I am looking to purchase one live CD from the years 2003 to 2008,but as there are so many it is very hard to choose.I really like it when Susan sits in and also when they do songs that they don't normally do or covers are there any from these years that really stand out above the rest or are they all strong?

Hey Darren,

You might want to check out the "West's Best" compilations from each year. Those are the shows we picked as the cream of the crop in each particular year.

You don't necessarily have to buy the whole set if you don't want, but it's a good guide to figuring out what the exceptional shows are from a given year.

I know you are overseas, but you can always call us at (888) 746-4616 if you have questions. It can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm always happy to give advice on this subject.

If you can only get one from the Fox Box, the 9/25/04 show is the best of the three

Fox Box. Definitely Fox Box. You have to get the entire thing, it really covers so much. Jack Pearson rips up "Dreams", Derek rips up "44 Blues", some great "Mountain Jams", a smoking "Layla", Susan on "Don't Think Twice", a wonderful "Blue Sky" even - it really has it all.

If you can't do that, get something from the Beacon 2009 run. I recommend the March 14 or March 23 shows. This year's Wanee shows were pretty solid too, especially the 2nd night (in spite of WSP's lead singer).

Darren, they were phenomenal in 2003 - I had not listened to any allmans since the 90's .. thought it was getting a little long in the tooth .... "accidentally" heard 8/3/03 or one of those August shows and was knocked over! They were back!
I would recommend any of those August 2003 shows, and they're still my favourites of this line-up.

If you want something great from 2003, get the "One Way Out" CD set. It is still available at Hittin The Note for $20!

Get the DVD as well, just to see what it takes to make all that sound. I had my teenagers sit and watch some of it just to gain an appreciation of the amount of musicianship it takes to create music so beautiful and layered. It is out of print, but available on eBay

Hey Darren...
It's tough to narrow it down but here are some of my favorites from those years:

2003 - 10 August, ALLTEL PAVILION AT WALNUT CREEK, RALEIGH, NC
2004 - 24 August, JONES BEACH, WANTAGH, NY
2005 - 20 August, TWEETER CENTER, MANSFIELD, MA
2006 - 20 August, HI FI BUYS AMPHITHEATRE, ATLANTA, GA
2007 - 12 August, VERIZON WIRELESS AMPHITHEATRE, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA
2008 - 27 August, DTE ENERGY MUSIC THEATRE, CLARKSTON, MI

Hope this helps...
Don

I'd actually say skip ONE WAY OUT. It's fine, just nothing off the charts, and the song selection is pretty tame. There are so many better shows available, even from 2003.
