Next 5K set up for next Sat May 21

I have been running at least 2X a week outside now.
Funny thing has happened though. I find now that I have alot of trouble running on the treadmill as opposed to outside. Struggle big time on that thing now, so I dont bother. Just stick with the elliptical and stairclimer inside, running outside.

I have been lifting 2X a week. Wish I could do more, but my work schedule ( and bad shoulder) really dont seem to allow it. I am slowing building up a bit though. Feels great

Down 184 now... -200 is in my sights

That's just awesome Chuck! I was able to run 2.5 again on the treadmill yesterday, ankle feels good this am, no swelling. I think I can start pushing a little bit to build up the strength again. Feels great to be able to run.

Got my 4.5 in yesterday. Charged up the hill and finished strong. Turned around and paced a friend up the last third. Today I'm treating myself to lunch with some friends.

Since I have tomorrow off, I think I'm going to run Rocky Peak. The first couple of miles are all climb but when you get to the top, it's worth it.

Rock On!

Did a short arms-chest workout yesterday, followed with 2.6 miles on the treadmill before the ankle started to wear out. It's going to take longer than I thought to get this ankle back in shape, but at leat I'm running again. Today is legs, abs, and arms, then the elliptical. Keep working!

Regarding your ankle injury Doug, it just takes time. Just my 2 cents: you might want to lay off the running for a week or two. Maybe ride a stationary bike instead. That'll take some of the pressure off it and help its recovery.

Ankle injuries suck especially as we age. Get well soon!

Great work, Chuck!

Running on a treadmill sucks. I only do it when I have no other option.

Started running again. Registered for a July 30th 5m run, "Run For The Hill Of It" in Chestnut Hill for those folks familiar with Philly. Run through Fairmount Park.

Running outside is far more interesting and challenging than the dreadmill. Keep up the good work, Chuck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I laid off running for about a month, now I'm slowly trying to work it back into shape. Still don't know exactly what I did to hurt it, almost felt like a structural bereakdown more than a ligament type of thing. Did the bike and elliptical while I was letting it heal, and I still do those. I've only been doing fairly short and easy runs on the treadmill to try and work it back into shape. Did heavy chest, back, shoulders, and abs this am, got in 2.7 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill, so it is getting stronger again. I just hate being patient!

Hey Doug. I can really relate as I have been having some issues with my right knee for the last month or so. I have been doing stationary biking at the gym on alternating days w/ weight training since Mid October. But I think that I was trying to do it too fast and too hard as I started getting a burning sensation in my knee during my work out and having it actually come back while sitting for extended periods the day after the work out.

I've had to lay off the biking but am still doing weight training, mostly upper body even though one of the trainers at my gym OKed some leg work that does not put strain on my knee.

But I really feel your frustration. I hate having to lay off after making such progress. I want to be doing more not less.

Sadly, these things come with working out , especially as we are all ...ahem....out of our 20's. Well...unless you are still in your 20's of course...

But having said that...I am still working out 3 times a week doing weight training and am finally at the point where I have started doing some light walking to help ease my knee back into a more normal routine. I am keeping my weight around 170 which is good...

And Chuck, even though I was not able to run it, I walked the 5K Race for the Cure today and was able to manage to finish it without any significant knee pain.

I'm moving forward ....

I see tumbleweed is just as delusional in the offseason as he is during football season
Hang in the bro, let the ankle heal.

Been getting killed with alergies the last few days, but I made a commitment to 5 days a week so..Now I cant effin breathe
Might have to skip cardio tommorrow if I still feel like someone is sitting on my chest
Can still do some lifting though.
My body aint getting off THAT easy!

And great work Andrew!
And thanks

Legs, arms, and abs today. I'm goping to try to step up the running a little on the treadmill and see how it goes. Not going to push too hard yet though. You folks are awesome. And you too, ratboy.

If everyone's week was like mine, it was kind of slow workout wise. I got out Tuesday and Wednesday but nothing real significant. Some stuff came up and I wasn't able to run on Friday. Unless the world doesn't end tonight, I'll be out and about Sunday morning.

I hope the day is as beautiful where you all are as it is here in So Cal. The sun is out and the temps are mild. I'll get some exercise doing some yard work today and then top it off with a "12 ounce curl"... or two!!

Rock The House!

I used to roam the back roads of Sand Diego county in my youthful high school years. Beautfiul! Still have friends there. Worked heavy arms, shoulders, back, and abs today, with 45 on the eliiptical. The ankle is still coming along slowly, can only run about 2.5 miles twice a week. It's not much, but its a start.

Good work Chuck...!

And happy to hear that your ankle is doing better Doug...

I got in 3 weight training sessions this week but still no aerobics at the gym due to my previous knee issues .

But yesterday, I finally got a chance to do what I enjoy doing most which is bicycling. The weather here has been way too rainy or cold on the weekends for biking. And no time to do it after work on the rare sunny days here. So, as of this weekend, I had not been able to get in a single bike ride so far this year. And I was hoping that some light biking might end up being OK on my knees.

So, this weekend turned out to be the first sunny one in weeks but I had a wedding to go to Saturday which took up most of the day and a brunch/birthday party that took up most of the day Sunday.

Got back home Sunday at 6 pm and decided to try to get a ride in while it was still daylight, even though the friendly sun had turned to grey clouds by then.

I got in a 16 miler which went great. Averaged 16 MPH so I got back in at just over 1 hour . But true to form, it started pouring rain at about the 10 mile point.

I got soaked !

But the good news is my knee seemed to handle it OK. I am thinking now that I was using way too much resistance on the indoor bike at the gym and that is what screwed it up.

Maybe if I stick to my actual bicycle and try to take it easy, I can slowly get my knee back in shape while still getting some aeorbic training in...

Keep up the good work everyone ...

Man, I'm so frustrated! Trtied running on the ankle Wednesday and only made it about a quarter of a mile befoire it started feeling weak and giving out. It was really swollen and stiff yesterday. I guess I;m going to have to go through a whole rehab kind of thing. Everything else is good, and my daughtr is going to start light workouts with me next week when school is out. That will be fun. Fitness is a lifestyle, not a number on the scale.

I am quickly learning that .. Scale was "flat" last night for the week, but its all good Ran my first 4 mile run on Tuesday. I hit the 3 mile mark, felt good, so I just kept going.
So THAT is my victory this week, not that stoopid scale

Sorry about that ankle Doug. What is the doc saying about it?
