I'm so sore today I wanted to cry, but made it to the gym for a nice workout. Feeling better now. It won't take long to get back into the swing of things. Just keep working.

Got back in the pool today. Ever since I started doing flip turns on the wall, it is more challenging but I'm getting there. I hope to swim a mile non-stop by the end of the year.

Not quite as sore today, heading to the gym after school. It feels so good to be able to get back into the routine! I'm thinking about entering some races this fall, starting with 5ks and working up from there. You guys (especially the rat!) are inspiring. Keep up the good work. Birdman, you rock.

Best day in the pool in a long time. Felt powerful but relaxed. It sure is nice when it's not crowded either.

Tomorrow will be another swim day and then a short run on Friday.

Keep Rockin' everyone!

Put the money up on Friday. Joined the gym at the Parker Meridien hotel in midtown NYC. I work across the street. Need to have gym close and convenient or I'll never get started.

Going for my assessment with a trainer (body fat, cardio, etc) by Tuesday. Im a ballpark 280 right now, so first priority for me is trimming down. Still a big dude and can squat a bunch, but gut outshines all the rest of me at this point.

Hell, can't let Chuck get so far ahead of me! By the way, will be keeping my 2008 Wharfstock shirt at the gym for extra motivation.

Rubba

Bro, thats awesome
Kick some @ss

Going for a workout this morning, so glad to be back into the swing of things. Not much soreness left. I feel so much better when I can work out.

Still working. Didn't lose much strength wise, but am having to slowly rebuild my endurance for running. Beats the hell out of not being able to workout.

Just got back from San Fran on Sunday night. Ran in a Ragnar Relay from San Fran to the Napa Valley. 12 teammates, 186 miles, with each of us doing 3 legs. I ran 8.3, 8.6 and 6.8 miles for the longest on our team. Very hilly segments - one at 4pm Fri, one at 1AM Sat morn, and my final leg at 10AM PDT Saturday. I was ultra sore on my final one but managed to do 6:46, 6:52, 6:50 avg miles for the three segments. All kinds of talent levels in the event so if you ever get a chance to do one, jump on it! Great event.

Here is where I was running on Sat morning when I was tired, sore and stiff. It was worth it:

Ran my best 5K time ever on Sunday 36:46
I was pretty fired up!

But the COOLEST thing happened at the health fair after the race..

BP 138/68 – Need to get my meds refiiled! Not horrible, but considered “pre-hypertention”
The top number WAS in the 150’s before...

Cholesterol – 138 ( WAS in the 280s!!) Wow.

Glucose/Blood sugar – 98! ( WAS 190’s)

Pulse- 76 – Given I has just finished 3 miles, I was happy with this

BMI – 36 ( WAS 62) . Nurse didn’t believe me when I told her how much my current weight was ( 290).

In October I have decided to kick things up a notch

There is a Halloween party/ run thing being organized by the local running club.
We get on a train, and it makes 3 stops. Where you get off the train, you run back.

The stops are..

2.5 miles ( please )
4.7 miles
6.8 miles

Havent decided which stop I am going to get off on, but given the way I felt after the run on Sunday, I am leaning toward the 6.8.
I have never ran more then 5 miles on my own,but I have 5 weeks to get ready for this.
At minimum, we are doing 4.7

Yea, ITS ON

Good stuff hotlantatim! Those are some kick ass times! It sure sounds like a great event too. I haven't done a midnight run since college. Rock On!

WharfRat.....keep it going brother! You are motivating me.

Your train event sounds like a cool one. Even if you choose the middle distance, just think how absurd this would have been a couple of years ago. Who said fitness couldn't be fun? I think the people at these events are having more fun than anyone else all weekend.

Yea, no freaking way would I ever have thought I would be doing this.
We will most likely just let the weather decide what we do.
We are encouraged to wear costumes. Not sure if I will. I was thinking just a Superman shirt and cape, but not sure if the cape would be a PITA when running.

Bird Principle #77

CRAZY GOALS

One should set Crazy Goals. For like a year out. My logic is even if you fail and only get halfway to your Crazy Goal, you still will have made superman progress. Win when you lose, get it?

So a year ago I was squatting 300 and it was heavy. To have said I will in a year squat 400 would have been a preposterious Crazy Goal. But I may just make it, plateaued at 385 for some reason, but I have 2 months before a year so I will do it. But a year ago I would have thought it insane to say something so egotistical, a 100 pound jump. But even if I failed and was at 350, that still is great progress, so Crazy Goals are good.

What are everyones Crazy Goals?

Me, and at agge 55 I say 1 year goals....

Dumbell shoulder press reps 90 pounders (70 now)

Squat 450 (385 now)

So those are Crazy Goals...............

what are yours, make some damn it if none............

Hope everyone is still at it. It has taken me a little bit longer to start regaining my endurance with the runing than I thought, but it's coming around. It just feels so much better to be working out.

Back to the pool today. Spent yesterday at Disneyland so a swim will feel good... as long as I don't sink...

Got in a five mile run last Friday. Picked up the pace a bit and it felt good.

Enjoy your workouts everyone.

Needed to bump this thread back up...and ask a question:

Let's say you're doing two sets of four exercises, 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Does it matter if you do it in this order: 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4

or

Is it better to do it this way: 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4?

Thanks for any insight!

By doing back to back same excercizes, you maximize blood flow to that muscle group. By two in a row. You also (if weights) allow second set to add weight since first set warms up muscles, if you split the sets, you probaly wouldn't ad weight since you would have cooled off that muscle group by not two in a row.
