I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews that I've seen
on amazon.com & other sites regarding the newest version of these
software products.

I've been pleased with my old Sonic Digital Media Plus v.7 that
I've been running on my old PC ( using XP ).

I've been unable to re-install that software on my new laptop
with Windows 7.

Any recommendations for newer cd/dvd burning sofware ?
or
Any special instructions for installing my older software on my new Windows machine ?

Thanks.
Doug

Nero 10 is coming out. Try the trial version at Nero.com
Works great for me.

The problem with some of these commercial suites is that in order to justify the next version (and hence goad existing users to pay for an upgrade) they have to weigh the program down with all sorts of new features that most don't want, won't use, or will find confusing. Worse, bloated programs cause more compatibility and crash issues.

Best to keep it simple. There's plenty of free or relatively inexpensive stuff out on the web that will work as well or better.

I got Roxio with my new Dell and I find I prefer the user-friendliness of the Windows media software that was packaged with Windows 7, but then again I don't do much other then play music and rip CD's.

I got a new Dell last week and the version of Roxio that came on it SUCKS. I liked the older version of Roxio but it won't run on windoze 7

I missed my old Feurio freeware burning software so much, I actually installed an 8-9 year old CDR drive in my PC just so I could get it to work. Feurio was not compatible with the newer Dell drive in my PC.

Feurio has not been updated since about 2004 but it is the most user friendly program with just the key features that I've ever used. Has easy fade in/fade out features; custom gaps or no gaps can be created; individual volume control can be set before burning; supports overburning by almost 2 minutes.

I use it in conjunction with freeware Audiocity for other editing to create compilation discs.

I have roxio Creator XE 10.1 running on my windows 7 box. I got it with a external DVD burner.

It seems to work fine for me, although most of my CD burning is done on My Mac Mini using Roxio Toast.
Use iDVD for most DVD projects.

I have used creator for the most part to burn some bootable linux distributions on DVD. Worked well.

peace.
John
