Did anyone else get this email?

Note: This is NOT YOUR PASSWORD -- but you are half-way done. You must complete one more
step TO GET YOUR NEW PASSWORD!

REPEAT: YOU CANNOT LOGIN WITH THE CODE IN THIS EMAIL -- BUT YOU CAN USE IT TO GET YOUR
NEW PASSWORD!

To finish getting your new password for Hittin' The Web with The Allman Brothers Band, you must complete all three of the
following steps: Click the link below, enter the confirmation code 7aa69,
and we will send ANOTHER EMAIL WITH YOUR PASSWORD.

Step-by-step, to finish getting your new password for Hittin' The Web with The Allman Brothers Band:

1. Click this link (or copy and paste it into your browser):

http://www.allmanbrothers.com/user.php?bunch of stuff rowland deleted

2. Enter your username and this confirmation code in the form that appears: deleted

3. Click the "Send Password" button and we'll email you a new password.

If you did not request a new password at Hittin' The Web with The Allman Brothers Band for the user account WharfRat,
you can ignore this message, nothing has been changed with your account.

Thanks!!

We use the two-step process so no one else can reset your password and keep you
from logging in. (You must be able to receive email at this email address to
change the password).

Your friends at Hittin' The Web with The Allman Brothers Band

It was in my mail this morning. Seemed untrustworthy, so I didn't do it. Don't know what they are expecting to get from me, but I will delete it.

Guys --
This is the standard email that is sent when you (or someone else) types your username into the "lost my password" form. It is sent to your email of record here at HTW with your account.

By making changing your password a two step process, and requiring you to confirm based on an email sent to your account, no one can change your password unless they have access to your email account, and hopefully that means just you.

If the link to click doesn't go directly to one of our sites, it would be a bogus email. This one looks fine.

But -- don't post the email here because by doing so, you just made public a link that anyone can click and change your password! I edited the post to prevent that!!

If you didn't ask to have your password reset, someone else is entering your username into the "lost my password form." Nothing has been changed here at HTW and you can just delete and ignore it.

BUT DON'T POST IT!!

If you got the email, someone typed your name into the "lost password" box so they could see what your email address is.

I alerted Rowland to this privacy concern several months ago.

He ignored me as usual.

Thanks for alerting me.

And if you don't publish it, there is still a way a sneaky person can get it.

You'll be getting another one soon. I logged out, clicked on lost password, and typed in your screen name, Ron, since it appears you don't have an email address published here. Now I know what your email address is, if I want to spam you. The screen tells you what address the password was sent to. This is something that should be fixed.

Sorry man, when I became aware of it I did what I thought was the right thing to do, which was to bring it to Rowland's attention. The less people that know about it, the less of a concern it is.

Now that this is public information, I'd recommend you go get yourself a bogus email account or something. Kinda sucks though because now you'll have to check another email account to get your announcement emails from Lana.

Actually, you did alert me, and I appreciate it.

Oh.

Sure it was me? I'm not usually that thoughtful.

It came out in a conversation we were having. Sorry the cat is out of the bag, but I assume the trolls knew about it. At least one did, for sure.
