In addition to Albert (10 years, $250 million), the Angels have also signed C.J. Wilson (five years, $77.5 million).
Glad that Papi will be back in Boston for at least one more season, but sounds like it will be Angels vs. Marlins in the World Series in 2012.

That is freaking insane dollars for that guy.
Waaay overpaid.
On a side note, it looks like the Yanks have AJ on the market

I think a 10-year contract would have been crazy for the Cardinals...... but with the DH in the American League it might work out for them......
Cardinals will move Berkman to first and play Craig more in the outfield..... I think they will be ok.....
They also lost Dotel to the Tigers - he was good for them last year, but he is 37.....
If the Angels also get CJ Wilson I hope they become the 'dream team' like the Eagles did.....

Wish more players were like Kirby Puckett; turned down huge dollars from Boston to stay where he was legend. When contracts escalated he was asked if he felt cheated being underpaid. said something like "I grew up with nothing and am getting paid millions to play a kid's game. Don't think I'll complain about that" |

1 - Mo is not human. One of the few times i prematurely called someone as being on the decline. Repeat; he is not human. 15 years; one pitch; barely a drop-off.
2 - Jeter is. Still think the Yanks made a mistake in giving him such a long contract. But, I guess it's peanuts to them. Has definitely slowed down - his sheer will to win made him a factor late in the year into the playoffs.
3 - Hope they retire the same year. Five years later I plan to meet wharfy at Cooperstown.

Detroit Tigers...lose Victor Martinez for the season to an injury but then make a major move to pick up Prince Fielder on a 9 year contract. How great is that!? Especially once V-Mart is back in the lineup. World Series here we come! ____________________ We'd all like to vote for the best man, but he's never a candidate. |

Only problem is it weakens their defense. Can't have too many of the "same" type of players.
Other sad not today is the report that Josh Hamilton fell off the wagon. Imagine something having such a strong hold over you that you can blow a potential 100 million or so. Wish him nothing but the best in his recovery |

As a die-hard Tiggers fan I am in the minority regarding my thoughts on this.
Who knows, maybe they can outscore everyone. But emr, as you say, how many guys do you need playing the same position. Next year Martinez will be back. ____________________ You got to go through hell before you get to heaven. |

Another die-hard Tigers fan here. Cabrera may not have Inge's defensive skills at 3rd, but I think he'll do fine and the power added to the line-up more than makes up for the loss of Inge who has been worthless at the plate. My wife and I are going to Lakeland in March for a couple weeks of spring training. I can't wait to see how the new line-up looks. I have spring fever real bad. ____________________ We'd all like to vote for the best man, but he's never a candidate. |

What they may need is a shortstop who has enough range to cover for Cabrera's shortcomings. Not sure if Peralta is up to the challenge but I hope so. As long a Delmon Young is not playing left field I think people will be surprised at how the defense turns out ____________________

It will be interesting to see what kind of condition Cabrera is in this March, both physically and mentally. The word is that he's enthused about playing 3rd again. If he has his head straight and focuses on conditioning he'll be fine. I expect Don Kelly will have a lot of opportunities to contribute as well. ____________________ We'd all like to vote for the best man, but he's never a candidate. |

Miguel Cabrera working hard at third, has dropped 20 pounds
PUBLISHED 3 days and 4 hours ago
LAST UPDATED 2 days and 19 hours ago
Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is serious about making the transition from first base to third base to accommodate new first baseman Prince Fielder this season.
The move has been greeted with skepticism by many who believe Cabrera will be a defensive liability at the hot corner, but teammate and offseason workout partner Alex Avila says Cabrera is determined to make it work and has whipped himself into shape.
Miguel Cabrera is working hard to lose weight and prepare for playing third base for the Tigers. "Since Prince Fielder signed, he's thrown himself into being a third baseman. It's all he's thinking about,” Avila told The Detroit News.
Avila added that Cabrera has lost about 20 pounds and plans to drop about 15 more.
"You know, you can make up your mind that you're going to be able to do something," Avila said, "but in this situation, Miguel has thrown himself into doing everything he can to do the best job he can."
Cabrera was the Florida Marlins’ starting third baseman in 2006 and 2007 but was moved across the diamond to first base early in 2008, his first season with the Tigers.
Cabrera, 28, led the AL in batting average (.344) and doubles (48) last season and also hit 30 homers with 105 RBIs. It each of his eight full major league seasons, he has hit at least 25 homers and driven in 100-plus runs.
