Fielder ran out a triple? Did he hit in into the parking lot and then he crawled into third?

I was actually amazed at his ability to run. He's surprisingly quick to first base and he had the endurance to to get to 3rd without breaking stride. He did look a little winded though and sort of walked to home plate on the following hit. I haven't seen too much of him except for HR derbies (don't watch much NL), but he is an impressive all-around player.

I remember when Cecil stole a base in a spring training game in about 91 or 92. He got up, dusted himself off and was cracking up.

So tomorrow there is one game that counts on the same day that there are still spring training games. I don't really get that.

Remember when the Reds always opened the season? Just for historical purposes, but I admired the significance of it.

I was going to post the fact that I still can't get over the Reds not opening the season

Yep. I believe they are the oldest professional sports franchise. 1869 or something like that.

Newly-acquired close Andrew Bailey to have thumb surgery
According to this morning's Herald, he first noticed it when he squeezed a bottle of shampoo (am not making it up, that's straight out of this morning's Boston Herald) -- now, in damage/spin control, they're saying it happened in a game, tho they're not sure when -- "there was a collision and he fell."

What a shock -- after all, he had an "intercostal injury" last year, among numerous other typical baseball injuries in his career -- an "intercostal injury"

Jonathan Papelbon may have been full of **** t saying Phil fans are "smarter" than Boston's -- how would he know, he never pitched there -- but he always answered the bell & was seldom injured

SIGH
Get well soon Mr. Bailey, Mr. Beckett & all you other MLBers with that incredibly high pain threshhold & will to play no matter what...

Wow, I'm surprised you know who he is.

I haven't seen him in a long time so I don't know.

I used to run into him from time to time. A few years ago the Cubs flew him out to Arizona so he could attend Spring Training. While well-known here, he is of little financial means. Pretty classsy of the Flubs to do that.

Back in the '80's and early '90's my old college roommate and another good friend lived in Chicago. Once or twice a year I'd drive over and we'd go to Wrigley, always sitting in the bleachers because that's where the party was. We got to know Ronnie from those trips. This was about the same time The Brow was big at Tiger Stadium. Ronnie and The Brow were always my two favorite baseball "characters".

This guy was classic. My fellow baseball fans here have probably never seen a fella like this. He always stood behind home plate (never sat down) at Tiger Stadium and gave the other team's hitters the business when they came up. He would razz them about everything under the sun, but always in a respectful way. Great guy too.
