It it very disturbing and alarming that obama and Hillary both come out against our most staunch ally. The lies being perpetrated by the Turkish media serve only the muslim radicals behind this planned tactical move.
This nation should stand by Israel regardless. This show of strength would demonstrate to the rest of the world and to those who would take advantage of our 'weakness', that
we will not cow down, but stand in the face of terrorism regardless of what face it puts on.
What the nation of Israel has endured, and continues to endure daily, is a lesson to the world in how to conduct a nation. Our president and his administration should take note.

Israel has bee condemned by the U.N. for this action; however, North Korea has killed 47 South Korean Sailors and not a work from the World Body. Something wrong with this picture.

Its the UN - that's what's wrong. Any chance to condemn Israel will top their agenda.

Absolutely right on target...The UN has no favor with any country that supports, or is allied with, the United States. It takes every opportunity to diminish the status and power of the USA until it comes to funding. This most recent display of' preferred arrogance' by the UN shows their true intentions. Undermine the United States and regulate our world status as one of 'equal standing' among all other countries.

Good discussion on NPR this morning about the situation with Israel. One middle east "expert" claimed this is the biggest operational "F*ck up" by the Israeli military since the 2006 defeat at the hands of Hezbollah. He basically made the case that Israel has backed itself even further into a corner now that Turkey, its only ally in the neighborhood, is pissed off. Also that this supposed "elite" force that killed these individuals is another example of how the Israeli military can't back up the tough stances the Israeli gov't puts in place. He also tied it in with the tough talk towards Iran and that Israel is kidding itself if it thinks it can take on Iran. He made the claim that without the US, Israel stands little chance against Iran short of using nuclear weapons. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with this, but interesting observations nonetheless.

As far as I know, the U.S. is more or less standing by Israel as much as can reasonably be expected. COnsidering what I see as Obama's previous hostility, I am pleased by this. In my opinion Israel continues to run into these problems BECAUSE they are concerned with what the world thinks. Obviously they could have levelled Gaza when they went in a number of years ago but instead engaged in door to door fighting and lost a lot of people. Obviously the Israeli navy could have sunk that ship and would have had the legitimate right to do so but chose instead to board it. This whole thing was a ridiculous set up in which Israel was placed in a lose lose position. The people on that ship were not "peace workers" but all had ties to HAMAS and other terrorist groups. I don't know what the hell Turkey thinks it's doing but it's involvement in acting directly against U.S. interests in the region in this manner is very worrisome.

The thing fair minded people need to keep in mind is that Gaza is run by a terrorist entity dedicated to destroying Israel and which has killed inumerable Israelis (and quite a few Americans too) through terrorist attacks. The blockade is absolutely necessary to prevent rockets and weapons from being smuggled in. No other country on earth would tolerate such an entity on it's border. Whether Israel handled the particulars of the incident perfectly is not the issue. The trouble was deliberately fomented by the "peace activists" on board the ship and the soldiers acted purely in self-defense. The U.S. probably would have retreated and sunk the ship in a similar circumstance. Meanwhile, the fact of the matter is that the UN has devoted a WOEFULLY disproportionate amount of it's time to persecuting Israel and routinely ignores atrocities committed the world over. The North Korea sinking of a South Korean ship without provocation is just one of them.

What did Israel do that was wrong exactly? Were they wrong to stop the ship at all? Were they wrong to attempt to board it? Were they wrong to be armed with paint guns with orders not to fire with deadly force? Were they wrong to defend themselves when overwhelmed with deadly intent by the people on the ship?

What if the soldiers retreated in the face of the violence and ordered the ship to surrender or be sunk? And then sank the ship. Would that be better?

Three of the folks on the boat we're from Canada. One of the Cdn's Kevin Niesh is a "professional protestor" from where I live in Victoria, BC. I would assume he was there for the people of Gaza not for Hamas or other terrorist groups. Not wading in but the statement above is a bit too general for me.

Edited to add did they find weapons, bombs on the boat???

If he was there for the "people of GAZA" and not to aid Hamas then he was played. It is perfectly obvious that the people on the boat expected and planned for a confrontation with the Israeli forces who boarded. It is on video for all to see. These people were armed with clubs kives and other weapons and would have killed the commandos if they had not used deadly force to protect themselves. I mean this is so clearly true it is not even up for debate. Five other ships were stopped and interdicted without incident.

It does not matter whether weapons were found on the ship. ALL ships are stopped and searched because there is no way to know which ones have weapons. That is why the blockade is in place. Do you know that thousands of rockets have been shot into Israel from Gaza? The fact that Israel was unprepared to deal with this attack does not alter the fact that this was planned for the purpose of harming and embarassing Israel. It goes without saying that if professional protesters like your compatriot want to help Gazans the thing to do would be to cooperate and have the supplies delivered to Gaza via land (which happened incidentally)

I have a friend in the Israeli army and he loves the Allman Brothers Band!!!!!!!!!!!! He and his buddies actually relieve their stress thru great music. I sent him several discs including ABB, DTB, Gregg Allman Band and he spread them around to his friends, and they just love all of it!! They haven't thanked me enough, they are so appreciative. Many of the Israeli soldiers are so hip to great music, how can you turn your back on them? I certainly won't.

The Islamic terrorists would love to see all of this great music get destroyed, they just don't understand it. If we let the Gazans out, they will want to destroy Israel, US and freedom of expression and great music.

That's all fine and dandy, but if we decide who we side with based upon their musical tastes, then we may have been singing a different tune with Adolf Hitler. He was probably a Mozart fan, as were many people of different nationalities and religious denominations. Heck, FDR was probably a Mozart fan. I'd send tunes to Israel as well, but wtf, are you serious???

I'm just saying that Israel is more open to freedom of expression than the Islamic countries.

He's trying to point out rightfully that Israelis are Western liberal people just like us. Hell Mule is playing there in two weeks. No one responded to your above statement because it is apparent you have little or no grasp of the facts fo what is actually going on over there, no offense intended.

I say let the citizens of any country who believe in the cause go over there and fight their own religious war, without their country's backing. Fight the terrorists at their own game...create an army without a country to point a gun, plane or bomb at. Keep the fighting over there. Let them get sick of dying and fighting one another and reach an agreement. We're not going to get terrorists to stop pointing guns at us by pointing guns at them. I know if I felt oppressed and somebody was pointing a gun at me, I would not turn the other cheek.

Any takers?

I don't think we back Israel because of any religion, I think we back them because they are an ally and a very small country surrounded by enemies. I think we would back any ally in the same situation regardless of any religion.

You wanna turn the cheek??? What do you think that will ultimately lead to????? Without our backing Israel would have to use all at their disposal to defend and protect themselves which would probably lead to dropping a few nukes if backed into a corner. I don't think we have any choice than to side with our only real ally in that region.

The Muslim radicals will hate us and attack us regardless of whether we side with Israel or not anyway. It is the free way of life that we share with Israel that the radicals hate and want to destroy. If Israel disappeared tomorrow the USA would just move from number two to number one on their most hated list.

This could not be further from the truth. The whole Israel/Palestinian conflict means nothing to folks like Al Qeada. Quite frankly, the whole conflict means nothing to the rest of the Arab world. If it did, they would have done something already to bring peace to the region. Al Qeada is driven by a twisted ideology. Most of their leaders were educated in the West, and hate the norms, culture and morals of the West. Solving the Palestinian issue would do nothing for the likes of those maniacs.

I respectfully disagree. That is propaganda (imo) perpetrated on the U.S. people to rally support for a war over religious turf that is at odds with the Constitution, imo. Why would any religious denomination be so motivated as to attack us for our 'freedoms'?? Because we're siding with their neighbor, Israel, in a religious war over turf they once possessed. And more power to the Mule for playing Israel. Just goes to show how much Warren likes to play music. I highly doubt he is playing an area within the war zone though.

I don't believe the violence is state-wide in Israel. It is focused in the religious land they seek to possess. If the war was against the Israeli freedoms, would they limit their attacks to one area? Nope.

I don't want to turn the cheek, I want the U.S. to stay out of it. I think we sacrificed enough during WWII, including my grandfather. Let's see some die-hard U.S. citizens in support of a war over religious turf don an assault rifle and fight for what the believe in, without wearing the flag of the U.S. or any other national markings. They can sell their stock in BP, if they haven't already, to fund their operation, if Israel is too poor to do it themselves. Why put innocent citizens lives at risk stateside and spend their taxdollars for that cause, especially if they have no investment in the cause?

Go.

Well, on this topic we disagree. I think the Muslim radicals would hate us every bit as much if Israel didn't exist. They hate our way of life. Iran's leader wants Israel wiped off the map!! He says nothing of religious territory, he wants them gone period. They won't come right out and say it but they hate us and would like us and our free way of life gone too. We are just number two on their hate list. If you think the radical terrorists would stop attacking us if we stopped backing Israel I think you are kidding yourself.

Charlie, I must disagree. Read some of OBL's rants. He states that he intends to impose by force a Khalifat upon the region, and by implication the people. He wants to wind the clock back to a feudal regime, where he is the ruler. He is not interested in what the Palestinian people desire. As you can see, he not only kills Americans, Jews, Spaniards, and whoever else, but also Muslims who don't agree with his twisted ideology.

Seriously Charlie you know nothing about Israel, it's history or what is actually happening there. Why not educate yourself before making blanket statements like the above? Israel is NOT a war zone. Thanks to the diligence and excellence of it's government the people of Israel are safe on a day to day basis. Tel A Viv where Mule is playing is a beautiful modern metropolis. Israel is surrounded by blood thristy enemies. It captured territory in 1967 from which three major wars had been launched against it. The UN resolution stated that Israel would keep the territory it captured until such time as the enemies made peace and recognized defensible borders. Egypt did this and the Sinai was returned. Jordan did it but is not interested in getting back the West Bank. Nor is Egypt interested in ruling Gaza any longer. Gaza is ruled literally by an international terrorist group. The West Bank is ostensibly ruled by the Palestinian Authority which pupports to be moderate but is really also a former terrorist group. Neither could survive without Israeli support. Israel has been trying to disengage from the Palestinians since 1993. If they would accept a two state solution it would be here already. The Palsetinians want to take over all of Israel. There can be no doubt. It is not a religious fight. Israel is a free country, a liberal democracy with a vibrant free press and a booming economy. Israel is a loyal ally of the United States and has always sided with this country in international forums, one of the few reliable votes in the United Nations. Israel has never asked anyone to fight it's battles just some understanding and diplomatic cover as it does what it has to do to survive. The United States has every reason to support Israel in it's effort to survive the ongoing hostility of all those Arabs and other Muslims who seek it's extermination. And Pete is absolutely right. Israel WILL do what it has to to survive.

Israel's intelligence is buy and away the best in the world. Ever hear about an incident on EL-AL? (they checked my brothers packed suitcase because he had been staying at a hotel and therefore many people had access. If we listened to the Masaad (who called up our people prior to 9/11 to tell the US that all kinds of bad people are crossing the border) there would still be 2 towers standing in lower NY. Having lived for generations under the threat of war these are the true world professionals

Not defending the actions of either party in this instance, but really, I think our terrorist problems will all but go away if we stop funding or siding with Israel. Last I checked, there was a separation of church and state in this country, but taking sides in a war over religious turf seems to go against the whole separation of church and state thing..unless I'm interpreting it incorrectly.

Go.

I don't know if the Mossad could have prevented 9/11. All our intelligence forces new something big was coming and it didn't matter. But you are absolutely correct that the Mossad is the best in the world and ALL the free world's intelligence forces work with them. A little known fact is that the counter-terror force of the NYPD has travelled to Israel to learn from the Mossad. I suspect the FBI and CIA have as well.

Huh and the 9/11 commission report indicates something entirely different. Something about a US presence in Saudi Arabia protecting the royal family and their oil assets.

All comes down to the words of GOD considering Israel.
++I will bless those that bless thee
& curse those that curse thee++

A coupla things my Dad told me since i was very young. He said son keep your ears open & mind alert when China starts rustlin. And when the USA turns it's back on Israel, the time is near.
Some of you knucklehead atheist etc can downplay these words all ya want.I could give a damm less.Wouldn't waste the sweat of my left nut to convince ya.Some have proved their friggin ignorance here by hailing Barack Hussein Obama in the past.Yeah well, its been damm near 2 years now.Where the &*^% are the rainbows,Hope the unicorn & peachy change?
Believe what ya want.I'll tell ya one thing though. When the USA turns it back on Israel, the sh*t's gettin ready to hit the fan.And those are words i'll bet my life on.

Build a mosque in NYC beside the old Trade Center. If that ain't proof in the puddin where we're at,i don't know what is.
