Well its finally going to happen.

The "Yankee Stadium" boycott is over.
9/22 against the Rays.

This should be interesting.

Sure hope that jackass AJ Burnett isnt pitching, or you guys might see me on the evening news

We discussed that

If Girardi has any b*lls, he will be out of the rotation long before that..

My 2004 heroes Derek Lowe & Bronson Arroyo have fallen on hard times -- team stats are in this morning's paper & at the bottom of the pitching stats for Atl. & Cincy are...

Paul Konerko has to be considered for MVP -- he's carried the ChiSox on his back -- Bautista is still off the charts too though

Ellsbury & Papi both back by the weekend -- then we need Youk back ASAP -- he, Pedroia & Ells Are the ballclub -- Bedard was missing all those guys last night, down the stretch w/everyone healthy, maybe he'll pick it up...

Too bad people won't vote in a pitcher for MVP.

He deserves the Cy, no doubt about that -- that's sort of the pitchers MVP -- but you're right, rarely are pitchers both Cy Young and MVP winners -- if Detroit got into the WS though Verlander would probably be considered

[Edited on 8/23/2011 by Stephen] [/quotPitchers usually only win the MVP when there isn't a strong everyday candidate. that just isn't the case this year.

I don't think pitchers ever usually win the MVP anymore. Off the top of my head, I think the last one to do it was Willie Hernandez of the Tigers in 1984.

Didn't mean that in those years they usually win; meant that if there is a strong candidate there is no chance of them winning

If Pedro Martinez couldn't win MVP in '99, then I doubt any pitcher ever will. Although I agree that Verlander certainly deserves serious consideration.

Nice win for the Red Sox last night...hopefully it will jump start Gonzalez (3 for 4 with 2 HRs and a walk) back to first half form. Nice to have Jacoby back last night, and Papi comes back tonight. Lackey is making a bid for the 3rd spot in the playoff rotation going 7-1 with a 4.10 ERA in his last nine starts. Beckett gets the start tonight in his home state, would be nice to get back-to-back wins in Arlington.

Arod hurt again....hahahahaha. Although the yanks have done just fine without him.

Watched the Texas/Boston game until it was 6-0 then switched to the Flubs. That one actually turned into a game. At least that game meant something to the Braves.

Trade him to the Tiggers. We'll give you Brandon Inge.

I have to disagree, Lee. The last thing we need is A-Rod in the Tigers club house. But we can go ahead and give them Inge if you want.

NY is always dangerous & the two ancient foes will be taking swings at each other the rest of the way as far as in & out of 1st place -- then we will show them the door come playoff time
...taking 1st place & not the WC is crucial in the AL East...
go Sox

Sawx landing latest blow, W2, NYY L2 & a 1-game lead
the Halos have heated up, making their weekend series in Texas veeddy interesting -- Arizona has overtaken SF in the NL West, it definitely could be the same thing this weekend in the AL West
these races should be fun down the stretch -- it's Philly, Sox & NY, Atl. & Mil., & the rest --
yes they're the 3 richest franchises so they have that advantage blah blah -- but it's not their fault, they're among the three oldest franchises in MLB* & have fans everywhere -- that's a big reason why more $ rolls in -- last night on the radio, you could hear people chanting Here we go Red Sox here we go (they're in Tex.) ...echoing that here, Go Sox

* ie, in one city the longest, going back to Connie Mack days etc

Sad news indeed.

quote:
BALTIMORE (AP)—Former Cy Young award winner Mike Flanagan died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head, the Maryland medical examiner ruled Thursday.

A police investigation revealed that the 59-year-old pitcher was upset about financial issues. He left no note.

Flanagan’s body was found Wednesday afternoon about 250 feet behind his home. An investigation showed he was home alone when he took his life.

Great series for the Twins against last-place Baltimore -- outscored 24-4, at home yet -- they deserve it, they're out of shape & don't care -- an uninjured Liriano off to the DL, Mauer saying he's unable to play because of "a stiff neck" & "general soreness" -- it's disgusting -- I can't believe they're still selling out their stadium...

Rest in peace Mr. Flanagan -- from Manchester NH -- a great hurler -- what a shame

I was at two of the Sox-Rangers games this week. My goodness was it hot! The first piitch temp last night was 106.......the Rangers look to be wilting. Can't get anyone out, giving up home runs like they were candy, can't hit, especially with runners in scoring position. Big series with the Angels this weekend. Better snap out of it! The Sox looked really good.
