool workout in this morning. Not one of my favorite swims but I did finish it so I'm done for the weekend. Ran yesterday too. Monday will be back on the road.

Enjoy your workouts and the weekend everyone!

P.S. Props dadof2! That's 30 miles a week. Keep up the good work. Of course, I hope you're working out your fingers on your Strat too!
