Keith Richards is not amused.

The legendary Rolling Stones' guitarist has flown into a rock and roll rage against Mick Jagger over the singer's decision to accept a knighthood, the ultimate nod from the British establishment.

"I don't want to step out onstage with someone wearing a coronet and sporting the old ermine," Richards told British music magazine "Uncut" in an expletive-rich interview.

"I told Mick it's a paltry honor ... It's not what the Stones is about, is it?"

The Stones, still rocking after 40 years, made their names with crunching rock classics including "Satisfaction," "Street Fighting Man" and "Brown Sugar."

A 1967 Stones' album was entitled "Their Satanic Majesties Request."

Despite his near spotless rebel credentials, Jagger, 60, is scheduled to become "Sir Mick" at a Buckingham Palace ceremony on December 12.

He will join British musicians Paul McCartney and Elton John who have already been knighted by Queen Elizabeth with a touch of the sword.

Richards' own chances of arising Sir Keith, already thought slim after 59 years of hard living, will have receded even further.

I wondered when this would happen. Jagger is a Nancy Boy sell out.

I agree with Keith too. I doubt the Rolling Stones are about anything, but knighthood seems to be against it anyway. I wish John Lennon was around to tell Sir Paul the same kind of thing.

"Sir Lee" also has a nice ring to it, because it sounds so surly.

Hmmm....is getting a prestigous, yet ultimately symbolic honor from a figurehead really so bad?

Mick is 60 years old. While pissing in public and hiring the Hells Angels was cool back then, it might just seem a bit archaic now. These guys cannot remain charactertures of themselves at 25 forever.

I think David Gilmour and perhaps even Roger Waters should be knighted.

Keef is right--knighthood is inconsistent with the marketing strategy Rolling Stone, Inc has developed, and it undermines the advertising synergy developed with Best Buy.

Keef = Cool

I'm not crazy about Paul being "Sir Paul". At least he doesnt go around calling himself that, I dont think. John prolly wouldnt have liked him doing it either.

How about Sir Wharfy.. Kinda has a ring to it

Knighthood seems to be granted to anybody who goes out there and makes a $hitpot of money and pays a lot of taxes. If there was a guy named Otis who started a Parcel Delivery company that made a lot of money, they'd probably make him Sir Otis of Deliver.

Is it ok to say no to the Queen? And why wasn't Keef included? His past is no more **** ed up than the royal family's.

aekdbmoid, excellent post.

Didn't John actually return his OBE? I actually have to admit the moment where Paul lost me wasn't the knighthood, a lot of my favorite actors and such have been knighted. I gave up on Paul the first time I heard "Freedom."

Clapton might be next, though the English gov't isn't a really big fan of his, since he's been avoiding the incredibly high taxes there (96%!!!!)since his days with Cream-back then he had an extremely complicated system set up with his manager Robert Stigwood, where his money basicaly "lived" in America with one of Robert's companies, and Clapton wrote checks from it for whatever he needed.

Now Clapton just lives abroad and neither he nor his money spend much time in England.
