I've been thinking. If ganja was legal, then everyone (not everyone) would be hippies. Then there wouldn't be any wars. Am I being stupid or is this at least somewhat true?

Not True I think alot more than just hippies smoke it now. I think some CEO's, some Doctors, Dentists probably even Law Enforcement folks. Alot more then one would think.
So I guess what I am saying is a broad spectrum of folks do now even more so if it was legal. I personally don't think it's any worse than drinking a six pack.

or maybe not anything with "pot" in it never gets any action here I guess people who may have an occasional one are afraid to even chime in, it's a shame what the government has done on this issue.

Well, if everyone did smoke pot recreationally, and it was legal, it might calm a few folks down enough to avoid some of the acts of violence that plages our society.

if dogs run free...

esquire did an article on suburban pot smokers a couple years ago...

about 1 in 10 adults smoke at least a couple times a year...
20-25% semi-regularly...

1. If marijuana were legal, we wouldn't have to worry about being caught and carted off to jail, or being treated like second-class, criminal citizens.

2. If you could take G. Bush, Osamma, Sadam, and all of the rest of the "World Leaders" and terrorists, lock them in a room with a nice water pipe, a couple ounces of some primo stuff and a stack of good music, I think the world would be a safer, better place within hours.

3. The original hippies are the stock brokers who don't wear underwear.

Eventually, the govt will realize the money that's to be made on the growing and harvesting of hemp...once they realize there's money to be made, it's only a matter of time....

But what if the pot the gov't doles out is really bad quality?
Like the Canadian pot that was grown by the Canadian government and given out to people who would then use it for medicinal purposes?

Then people won't smoke it. You've heard of government cheese?

You're not being stupid. Just really, really wishful. Violent potheads exist (I've unfortunately met some), and not everybody would smoke the stuff even if it was legal. So I guess not everybody would be hippies. Maybe more people would calm down, but I think it's backwards- people don't start smoking pot and then become chill;probably people who are already chill start smoking pot.

Here's a question for everyone.
Do you think pot will become legalized/decriminalized in America within the next 10 years?

I don't see it happening and I don't see it happening even in 50 years.

I'm told it's not even legal in The Netherlands, so it probably doesn't matter if it's legal here in 10 years, 50 years, or ever. It's people's attitudes that shape the law and law enforcement. Medical marijuana is legal in what, about 9 states right now? That's a decent chunk. If a Democrat becomes President and decides to respect the decisions of the states on the issue, then it'll get some firm ground and probably spread from there.

However, California's choice by way of popular vote referendum was overturned by the Supreme Court.

I don't see a problem with herb being legal with restrictions. For example, driving under the influence would be illegal and so would using it in public. But I don't see the problem with it. Cigarettes are probably more effedtive than pot. They screw up your lungs and give you cancer.

That'd be the end of high-pressure sales... and you'd probably see a lot more cars getting traded in for Cheetos.

If pot was legal, we'd switch to a 4 day work week consisting of 2 hour days. There would be a 24 hour Simpsons network, and frisbee would become our national pastime.

There'd probably be a bunch of 24-hour Phish radio stations. Anyone else starting to see some negatives here?
